A dust collection box for a dust extractor includes first and second air inlet chambers, an air inlet aperture through which air is drawn into the first air inlet chamber, an air outlet aperture through which air is dawn out of the second air outlet chamber, an air intermediate chamber formed in the housing, and a filter mounted within the housing. The filter includes a first part through which air passes from the air inlet chamber to the air outlet chamber, and a second part through which air passes from the air inlet chamber to the air intermediate chamber. An ambient air aperture is formed in the wall of the housing. A valve disposed proximate the ambient air aperture is switchable to connect the air intermediate chamber to only one of the air outlet chamber or the ambient air aperture.

Dust collection box

A dust extractor is provided including a main housing, a telescopic tubular extension arm comprising a first forward section slidable into or out of a second rear section over a stroke length between a first inner position and a second outer position, the second rear section being mounted onto the main housing, a shroud mounted on one end of the first forward section remote from the second rear section, a biasing force arranged to urge the first forward section to slide out of the second rear section towards the second outer position, and a dust collection box mounted on the main housing. The stroke length of the telescopic extension arm is greater than 150 mm.

A hammer drill has a transmission housingis formed from two clamshell halves of durable plastics or cast metal material. The transmission housingis mounted on first and second damping springsandat its rearward end. The transmission housingis also mounted on parallel rails (not shown) disposed within the tool housingsuch that the transmission housingcan slide a small distance relative to the tool housing. The forward end of the transmission housinghas a generally part conical portion, which abuts a corresponding part conical portionformed on the tool housing. The interface defined by conical portionsanddefines a stop against which the transmission housingrests against the tool housingin the inoperative condition of the hammer drill. When the hammer drillis being used, a gap opens up between the conical surfacesandwhich helps to damp axial and lateral vibrations that would otherwise be transmitted from the tool bit (not shown) to the user. However, the gap is sufficiently small that the hammer drilland the transmission housingcan still be adequately controlled by the user, and the part conical shape of the interface also assists in aligning the transmission housingwith the tool housingin order to give a user greater control over the direction of the tool bit.

Drive mechanism for power tool

A hollow piston drive mechanism for a hammer drill comprises a crank pinhaving a cylindrical link memberrigidly connected to a part-spherical bearing. The part-spherical bearingis slidably and rotatably disposed in a part-spherical recessformed in the crank plate, as a result of which the bearingcan be easily mounted to the recess. The cylindrical link memberis slidably disposed in a cylindrical bearingformed in the end of the hollow piston. The crank pinis therefore able to rock back and forth in the spherical recessas well as slide up and down in the cylindrical bearing. A cylindrical collar memberis mounted on the cylindrical link memberof the crank pinand is moveable between a lower position in which it abuts the upper surface of the part-spherical bearingand an upper position in which it abuts and the underside of the cylindrical bearingso that the crank pinis prevented from moving out of engagement with the part-spherical recessformed in crank plate. The cylindrical collar membercan be mounted to the crank pinafter construction of the crank plateand crank pinassembly.

Drive mechanism for a power tool

A power tool cooling system comprises a cooling fan disposed on a motor in a position between the upper field coil and the lower commutator. A transmission housing encapsulates the transmission mechanism. During operation, the fan is driven by the motor and draws air axially through the motor and expels the air radially outwardly through holes in the outer housing of the motor. This causes air to be drawn in through the air vents formed on the top of a tool housing, in the side of the housing and between the housing and a battery pack. The cool air flows outside of the transmission housing, but inside the tool housing such that air does not pass through the transmission mechanism. A plurality of motor openings are also formed in the outer housing of the motor to enable cool air to pass into the motor to cool the motor.

Power tool cooling

A transmission housing for a hammer drill comprises two clamshell halves and that mate to define a first transmission housing chamber and a second transmission housing chamber disposed on either side of a ball bearing race. The first and second transmission housing chambers are interconnected by channels. The rear end of a hollow piston, a cylindrical bearing, a crank pin and a crank plate are disposed in the first transmission housing chamber, and a spindle is disposed in the second transmission housing chamber. Overflow channels and allow movement of air between the first and second transmission housing chambers to reduce compression of air iduring reciprocation of the hollow piston.

An electrically powered tool having a dust collection unit powered by a motor, which unit can be releasably fitted to the tool includes a plug arrangement and a cooperating socket arrangement, one of which is formed on the tool and the other of which is formed on the unit. A first mechanical fixing arrangement is provided comprising a first projection and a first cooperating recess, one of which is formed on the tool and the other of which is formed on the unit. A second mechanical fixing arrangement is provided and comprises a manually actuable releasable latch arrangement and a second cooperating recess, one of which is formed on the tool and the other of which is formed on the unit. The first and second mechanical fixing arrangements cooperate to secure the dust collection unit to the tool in such a way that the plug and socket arrangements form an electrical connection.

Hand held drilling and/or hammering tool with dust collection unit

A dust collection unit suitable for use with a hand held drilling and/or hammering tool, comprising a shroud () which is adapted to extend around a tool or bit () of such a hammering and/or drilling tool so as to collect dust in an airflow passing through the shroud which dust is generated by such a tool or bit. A tube like extension sleeve () extends forwardly from the shroud, with respect to such a tool or bit, which extension sleeve () is tapered at its forward end so as to have a forward rim which fits into a corner of a surface to be worked. A slideable sleeve () is slideably mounted on the extension sleeve so as to move between a retracted position in which the tapered forward rim of the extension sleeve () is engageable with a corner surface to be worked and an extended position in which a forward rim of the slideable sleeve () is engageable with a surface to be worked.

Dust collection unit

A dust extraction shroud for a drill, which surrounds a drill bit and which lies adjacent the work surface, comprises a body portion defining a first inlet adapted to engage the work surface and to surround the location at which said bit penetrates the surface. The shroud body further defines a first outlet connected to a source of suction and a third inlet for allowing the bit to pass through said body portion. A first sealing means is arranged in said third inlet for surrounding said bit and resisting the flow of air. Wherein said body portion includes at least one protruding portion defining a second inlet between said protruding portion and an adjacent part of said body, and on a side of said protruding portion remote from the first inlet. The second inlet admits air to enter said body portion and travel to the first outlet.

Dust extraction shroud for a power tool

A battery-powered hand-guided power tool is provided, such as a hammer, includes a tool housing that contains an electric motor M, a grip housing and a rail-and-channel structure for releasable mounting of a rechargeable battery pack . The battery pack is locked in an operative position on the housing in which electrical contacts ( ) of the battery pack and associated electrical contacts of the tool housing are electrically connected along a contact length extending in a longitudinal direction of the rail-and-channel arrangement. A latch structure located on the tool housing is movable between a latched position and a release position. When the latch structure is moved from the latched position into the release position, the battery pack can be moved in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the rail-and-channel structure out of the operative position and can be removed from the tool housing . Between the battery pack and the tool housing there is arranged a spring which loads the inserted battery pack in a direction of a displacement movement out of the operative position. The distance of travel of the spring is greater than the contact length of the contacts and the restoring force of the spring at the contact length is greater than the weight of the battery pack
