Techniques for detecting one or more focus areas of a user and structuring activities and content around the focus area(s) are disclosed. The activities of a user, the people associated with the activities, and/or the content associated with the activities are automatically inferred or detected based on the channels of collaboration associated with the focus area(s). Example channels of collaboration include, but are not limited to, electronic mail, instant messages, documents, and in-person and online meetings. Some or all of the activities, people, and/or content are grouped into one or more focus areas, where a focus area relates to an endeavor in which the user focuses on over a period of time. Some or all of the focus areas are presented to the user.

Structuring communication and content for detected activity areas

Shadowing of local or remote information to cloud-based computing systems is provided. As content and activities associated with content (e.g., content modification activities, content communication activities, people associated with content, social networking associated with content, etc.) are developed at a local on-premises computing system that is remote from the cloud-based computing system responsible for maintaining the same content and content activities, the local content and activities are shadowed to the cloud-based system at a regular frequency so that the content and activities at the cloud-based system are synchronized and merged with the content and activities at the local system.

Document tags are rapidly indexed using a text based index and a graph index. A tag signal is received. A tag and a type of the tag that are located in the tag signal are stored in a data store. The tag is indexed as a tag document in the text based index. One or more relationships between the tag and a content document are managed in the graph index.

Documents in a local computing system are parsed for indexing and sent to a cloud-based computing system. The cloud-based search service indexes documents that are parsed on the local computing system, as well as documents that reside in the cloud-based computing system. When a user launches a search, the search is executed against a single search index in the cloud-based computing system, which includes an index of content sources from both the local computing system and the cloud-based computing system.

Hybrid search connector

A computer-implemented method for determining a crowdsourced association between a first user identifier, and a second user identifier for a user of a service accessible over a network. Service data are searched to identify users of the service having a potential association with the first user identifier. Users of the service are invited in turn to select one of the identified users in relation to the first user identifier. A tier of linkage is determined, from at least two defined tiers, between a user making the selection and the selected user. A vote is recorded, of the determined tier, for the selection. A threshold is assigned to votes according to the tier of linkage so that if the votes of at least one of the defined tiers achieves its assigned threshold, it may be determined whether the first user identifier is associated with the respective second user identifier.

Crowdsourcing content associations in a profile-hosting system

Computing systems and processes of creating provisional account profiles of users are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a computing system is configured to detect at least one ingoing or outgoing communication to or from a first globally unique identifier of a first user that has not already linked to an account of said service. In response to said detection, the computing system is configured to create a provisional user profile for the first user linked to the first globally unique identifier and gather public information associated with the first user from one or more third-party sources outside said service. When the first user joins said service, the computing system can be configured to allocate the provisional user profile to an account belonging to the first user linked to the first globally unique identifier.

System and method of creating provisional account profiles

A server system comprising a physically separate storage area for each of a plurality of respective parties including a first and second party, and a manager function for managing the storage. E.g. some of the storage areas may be in separate server units or at separate geographic locations. Each of at least some of the storage areas stores a primary instance of one or more data resources of the respective party. The manager function is configured so as, in response to the second party forming a relationship with one of the resources of the first party, establish a secondary copy of said one of the resources of the first party in the respective storage area of the second party. Further, when the primary instance is updated with a change, the manager function automatically propagates the change in the primary instance to the secondary copy in the second party's storage area.
