The present invention relates to a method for verifying the match of envelopes and documents in an automated matched mail system, by for a first envelope and a first document, scanning a face of the envelope and extracting envelope-addressee data indicative of the human-readable addressee information on the envelope; scanning the document so as to extract document data indicative of the content of the document; searching through the document data to locate a match to the envelope-addressee data and designating an area of interest within the document at the location at which the match occurs; for a further envelope and a further document, scanning a face of the envelope and extracting envelope-addressee data indicative of the human-readable addressee information on the envelope; scanning the document so as to extract document-addressee data at a location within the document corresponding to said designated area of interest and comparing the envelope-addressee data and the document-addressee data so as to verify the match of the further envelope and further document.

Automated mail inserting

A method and apparatus is disclosed for preparing mail pieces. By determining the number of postal items of a mail set that is fed or to be fed to a gathering station, the further processing can be based thereon, and if the number of postal items exceeds a predetermined maximum, the mail set is split by transporting the already gathered postal items from the gathering station to the inserting station, where the postal items are inserted in an envelope and an envelope printer can print an association marking on the envelope of the formed mail piece.

Method and apparatus for preparing mail pieces

A method and apparatus for producing a batch of mail items. A number of sheets are assembled to at least two documents, wherein at least two of the documents each contain at least two sheets. Each of the sheets in the batch is provided with a unique identification code unique to each sheet in the batch. The documents are assembled to one or more mail items. At least one unique identification code is read and the read unique identification codes are tested against a criterion. An error message is provided if the characteristic does not meet the criterion.
