An overhead cam motorcycle engine includes a cylinder head, a cam cover coupled to the cylinder head, a sealing gasket, and a substantially rigid insert. The cylinder head includes an aperture that is substantially axially aligned with an engine camshaft axis. The resilient gasket includes a sealing jacket that defines an opening. The gasket is positioned between the cylinder head and the cam cover such that the sealing jacket occupies the aperture. The insert is positioned in the opening in the sealing jacket to seal the cylinder head and cam cover interface.

A thermostat housing assembly for a motorcycle engine includes a body portion defining a cavity and an inlet port communicating with the cavity. The inlet port is configured to be directly connected to a water jacket outlet. The thermostat housing assembly further includes a return port communicating with the cavity and configured to be coupled to a return line. A thermally-responsive valve in the cavity selectively prevents and allows communication between the cavity and the return port. Preferably, the thermostat housing assembly further includes a second inlet port communicating with the cavity and configured to be directly connected to a second water jacket outlet. Further preferably, the first and second inlet ports are substantially parallel to each other and the first inlet port is longer than the second inlet port. Each inlet port includes a connector for connecting the inlet port to a water jacket outlet.

An coolant pump for an internal-combustion engine including a housing, a cover sealingly coupled to the housing, an impeller assembly located between the housing and the cover, the impeller assembly defining a longitudinal axis and being rotatable about the longitudinal axis; and a flange positioned between the housing and the cover adjacent the impeller assembly such that the flange and the cover define a first cavity, the flange and the housing define a second cavity, and the flange includes an opening fluidly connecting the first and second cavities, the flange being contoured to at least partially surround the impeller assembly. Preferably, the pump also includes a nozzle contoured to direct a coolant from the first cavity toward the second cavity and onto the impeller assembly, and wherein the nozzle has an intake side communicating with the first cavity and a discharge side communicating with the second cavity.

Fluid-moving apparatus and method for cooling an internal-combustion engine

A motorcycle engine capable of being supported within a frame. The engine includes a cylinder head having an upper peripheral edge and a valve cover having an assembled width and a lower peripheral edge substantially corresponding in shape to the upper peripheral edge of the cylinder head. The valve cover includes first and second portions coupled together along an engagement surface that does not extend across the entire assembled width of the valve cover. The second portion is separable from the first portion along the engagement surface to facilitate removal of the first portion from the engine. In one aspect of the invention, the first and second portions are separate castings.

An oil-pump drive for an internal-combustion engine, in particular for a motorcycle. The drive includes an oil pump, in the housing of which is arranged at least one rotor member for supplying a volumetric flow of oil, wherein the rotor is driven via the crankshaft of the internal-combustion engine. It is proposed that the rotor of the oil pump is connected to a shaft driven directly by the crankshaft. In this way, the oil pump is directly driven in a simple manner.

In the case of the pipe connection of two overlapping pipes a flexible ring is arranged between the interior pipe and the exterior pipe and, before the bracing, is axially displaceable on the interior pipe. The flexible ring and the exterior pipe have a spherical interacting outer and inner contour which ensures the angular mobility. The fixing of the pipe connection after the adjustment takes place by two tensioning bows which are fixedly mounted on the exterior pipe. This permits a particularly easy handling during the adjustment and the fixing of the pipe connection.

Multi-cylinder internal combustion engine

A valve actuating mechanism is proposed for an internal combustion engine in which at least one intake valve E is actuatable optionally by a low-speed cam 2 or a high-speed cam. The first rocker lever 5 operates in conjunction with the low-speed cam 2 and the valve E, while the second rocker lever 8,9 operates in conjunction with the high-speed cam 7 and can be connected to the first rocker lever by means of a coupling bolt 12 mounted in a bore 10 of the first rocker lever 5 which is aligned with a bore 11 in the second rocker lever 8, 9 when both rocker levers are riding on the base circles of their cams. The coupling bolt 12 is moved into the coupling position against the force of a spring 17. The spring 17 rests on one side on the end of a pipe 20 connected to the coupling bolt 12 and on the other side on an insert 18 introduced into the bore 10, the pipe 20 extending through this insert 18. In order to achieve brief switching periods, the pipe 20 is provided in the vicinity of the reverse side 31 of the coupling bolt 12 with a cross hole 28 through which quick pressure increase and decrease on the reverse side 30 of the coupling bolt 12 is effected.
