A radio base station and a method therein for scheduling an uplink radio resource to a first user equipment in a wireless communication system which employs CDMA are provided. The method includes measuring an Interference Suppression (IS) gain for each user equipment in a set of user equipments currently being served by the radio base station. The method further includes determining a user constellation pertaining to information regarding the different user equipments in the set of user equipments and their respective bitrates, and updating a table of IS gains with the measured IS gain in bins corresponding to the determined user constellation. The method further includes predicting a load based on at least the updated table, and scheduling the uplink radio resource to the first user equipment at least partly based on the predicted load.

Uplink scheduling when using interference suppression

The present invention discloses schemes to perform load control taking uplink BLER statistics into account. An uplink load control method and apparatus are provided in a wireless communication system. The uplink load control method comprises estimating uplink load budget in a cell of the wireless communication system; determining whether the cell is over-loaded based on Block Error Rate (BLER) statistics of non-Guarded Bit Rate (non-GBR) users in the cell and/or Fast Congestion Control (FCC) action statistics in the cell; decreasing the uplink load budget if it is determined that the cell is over-loaded; and increasing the uplink load budget if it is determined that the cell is not over-loaded. Preferably, increasing or decreasing of the uplink load budget is based on the BLER stastics BLERof targeted users by FCC. By means of the BLER and FCC status, BLER of EUL users can be controlled in an acceptable range while maximizing the benefit of FCC in improving load utilization and consequently uplink throughput as much as possible. On the other hand, the uplink load control method can further comprises adjusting a RoT target RoT, based on BLER statistics of Guarded Bit Rate (GBR) users in order to increase load headroom available for non-GBR users in appropriate conditions without violating the performance of GBR users.

Uplink load control method and apparatus used in a wireless communication system

A method in a first radio network controller, RNC, () for handling a reuse of a scrambling code in a cellular network () is provided. The first RNC () defines a set of scrambling codes. Each scrambling code in the defined set is locally reused by at least two cells in the cellular network (). The first RNC () receives a measurement report from a user equipment (). The measurement report is related to a scrambling code that is comprised in the defined set of scrambling codes. The first RNC () determines that the reported scrambling code is comprised in the defined set of scrambling codes. The first RNC () initiates, based on the determination, a process for identifying, among the at least two cells in which the reported scrambling code is locally reused, an originating cell from which the reported scrambling code originates.

A method in at least one radio network node for handling earner selection comprises measuring at least one of interference or load levels on at least two uplink carriers, said measurement being performed in at least one sector of each carrier, calculating an offset based on said measured Interference or said measured load levels on the at least two uplink carriers, said offset reflecting the interference or load difference between the uplink carriers, and signaling said offset to a communication device, thereby allowing said communication device to base its carrier selection for random access at least on said measured interference or load levels on said at least two uplink carriers.

Methods and arrangements for handling carrier selection

A method for power control stabilization in the uplink of a cellular CDMA communication system applying a fast inner loop power control comprises determining () of a radio frame based RoT value for a cell. A radio frame based SINR is determined () for individual UEs in the cell. The RoT value is compared () with a first threshold. Each frame based SINRs is compared () with a second threshold. The fast inner loop power control for a UE is broken () in dependence of the comparisons. Uplink power control

In a cellular radio system, the number of TDM users per cell is limited. The cellular radio system can be a WCDMA system and in particular a WCDMA system employing an Enhanced Uplink (EUL). Other users in the cell are scheduled using CDM scheduling.

Scheduling method

Random access coverage is assured while at the same time supporting high uplink data rates in a same service area served by a base station. A set of radio resources are shared by multiple mobile terminals for transmitting uplink to the base station including requests for access to service from the base station and transmissions for active connections with the base station. A first repeating time period and a second different repeating time period are defined. Uplink transmission grants are scheduled for active connections that permit use of a greater amount of the radio resources during the first repeating time period. Uplink transmission grants are also scheduled for active connections that permit use of a smaller amount of those resources during the second repeating time period. At least some random access requests to the base station are controlled to occur only during the second repeating time period.

Random access with full coverage on selected resources

Method and controlling network node in a radio access network

Teachings presented herein provide reduced computational complexity and/or memory requirements for a mobile terminal to determine the power backoff required for a multi-carrier uplink signal. In particular, the mobile terminal determines whether its power headroom falls below a pre-defined power headroom threshold, indicating that it is headroom limited. If so, it quantizes power allocated to each carrier of the multi-carrier uplink signal according to a pre-defined quantization policy. In doing so, the mobile terminal thereby reduces the possible configurations that may be selected for the multi-carrier uplink signal. Thus, in one embodiment, the mobile terminal stores the required backoff in a look-up table for only the configurations that may be selected when the mobile terminal is headroom limited. This relieves the memory requirements of the mobile terminal as compared to storing the required backoff for all possible configurations of the multi-carrier uplink signal.

Power backoff for multi-carrier uplink transmissions

The invention relates to a radio base station () and method in a radio base station of a cellular communications system () for controlling self-interference. The radio base station () supports communication with a user equipment () using multiple uplink and multiple downlink carriers (). The method comprises detecting a degraded downlink performance on a downlink carrier () due to self-interference by determining that a set of predefined conditions applies. The method further comprises executing, in response to detection of the degraded downlink performance, an action to reduce self-interference between the uplink and downlink carriers (). The action is one of: uplink scheduling to reduce self-interference, deactivation of a secondary uplink carrier (), deactivation of a secondary downlink carrier (), and initiation of carrier reconfiguration to reduce self-interference. Accordingly, benefits of using multi-carrier operation may be balanced against a possible associated drawback of degraded downlink performance due to self-interference.

Apparatus and method for controlling self-interference in a cellular communications system

A multi-carrier cellular radio communication system includes a serving base station associate with a serving cell currently serving a mobile radio and a non-serving base station within range of the mobile radio and associated with a non-serving cell. The mobile radio can transmit to the serving base station at the same time over multiple radio frequency carriers. An estimate is made of inter-cell interference in the non-serving cell caused by uplink transmission by the mobile radio over one or more of the multiple radio frequency carriers over which the mobile radio is currently simultaneously transmitting. If the estimated inter-cell interference in the non-serving cell exceeds a predetermined threshold, then the inter-cell interference in the non-serving cell is reduced or limited by managing radio resources so that the estimated inter-cell interference in the non-serving cell is or becomes less than the predetermined threshold.
