A harvesting reel is rotatably mounted on left and right saddles. The saddles are slidably positioned on fore/aft extending arms. A fore/aft position sensor is located between one of the fore/aft extending arms and the respective saddle. The fore/aft extending arm is provided with a slot that extends along the arm at an angle thereto. A sensing finger engages the slot and is coupled to a potentiometer by a sensing arm. As the fore/aft position of the reel changes, the relative position of the sensing finger changes creating a changing electrical output from the potentiometer. The resulting potentiometer voltage represents a fore/aft position signal that is directed to a controller.

A ground contact height sensor for a harvesting header comprises a transverse rotatable shaft, a first rigid arm, a second rigid arm and a connecting member. The rotatable shaft is rotatively mounted to the frame of the header. The first rigid arm is rigidly mounted to the rotatable shaft. The first arm extends downwardly and rearwardly from the rotatable shaft in a curved manner. The second rigid arm is pivotally coupled to the first rigid arm by a hinge joint. The second rigid arm extends upwardly and rearwardly from the second end of the first rigid arm. The first and second rigid arms defining a relatively large radius. The connecting member secures the rearmost end of the second rigid arm to the frame of the header. To maintain the radius of the two pivotally connected rigid arms the hinge joint joining the two rigid arms is provided with a torsion spring.

The invention concerns a drive arrangement of a crop conveying and/or processing mechanism of a harvesting machine with an internal combustion engine (,) that is arranged to drive the crop conveying and/or processing mechanism through power transmission elements in a first operating mode in a first direction at a first speed, and a reversible motor (,) that is arranged to drive the crop conveying and/or processing mechanism in a second operating mode at a second speed in a second direction that differs from the first direction. The drive arrangement is also able to be driven in one or both of third and fourth operating modes. In the third operating mode the reversible motor (,) drives the crop conveying and/or processing mechanism in the first direction at a third speed, that is lower than the first speed and in the fourth operating mode the drive of the crop conveying and/or processing mechanism is separated from the internal combustion engine (,) and the reversible motor (,) operates as a brake for the crop conveying and/or processing mechanism.

Drive arrangement for the crop conveying and/or processing mechanism of a harvesting machine

A chain or belt tensioner is provided in a header for a harvester having a pair of rollers, each supported on separate pivot arms and engagable with the slack and taut strands of the chain or belt. The pivot arms are mounted about a common pivot and are spring biased into engagement with the chain or belt by a common spring. When the drive direction is reversed, the normally slack side of the chain becomes taut and assumes a straight-line position between the sprockets or sheaves. The pivot arms will rotate about the pivot and the pivot arm on the strand that has now become slack will rotate to tension the slack strand. The biasing spring coupled to the two pivot arms biases the rollers against the two strands of the chain and provides a fixed tensioning force on the chain that does not require adjustment.
