A test device and method for testing and/or calibrating an analysis device for analyzing light appearances created by an RF surgical instrument. The test device has a test object configured for creation of a plasma test light appearance, the light of which can be received by a light receiving unit.

Test device

An electrosurgical device for recognizing tissue by means of spectral analysis of the light generated at an electrode. An acoustic or optical indicator device displays the tissue type permanently or when detecting certain tissue. Indicators, in particular optical indicators, are arranged in the application field of view, so as to support the user in response to making an incision.

Operating a surgical instrument with tissue recognition

An instrument head including an exit opening (), a first feed line () for feeding a first fluid, a second feed line () for feeding a second fluid, and a reservoir () for storing the second fluid fed via the second feed line () is disclosed. The reservoir () is in fluid communication with the first feed line () and/or is adapted to be brought in fluid communication with the first feed line () via at least a valve () arranged in the instrument head, to deliver the second fluid stored in the reservoir () via the exit opening ().

Methods for injecting fluids

A preparation instrument comprising an HF-instrument with an electrode that is partially insulated by means of an insulating body, which is combined with a fluid applicator having a channel arranged in the insulating body for the application of a fluid to or into tissue. In some embodiments of the preparation instrument, the electrode is a spatula electrode which is inserted in the insulating body that does not cover sections of the surface of the electrode so that these sections may be in contact with the tissue. The insulating body preferably forms the channel wall that delimits the channel. The insulating body and the electrode may be flexible in order to adapt the form of the insulating body and the electrode, together, to the surgical task.

HF-surgical preparation instrument with fluid channel

A method for the selective elevation and separation of tissues comprised of multiple layers and a surgical instrument for performing the method. The method may be performed without the requirement of a solid mechanical device insertion or transection through the mucosal layer. In particular, the method and surgical instrument may be used for the selected separation and/or resection of selected portions of benign or malignant tissues (e.g. defining tissue planes, polyp elevation and removal, submucosal tissue tunnelling, endoscopic mucosa resection, etc).

Method for selectively elevating and separating tissue layers and surgical instrument for performing the method

A surgical working instrument () is disclosed that is inserted in a working channel () of an endoscope () and is slidably located therein. A device () for determination of the relative position of the working instrument () to the endoscope () is configured to determine in an optical manner that the distal end () of the working instrument () has reached a distal end () of the working channel (). The position determination device () comprises a light conductor () that is attached to the working instrument () and configured to receive light surrounding the working instrument () in the vicinity of its distal end (), wherein based on the light received by the light conductor () the relative position of the light conductor () and thus the working instrument () in relation to the endoscope () can be determined.

Surgical instrument having a position detection device

An electrosurgical instrument configured for connection to a supply apparatus for operation. The instrument has an end opening at the distal end and supports at least one electrode in the area of the end opening to which an alternating voltage potential can be applied. Directly adjoining the end opening, a liner of the electrosurgical instrument limits a flow chamber inside the liner. With distance to the end opening a flushing channel opens out into the flow chamber via an exit opening and a suction channel opens out into the flow chamber via an inlet opening. A flushing fluid can be introduced in the flow chamber via the flushing channel and can be extracted by suction via the suction channel.

Electrosurgical instrument, electrosurgical device and method for operating an electrosurgical device

The device comprises an endoscope shaft through which extends a working channel ending at an outlet side of the shaft. A guiding element extends through the working channel, said guiding element being preferably guided in longitudinal direction in and along the working channel. The device is set up in such a manner that the distal end section of an instrument extending in longitudinal direction next to the shaft can be moved alongside the shaft beyond the outlet side in order to move the working section of the instrument away from the outlet side so as to lengthen the distal end section of the device. The instrument is coupled to the guiding element in order to guide the working section of the instrument in a transverse direction away from the outlet side in a region opposite the outlet side in order to work in the region with the instrument.

Device with a working channel guiding element

The inventive device () can be used for tissue coagulation and/or tissue ablation. It comprises at least one electrode () that serves for generating a spark or plasma jet and is connectable to an electric source () for this purpose. The probe () is assigned to a measuring device () that emits and/or receives light in the proximity of the electrode () and determines the distance of the probe () from the tissue () and/or the tissue temperature and/or the composition of the influenced tissue (). Preferably the measuring device () is operated synchronized with pulses or pauses of the pulse-pause-modulated radio frequency voltage (U) of the electrode () in order to simultaneously carry out the desired measurements during the operation of the instrument () and to feedback control the operation of the instrument () based on the gained measurement results.

Device for tissue coagulation

A cryosurgical instrument includes a feed line for conveying fluid into an expansion chamber. The feed line has a capillary line section that terminates in the expansion chamber and forms an aperture for the fluid to undergo the Joule-Thomson effect. The flow cross-section of the feed line decreases in at least one transition section of the feed line in the form of a funnel. Following each transition section there preferably follows a step section, in which latter section the flow cross-section is preferably largely constant. The last step section is preferably formed by the capillary line section. Due to the acceleration of the fluid in the transition sections and the abating of pressure fluctuations in the capillary tube section and, optionally in the additional step sections, the expansion range in the expansion chamber is increased, without impeding the backflow of the expanded gas out of the expansion chamber.

Cryosurgical instrument

The instrument according to the invention for electrosurgically impacting biological tissue comprises an electrode () as well as a light guide (), which is connected to a light inlet window (), which is formed by means of a fluid body (). The light guide is connected to a light analysis device (), so as to absorb the light, which is generated at the electrode () in response to the HF surgery and so as to supply it to the light analysis device (). The light inlet window () is arranged at the point of origin of the light, namely immediately at the electrode, that is, at the spark, which is generated. An adulteration of the absorbed light by means of smoke or particle deposition on the light inlet window () can virtually be avoided.

Electrosurgical instrument comprising a light guide

A cryosurgical instrument, in particular a biopsy instrument for transbronchial biopsy, having an elongated instrument base body with a distal and proximal end, in relation to the operational position, a cooled section close to the distal end and which removes tissue, said section being designed such that surrounding biological material adheres thereto, by means of cryoadhesion, when said instrument is in use in the cooled state, and a security section which is provided at a distance from the tissue removal section and which comprises means for preventing or reducing the adhesion of biological material.

A tissue fusion instrument having electrodes that are only connected in a punctiform manner to their electrode carrier such that they are electrically conducting and thus, heat-conducting. As a result, heat transfer from the electrode to the respective electrode carrier is restricted. This, on one hand, benefits the desired surgical outcome and, on the other hand, prevents parasitic heating of the surgical instrument and concomitant damage to surrounding tissue.

Tissue fusion instrument, in particular a tissue fusion forceps

The instrument comprises a jaw arrangement with two jaws that have, on their side facing the counter-electrode arrangement, rounded or flat electrode surfaces. The counter-electrode arrangement comprises at least one counter-electrode surface that may be rounded or flat. One of the electrode surfaces has a band edge preferably bordered by an insulator on one side, said band edge being adjacent to the adjacent electrode surface of the jaw arrangement. The counter-electrode surface has a band edge adjacent to the insulator facing the band edge of the one electrode surface. The band edges of the electrode surfaces acting as the coagulation surfaces are close enough such that they form cutting edges that develop a cutting effect with low voltages that are otherwise suitable only for coagulation. Accordingly, it is possible to provide fusion instruments that are extremely delicate, display lower thermal inertia and an excellent fusion and cutting effect.

Coagulation and dissection instrument with pin electrodes

The inventive method of manufacturing a cryoprobe uses an assembly pin () for receiving a sleeve () that is to form a part of the head () of the cryoprobe and comprises three abutment surfaces () that are axially offset relative to each other, said abutment surfaces ensuring, following the attachment of the sleeve () and the nozzle () to the tube end (), the correct axial positioning of the nozzle () and the sleeve (), in particular, relative to the distal end surface () of the tube end (). Consequently, the position of the nozzle () in the expansion chamber () that formed after the sleeve () was closed and thus the function of the cryoprobe are ensured.
