The present invention relates to a method for making an anvil roll, the method comprising the steps of: providing a cylindrically-shaped body consisting of a first material, wherein the first material is selected from the group consisting of: an iron alloy, an aluminum alloy, and a titanium alloy, and wherein the body comprises an outer circumferential surface; adding one or more metallic materials in the form of powder; and fusing, by applying power from a laser source, the one or more metallic materials to the outer circumferential surface of the body to form a plurality of protrusions having a conical or frustro-conical shape comprising tapering sides, from a broader base at the outer circumferential surface tapering outwardly towards a narrower tip or having a cylindrical shape.

The mold insert has at least one filament cavity and a stack of at least a first and second insert plates, wherein the first plate has a front face that closely abuts a front face of the second insert plate. An apparatus for applying a first fluid to an advancing substrate comprising a nozzle body made, at least in part, using an additive manufacturing method. A method of manufacturing a unitary toothbrush head having a base and filaments extending therefrom. The method includes steps of injecting molten plastic material into a mold cavity having a pre-base cavity and a filament cavity extending therefrom; compressing the molten plastic material, once it is essentially filling the pre-base cavity, by impressing a punching tool into the molten plastic material from the rear side of the pre-base cavity being opposite to a side from which the filament cavity extends; and filling the filament cavity with the molten plastic material under the continuous impression of the punching tool.

The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for imparting a first line of weakness and a second line of weakness into one or more layers of an advancing substrate, such as a belt assembly. The first line of weakness is coincident with the second line of weakness. The advancing substrate may be a belt assembly including an outer layer, an inner layer, and one or more elastic strands disposed between the outer layer and the inner layer. A first surface of the belt assembly may be acted on by a first laser beam that operatively engages a first scan head and a second surface of the belt assembly may be acted on by a second laser beam that operatively engages a second scan head. A trim removal member may be used to separate the first and second lines of weakness forming a trim portion and a separation edge.

A method for providing bristles for automated production of brushes, in particular toothbrushes or parts thereof may comprise providing a plurality of bristles in a storage container, applying oil to at least a part of the plurality of bristles in the storage container, separating a bristle tuft from the storage and transporting the bristle tuft in a tube using an airflow. The plurality of bristles tufts can be transferred to a providing unit, in which the bristles tufts are arranged in a pre-defined tuft pattern and may be over-molded by injection molding in order to form at least a brush head. A device suitable to perform the method comprises at least an immersion unit to apply oil to bristles and an airflow-using transportation unit.

A nozzle assembly may be used to apply fluid to an advancing substrate. The nozzle assembly includes a nozzle body made from a first material. The nozzle body may include one or more abrasion resistant materials fused to the nozzle body. The nozzle body may be configured to deposit a fluid, using a shim plate, onto the advancing substrate. As the substrate advances past the nozzle assembly, the substrate and/or the fluid may contact the nozzle assembly resulting in wear. The one or more abrasion resistant materials, which is different than the first material of the nozzle body, may be fused to a portion of the nozzle body to reduce the wear and prolong the life of the nozzle body. Thus, the portion of the nozzle body having the abrasion resistant material is restored rather than having to replace the entire nozzle body.

The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for assembling absorbent articles, and more particularly, methods and apparatuses for imparting a line of weakness into one or more layers of an advancing substrate. The advancing substrate may be a belt assembly including an outer layer, an inner layer, and one or more elastic strands disposed between the outer layer and the inner layer. The belt assembly may be rotated on a process member about a longitudinal axis of rotation. The process member may advance the belt assembly to a first laser source. The first laser source imparts a line of weakness into the belt assembly. A trim removal member may be used to separate the line of weakness forming a trim portion and a separation edge.

A transportation device for transferring bristles from one location to another location comprises a tube system and a baffle plate comprising conically shaped vents. The baffle plate is arranged at one end of the tube system in order to stop the movement of the bristles transported inside the tube system using airflow. Such a transportation system may be part of a device for automated production of brushes, in particular toothbrushes. A plurality of bristles can be transferred by such transportation system in order to be arranged in a pre-defined bristle pattern corresponding to a bristle field of a brush, in particular a tooth brush.
