A power transmitter for wirelessly providing power to a power receiver comprises an output circuit comprising a transmitter coil generating a power transfer signal when a drive signal is applied to the output circuit. A load function circuit determines a load function that describes a dependency of a loading of the drive signal by the output circuit on a frequency of the drive signal for the power transmitter and power receiver arrangement. An interval circuit determines two operating frequency ranges separated by a non-operating frequency range in response to the load function. A power controller controls a power level of the power transfer signal by adjusting the frequency of the drive signal over at least frequencies within the operating frequencies while excluding frequencies within the non-operating frequency range.

Wireless power transfer

A power transmitter () comprises a driver () generating a drive signal for a transmitter coil to generate a power transfer signal during a power transfer time interval and an electromagnetic test signal during a measurement time interval. A set of balanced detection coils () comprise two detection coils arranged such that signals induced in the two detection coils by an electromagnetic field generated by the transmitter coil compensate each other. An estimation circuit () determines a position/coupling factor estimate for the power receiver () in response to signals from the plurality of sets of balanced detection coils () during the at least one measurement time interval.

Wireless power transmitter and method of operation therefor

A power transmitter () comprises a driver () generating a drive signal for an output resonance circuit comprising transmitter coil () generating a power transfer signal. A resonance detector () determines a coupled resonance frequency for the output resonance circuit during where the coupled resonance frequency is a resonance frequency for the output resonance circuit for the transmitter coil () being coupled to a receiver coil () which is part of a power transfer input resonance circuit of the power receiver (). The input resonance circuit has a quality factor of no less than ten. An estimation circuit () determines a coupling factor estimate for the coupling between the transmitter coil () and the receiver coil () in response to a non-coupled resonance frequency of the output resonance circuit and the first effective resonance frequency. An adapter () sets an operating parameter in response to the coupling factor estimate.
