A tube-forming apparatus in a bag-forming, filling, and sealing machine has a longitudinal seam heat-sealing device for connecting edge regions of the packing material belt that are placed against each other inside surface to inside surface. In order to achieve a sufficient sealing temperature in a short time, a heating body that is embodied in a lamella-like fashion protrudes like a tongue between the edge regions. In order to aid the heating body, similar heating bodies rest against the outside of the edge regions. The heating bodies have a U-shaped electric resistance wire with elongated legs which is embedded in a longitudinally folded casing made of a thin, temperature-proof woven cloth.

A pressure relief valve for a packaging container has a flexible valve member that is fastened with parallel edge zones thereby covering a hole in the package wall. In order to protect the packaging container equipped with the pressure relief valve against theft, an alarm triggering device is integrated into the pressure relief valve. The alarm triggering device has the shape of a strip that is glued to the valve membrane on one of its fastening edge zones.

A packaging container comprises a foil laminate comprising at least two layers in which openings are formed. The two layers are joined together over their entire surface area, except for in a striplike channel. A valve strip is disposed in the channel and in valvelike fashion covers the openings of the inner layer. If there is an overpressure in the packaging container resultant gas can escape into the open through the openings and the valve strip acts like an overpressure valve. As a result of the specialized disposition and embodiment of the valve strip and of the openings, a reliable escape of gas produced is achieved.

A method of producing overpressure valves for packaging containers supplied in a roll, transported in this form to a packaging machine, separated at the machine and attached to packaging containers by means of an adhesive coated surface. For this purpose the overpressure valves have a layer of emulsion bonding on their underside. To prevent individual layers of the roll from sticking together, the overpressure valves have an adhesive-repelling layer on their top side. The overpressure valves are connected to one another in one piece and in a row, and are separated consecutively in a packaging machine.

An overpressure valve for a packaging container, which prevents air from the atmosphere from getting into the package and, in the case of gas-emitting material being packaged, reduces a resultant overpressure by venting gas. The overpressure includes a valve membrane stuck to a wall of the container on top of through holes. The membrane is secured to the wall with peripheral adhesive strips, leaving an adhesive-free zone above the through holes; the adhesive-free zone forms a valve member, and the congruent part of the wall forms a valve seat. The adhesive strips have a wedge shape, so that the transitional regions of the adhesive-free zone toward the adhesive strips, rest on the wall, and the raised peripheral regions form spacers for adjacent packages to permit operation of the overpressure valve while stacked one on the other.

For sealing off overpressure valves of packaging containers, a small quantity of liquid sealant is introduced into a valve. To check whether such valve has been equipped with sealant, the sealant is heated, prior to introduction into the valve, to a temperature that is elevated compared with ambient temperature. After that the valve is checked for a temperature difference with a heat sensor, which causes valves not equipped with sealant to be rejected. The sealant is heated immediately prior to its application to a valve, in a nozzle delivering it.

Method and apparatus for sealing a packaging container overpressure valve

A bag evacuating and closing apparatus having two opposing jaws which face ends that move toward one another. The jaws encompass a top closure of a bag package to be sealed. The jaws have hollow spaces open toward one another which are surrounded by frames with sealing jaws disposed in the hollow spaces; the hollow spaces form a chamber that receives the top closure of the bag package. A sealing rib protrudes from one face end of the two frames and is interrupted in a middle region of the frame part at which the closure fold protrudes between the jaws. In this region, suction openings are disposed in the frame parts of both jaws; these suction openings pull two walls of the top closure tightly against the frame parts. After the top closure of the bag package has been tightly encompassed, air is extracted from the bag package by a vacuum, and subsequently, the top closure of the package is tightly sealed by the sealing jaws which form a sealing seam to close the upper end of the bag.

A method for producing a packaging container having a pressure relief valve that is tightly secured to the inside of the packaging container and closes off an opening in the wall of the packaging container. To seal off the pressure relief valve, a fluid sealant is introduced into the valve, after the valve has been secured to the packaging container. To this end, an opening is punched by a hollow needle into the wall of the packaging container in the area coinciding with the pressure relief valve, and through the hollow needle a droplet of sealant is deposited in the peripheral zone of a membrane of the pressure relief valve. By capillary action, the sealant enters into the gap between a carrier part and the membrane of the valve and becomes distributed over this area.

A packaging container having a pressure relief valve which is suitable for packaging products that are vulnerable to oxygen and products that give off gases. The packaging container has at least one rigid and flat wall, which is surrounded by an offstanding peripheral flange and on the outside surface of which the pressure relief valve is secured. The pressure relief valve has a flexible membrane, which is secured on the wall in opposed peripheral zones by means of two adhesive strips. With its middle zone, the membrane defines a path and covers an opening in the wall. The opening is located in an indentation by means of which a pressure-action surface of the membrane is provided. A film of oil may be added in the middle zone to assist in preventing entrance of air into the container.
