A method is provided for determination of an operating temperature in a thermally highly loaded device. Multiple individual passive measurement elements, having a measurable physical parameter depending on a constant temperature set during heat treatment, are provided. The parameter is set differently for each of the different measurement elements which are combined to form an array. In a first measurement, values of the physical parameter for the array are determined before the array is subjected to the operating temperature. The array is subjected to the operating temperature in the device and in a second measurement, values are determined for all the measurement elements in the array. First and second measurement values of the physical parameter for each of the measurement elements are compared and the temperature of the heat treatment of that measurement element whose value of the physical parameter has changed the least is taken as the measured temperature.

It is disclosed a method of measuring the thickness and/or the depletion of Al and Cr of a &#x3b3;/&#x3b3;' MCrAlY-coating after the use in a high temperature environment, the &#x3b3;/&#x3b3; MCrAlY-coating exhibiting a non-equilibrium &#x3b3;/&#x3b3;&#x2032;-microstructure at a temperature lower than the temperature during operation. Before the coating conductivity by means of a multifrequency eddy current system is measured a heat treatment is applied to transform the non-equilibrium &#x3b3;/&#x3b3;&#x2032;-microstructure to a equilibrium microstructure having a &#x3b1;-Cr phase. Subsequently the Al and/or Cr depletion of the coating from the coating conductivity and permeability is determined.

It is disclosed a method of determining the exposure temperature of Al and Cr of a &#x3b3;/&#x3b3;' MCrAlY-coating after the use in a high temperature environment, the &#x3b3;/&#x3b3;&#x2032; MCrAlY-coating exhibiting a non-equilibrium &#x3b3;/&#x3b3;&#x2032;-microstructure at a temperature lower than the temperature during operation and the depletion of chromium from the &#x3b3;/&#x3b3;&#x2032;-MCrAlY-coating still allows the &#x3b1;-Cr phase to form. The coating conductivity and permeability by means of a multifrequency eddy current system is measured at different locations of the component and from the measured conductivity and permeability the exposure temperature of said different locations of the components is determined.

Non-destructive testing method of determining the service metal temperature of a component

It is disclosed a method of detecting and quantifying subsurface defects () in an article () made of high strength non magnetisable materials after the use in a high temperature environment. A crack () or gap on a surface () of the article () is brazed and after the brazing operation the crack () or any remaining braze defect or subsurface crack () is detected and quantified by means of a multifrequency eddy current system.
