A method for producing an assembly unit includes providing the assembly unit with an assembly part and at least one welding element serving for the thermal joining of the assembly part to a basic construction. The welding element is fixed in a through opening of the assembly part with at least one form-locking connection acting in the direction of the center longitudinal axis of the through opening and having a first end face, a second end face facing away from the first, and a peripheral surface that interconnects the end faces. The welding element has two side faces running parallel to each other and pointing away from each other, a profile that ensures the at least one form-locking connection and two transverse surfaces which connect the side faces one to the other.

An assembly unit is produced according to the following method steps: an assembly part is provided which does not yet have a through bore. A disc-shaped welding element blank with a first end side, a second end side and a peripheral surface is stamped out of a sheet metal blank by a punch and a hole die so that the peripheral surface has a cylindrical longitudinal portion extending away from the first end side, and an adjoining cone portion which tapers towards the second end side and forms with this a cutting edge. The welding element blank is stamped with the cutting edge at the front into the assembly part to thereby form the through bore.

In order to reliably ensure a press-in connection between joining elements, in particular a press-in nut and a pre-punched component, a press-in device contains a die which has a die ring and a die mandrel. The die mandrel is mounted counter to a spring force in the manner of a pilot pin. In addition, the die ring is also mounted counter to a spring force such that a two-stage press-in operation is carried out. Preferably, during a first press-in stage an anti-rotation lock is formed between the press-in nut and the component and in a second press-in stage an axial pull-out prevention measure is formed. To this end, the die mandrel deforms a nut flange.

In order to ensure reliable feeding in particular of a clinch nut (M) from a ready position () into a processing position, the processing tool designed as a press-in tool () has a guide element (), through which the clinch nut (M) is pressed into the processing position by means of a punch () against an elastic holding force exerted by the guide element (). The invention concerns an industrial robot () comprising a machining tool () attached to one hand () of the robot, designed to perform a hydraulic-driven movement relative to the hand () and connected therefor to a hydraulic unit ().
