A method of continuously loading fibers in a fiber suspension with calcium carbonate. The fibers include a fiber wall surrounding a lumen. A reactant solid in the form of calcium oxide and/or calcium hydroxide is mixed into the fiber suspension with a resultant initial process pH of between 11 and 12. The fiber suspension is transported at a consistency of between approximately 15 and 30% into an inner chamber of a closed reactor. A reactant gas is injected into the reactor, whereby the reactor is pressurized to a pressure between 5 and 150 psi. A temperature of the fiber suspension within the reactor is controlled at a range between &#x2212;10&#xb0; C. and 80&#xb0; C. The fibers within the fiber suspension are loaded with calcium carbonate as a result of a chemical reaction between the reactant solid and the reactant gas in the reactor over a predetermined reaction time. A specific type of calcium carbonate crystals are grown on the fiber walls of the fibers, depending upon the initial process pH, temperature, pressure and reaction time.

A device treats a fiber stock suspension with at least one additive, the fiber stock suspension being used for production of at least one of paper and cardboard. The fiber stock suspension includes a suspension medium and a fiber material. The fiber material has fiber surfaces, the fiber surfaces being moistened by the suspension medium. The device includes a fluffer having an inlet for receiving at least one of the fiber stock suspension and the at least one additive. The fluffer is coupled to the inlet, the fluffer being configured for separating the fiber material and enlarging a specific surface of the fiber surfaces.

A stock preparation system includes a stock preparation apparatus and a sensor coupled with the stock preparation apparatus. The sensor is configured for sensing a physical parameter associated with the stock preparation apparatus, and includes a wireless transmitter for transmitting an air-borne wireless output signal corresponding to the sensed physical parameter. A rotor and stator assembly is positioned within the housing radially outside of the distribution member. A toothed ring is interposed between the distribution rotor and the rotor and stator assembly. The toothed ring and the rotor and stator assembly define a gas ring therebetween. A reactant gas supply is fluidly coupled with the gas ring. A pulper for pulping a fiber suspension includes a vessel, an extraction plate assembly and a rotor. The extraction plate assembly is disposed within the vessel and includes a metal plate with a plurality of holes extending therethrough. A plurality of metal inserts are respectively disposed within the holes and project from the plate. Each insert is removably attached to the plate. A rotor is disposed within the vessel adjacent to the extraction plate assembly. The inserts are removably attached to the plate by brazing the inserts within the holes, or slightly shrinking the inserts using liquid nitrogen and placing the inserts in the holes.

A screening apparatus is used for screening acceptable and rejectable material from a pressurized fiber suspension. The screening apparatus includes a housing, a rotor, a screen basket and at least one sensor. The screen basket is positioned generally concentrically around the rotor, and includes at least one screen element. Each sensor is positioned in association with the screen basket. Each sensor is configured for sensing a wear parameter relating to a wear state of the screen element.

Screening apparatus for fiber suspension

A screening apparatus for screening acceptable and rejectable material from a pressurized fiber suspension includes a housing and a rotor within the housing. The rotor has a top end. A screen basket is positioned generally concentrically around the rotor. A rotor blade ring is connected to the top end of the rotor and rotates with the rotor. A stationary defibering ring is positioned adjacent to the rotor blade ring.

A pulper in a stock preparation system includes a housing with a fiber inlet, at least one water inlet, at least one outlet and an inner chamber. A plurality of rotatable augers extend into the inner chamber.

During the chemical process of loading with calcium carbonate fibers contained in a pulp suspension, a medium containing calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide is added to the pulp suspension. This treated pulp suspension is charged in at least one reactor with pure carbon dioxide (or a medium containing carbon dioxide), which, during the progression of the reaction, converts at least a significant portion of the starting materials (calcium oxide and/or calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide) into the reaction products, calcium carbonate and water. This reaction is accomplished by properly controlling the pulp suspension's pH.

A fiber loading apparatus continuously loads fibers in a fiber suspension with a chemical compound. A pulper has an inner chamber, a shear imparting device within the inner chamber, an inlet and an outlet. The pulper inlet receives a fiber suspension at a consistency of between 20 and 30%. The shear imparting device, which may be configured as a rotor, imparts high shear forces to the fiber suspension. A fluffer includes an inner chamber, an inlet and an outlet. The fluffer inlet is connected with the pulper outlet. A reactor includes an inner chamber, an inlet and an outlet. The reactor inlet is connected with the fluffer outlet. A gas supply is connected with the fluffer inner chamber and/or reactor inner chamber. The gas supply supplies and pressurizes the fluffer inner chamber and/or reactor inner chamber with a gas, such as carbon dioxide or ozone, acting as a reactant for the chemical compound to be loaded into fibers of the fiber suspension. A mixing device includes an inner chamber, an inlet, an outlet and a shear imparting device. The mixing device inlet is connected with a reactor outlet for receiving the loaded fiber suspension. The shear imparting device, such as a rotor, is disposed within the inner chamber and imparts lower shear forces to the fiber suspension.
