A vehicle (10) intended for operation on level ground is equipped with a chassis (22) and a wheel carrier (50) on which a wheel (12) is supported. In order to operate the vehicle (10) on an incline, a pivoting arrangement (44) is inserted between the wheel carrier (50) and the chassis (22). The pivoting arrangement comprises a mount (52), a pivot arm (54) mounted therein and an actuating arrangement (56) to move the pivot arm (54). The attachment points on the chassis (22) or on a support (46) spaced at a distance thereto and on the wheel carrier (50) are configured in such a way that the wheel carrier (50) can be directly attached to the chassis (22) or to the pivoting arrangement (44).

The operator enclosure for a self-propelled combine harvester is mounted on the combine body by a plurality of resilient mountings. The bottom of the enclosure is open so that when mounted on the combine, it encloses a floor space. This floor space is covered by a noise and vibration insulating material which extends to meet and partially support the walls of the enclosure. The floor covering and insulating element absorbs noise emanating directly from the combine body as well as contributing to the vibration isolating support of the enclosure itself. A forward pair of resilient mountings are arranged so that, pivoting on them, the enclosure can be tilted forward for improved access to the combine control area for adjustment and repair.

A combine conveyor arrangement for transferring clean grain from a cleaning shoe to a grain tank above the shoe comprises two drivably connected screw conveyor legs whose axes lie in a common vertical plane. A unitary housing at their junction provides bearing support for the respective screw conveyors, an enclosure for a pair of bevel gears transmitting power between the two, and a transfer passage for receiving the discharged material from the first leg and conducting it to the second leg. The first leg is substantially horizontal and the second is inclined upwardly and inwardly so that the included angle between the two conveyor legs is substantially less than ninety-degrees, and the transfer passage is offset inwardly and upwardly from the intersection of the conveyor axes.

In an axial flow rotary separator, a rotor and a cylindrical housing are provided with material control elements so that, as is conventional, when the rotor is rotated, crop material in the annular space between rotor and housing is propelled downstream in a generally helical path. The lower portion of the downstream end of the wall of the cylindrical housing is notched or cut back to facilitate discharge of straw from the housing in a generally downward and rearward direction. The relief or notching of the lower portion of the cylindrical housing is defined by an 'exit' edge extending helically upstream from the downstream extremity or edge of the cylindrical portion of the housing wall, from a point somewhat below the axis of the rotor and extending (circumferentially) around the lower half of the housing and up to approximately the level of the rotor axis on the other side of the housing, and by a horizontal 'outlet' edge extending from the downstream extremity of the cylindrical wall portion upstream to meet the upstream end of the helical edge. The 'notch' so formed is triangular shaped in its flat development. The transverse opening defined by the downstream end of the cylindrical housing may be left open or may be partially closed by a transverse bulkhead extending over an upper portion of the opening so as to limit the axially rearward or downstream movement of the discharged material. To facilitate the discharge and flow of material, a crop material cutter is optionally provided close to the junction between the horizontal outlet and helical exit edges of the discharge opening or notch in the housing wall.

Discharge arrangement for an axial flow rotary separator

In an axial flow rotary separator for a combine harvester, a series of parallel guide vanes are mounted inside the upper portion of the separator housing. The guide vanes are each helically disposed and parallel to each other and they cooperate with the separator rotor so that as the rotor is rotated crop material which has been fed to an upstream end of the separator is propelled downstream as a mat in the annular space between rotor and housing, the guide vanes engaging the mat of material and deflecting it downstream as it is propelled circumferentially by the rotor so that any given portion of the mat is propelled downstream in an approximately helical path. The guide vanes are characterized in that they have a first fixed or leading portion which first engages the crop material and a second trailing portion which is adjustable with respect to the first and with respect to the separator housing so that the effectiveness of the guide vane as a whole may be selectively varied with regard to its helically propelling or deflecting effect. Several embodiments are disclosed including a guide vane fixedly pivoted at its leading end and with its trailing end radially adjustable inwards and outwards; a version in which a trailing portion of the guide vane is adjustably pivotable about an approximately radially extending pivot axis; a version in which the length of the trailing portion is adjustable through a telescoping arrangement and another in which a rotatable or displaceable element effectively provides three interchangeable housing wall portions, each wall portion carrying a guide vane trailing portion of a different pitch.
