In the present communications system, communications terminals are connected via at least one hub unit and an exchange to a packet-based communications network. A timeslot-oriented data format, which is formed from a periodic sequence of channel-specific information segments, is provided for data transmission between the exchange and the communications terminals. In this case, information segments which are intended for transmission of signaling information, and information segments which are intended for transmission of user data information are transmitted in separate data packets which are intended for data transmission via the packet-oriented communications network.

Method of transmitting data via a packet-oriented communications network

A method for data transmission via a packet-oriented communications network, wherein, communications terminal devices are connected to the packet-oriented communications network via at least one transfer unit and a switching system. To transmit data between the switching system and the communications terminal devices, a time-slot-oriented data format is provided, which is formed from a periodic sequence of channel-specific information segments. For the transmission of data via the communications network, a user data area of a data packet used to transmit data via the communications network is subdivided into at least one first subpacket and into a second subpacket, data of a channel-specific information segment being transmitted in each case in the first subpackets.

Method for data transmission via a packet-oriented communications network

Communication terminals are connected to a communication network via at least one hub having an unambiguous address in the communication network. Data transmission between the switching system and the communication terminals is provided using a time-slot-oriented data format formed from a periodic sequence of channel-oriented information segments. The address of the hub is transmitted from the hub to the switching system in an agreed information segment.

In a method for transmission of digital signals present in the form of time division multiplex channels via an ATM transmission device, a plurality of time division multiplex channels are cyclically combined in a call frame with cyclically transmitted frame cycles. The call frame contains at least one useful information channel and at least one control information channel. The digital signals present in the form of time division multiplex channels are converted into ATM cell useful information. These ATM cells are transmitted in virtual ATM channels and then again converted into time division multiplex channels which are combined in a call frame with frame cycles to be transmitted cyclically. If empty useful information channels are to be transmitted, an information item regarding empty useful information channels is inserted into the control information channel data and the useful information channels are not transmitted via ATM. At the receiving point, the information item regarding empty useful information channels is detected and empty useful information channels are inserted.

Method for the transmission of signals in time division multiplex

The allocation of the switching-oriented resources of a communication system (KS) operating in the asynchronous transfer mode is controlled for connections wherein cells (Z) communicated by a communication terminal equipment (KE) connected to the communication system (KS) are to be switched without cell losses. Logon information and scope of resources information (ai, ri) communicated within the framework of the call signaling are thereby entered in call-associated fashion into an immanent routing table (LT) of the communication system. Given reception of a first cell (Z) to be communicated free of losses, this and the further cells (Z) are switched with the assistance of the logged on switching-oriented resources (VR) in so far as no resources availability information (rvi) dependent on the traffic load of the communication system (KS) is entered into the routing table (LT). Given a successful switching, resources use information (rvi) is inserted into the routing table (LT), as a result whereof the switching-oriented resources (VR) are exclusively allocated to the call for the switching of the cells (Z) to be communicated free of cell losses.
