An inkjet print head includes a plurality of droplet jetting devices. The plurality of droplet jetting devices is formed of a nozzle layer defining, for each of the plurality of droplet jetting devices, a nozzle, a membrane layer carrying, on a membrane, a restrictor layer and an actuator for generating pressure waves in a liquid in a pressure chamber that is connected to the nozzle. The actuator is positioned in an actuator chamber in the restrictor layer, and a distribution layer defining a supply line for supplying the liquid to the pressure chamber. The restrictor layer includes an inlet restrictor having a cross-section and an outlet restrictor positioned on opposites sides of the actuator and having a cross-section that is different from the cross-section of the inlet restrictor.

A process of manufacturing droplet jetting devices includes bonding together a nozzle wafer defining nozzles of the jetting devices, a membrane wafer carrying, on a membrane, actuators for generating pressure waves in a liquid in pressure chambers that are connected to the nozzles, and a distribution wafer forming a distribution layer that defines supply lines for supplying the liquid to the pressure chambers from a liquid reservoir formed on a side of the distribution layer opposite to the membrane wafer; and dicing the bonded wafers. The distribution layer has a thickness larger than the thickness of each of the other two wafers. A restrictor for controlling the inertance of the liquid supply line is formed through the distribution layer in a direction normal to the plane of that layer.

Process of manufacturing droplet jetting devices

An ejection device includes a tile made of a material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). The tile carries a chip that forms a plurality of ejection units and is in thermal contact with the tile. The chip is mainly made of a material having a second CTE different from the first CTE, wherein each ejection unit is capable of ejecting droplets of a liquid and comprises a pressure chamber and a flexible wall delimiting the pressure chamber. The flexible wall has a deformation compliancy that depends upon at least one mechanical design parameter of the chip. In operation at a temperature different from room temperature, the ejection units have uniform ejection properties, while the compliancies of the flexible walls of at least two of the ejection units are different from one another at room temperature.

A print head has a tile made of a material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). The tile carries a chip that forms a number of printing elements and is in thermal contact with the tile. The chip is mainly made of a material having a second CTE different from the first CTE. A stress relief plate is made of a material having a third CTE that is closer to the second CTE than the first CTE and is bonded to the tile with a first adhesive layer having a first thickness d1. The chip is bonded to the stress relief plate with a second adhesive layer having a second thickness d2 smaller than the first thickness d1.

A print head includes a plurality of chip-like tiles arranged on a common substrate, each tile having a front face with an array of recording elements disposed in the front face in a predetermined pattern, and a generally rectangular contour with a cut-out formed at at least one of its four corners, each cut-out being delimited by two reference-defining walls extending normal to one another and to the front face and serving as a reference for positioning the tiles on the substrate so as to establish a predetermined positional relationship between the recording elements of the different tiles. The substrate has a plurality of recesses accommodating each at least a part of a tile and having side walls that define engagement surfaces for each of the reference-defining walls of each tile, the substrate is formed of a material that is suitable for photo-lithographic processing, and the engagement surfaces of the substrate are surfaces formed by photo-lithographic techniques.

A droplet ejection device comprising a flow passage, a nozzle orifice formed in a wall of the flow passage, a circulation system for circulating a liquid through the flow passage, and an actuator system for generating a pressure wave in the liquid in the flow passage, wherein an obstruction member is arranged in the flow passage in a position opposite to the nozzle orifice and projecting towards the nozzle orifice.

A rotation connector, or slip ring, adapted to the transmission of electrical signals from a first device to a second device, which second device is rotatable with respect to the first device, wherein the connector includes a substantially dielectric support member having a longitudinal direction and provided with a first end portion and a second end portion, the surface of the support member being provided with an electrically conductive track extending longitudinally as far as the region of the second end. A self-supporting contact ring with a substantially circular electrically conductive peripheral edge is pushed over said support member and fixed thereto, such that the peripheral edge of the contact ring is in connection with the electrically conductive tracks via an electrically conductive path.
