Containers for collecting and discharging particulate lignocellulosic material are disclosed, including a cylindrical upper portion, a lower portion tapering towards a bottom elongated space, an exit pipe below the bottom, a pair of parallel screws mounted on parallel shafts in the elongated space in a common horizontal plane for feeding the particulate lignocellulosic material towards the exit pipe, a pair of distributors disposed on the parallel screws above the exit pipe comprising radial discs, and a pump below the exit pipe for transporting the particulate lignocellulosic material to a subsequent step.

Apparatus for screening pulp suspensions is provided, including a housing, a rotary screen within the housing, a screen chamber between the rotary screen and the housing, a reject outlet, an accept outlet, an outer screen surface defining the outer surface of the screen chamber, a bottom screen surface defining the lower surface of the screen chamber, a slot ring at the bottom screen surface and adjacent to a knob ring at the lower end of the rotary screen, and an adjustment screw for adjusting the size of the gap between the knob ring and the slot ring from outside of the housing.

Apparatus for separating a fiber suspension is provided including a housing with an upper chamber in the upper portion thereof, a rotor rotatably mounted in the housing, a first rotary screen mounted for rotation with the rotor and dividing the housing into a first screen chamber and a first accept chamber, a second screen radially outward from the rotor defining a second screen chamber, the diameter of the first rotary screen being less than that of the second screen, the first rotary screen being located within the second screen, an inlet, a reject outlet, at least one accept outlet and a stator within the first rotary screen including at least one pulse member for creating a pulse within the first rotary screen, the diameter of the housing being less than the diameter of the second screen and the first rotary screen being separated from the second screen chamber and located at least partially within the second screen chamber.

Screening apparatus including two screen means

A pressure screen for separating a liquid mixture is disclosed, comprising a screen housing forming a cylindrical screen chamber, and an inlet housing directly connected to the screen housing and forming a cylindrical inlet chamber, the diameter of which is less than the diameter of the screen chamber. An inlet member is positioned on the inlet chamber for supplying a suspension to be separated substantially tangentially into the inlet chamber and an outlet member is positioned on the inlet chamber for discharging coarse contaminants from the inlet chamber, whereby the scrap particles are prevented from entering the screen chamber.

Centrifugal pumps are disclosed for pumping a pulp suspension including a housing, a rotary shaft mounted within the housing, an impeller including a hub and blades, a wheel disk mounting the blades and including openings for discharging gas generated in the pump, vacuum blades mounted on the hub behind the wheel disk, a vacuum housing enclosing the vacuum blades, the vacuum housing including an outer cylindrical wall which is radially displaced and eccentrically disposed with respect to the vacuum blades, the vacuum housing including a front wall and a rear wall separated from the vacuum blades by a gap, the rear wall being axially adjustable so that the gap between the vacuum blades and the rear wall can be adjusted to adjust the vacuum generated thereby, and a passageway for communication between the openings in the wheel disk and the suction opening.

Apparatus is disclosed for pumping a pulp suspension including a housing and an impeller including a central hub, a wheel disk surrounding the central hub, and pump blades extending radially from the central hub along the wheel disk, which includes at least one opening for discharge of an entrained gas from the pump suspension, a vacuum pump at the rear face of the impeller, and vacuum pump blades mounted for rotation within the vacuum pump housing, which includes an outer wall which is eccentrically disposed with respect to the vacuum pump blade, and a rear wall which includes a suction port for receiving the entrained gas, and with the vacuum pump housing mounted adjacent to the central hub to provide a gap therebetween, so that vacuum pump housing is axially adjustable so that the gap can be altered by axial adjustment of the vacuum pump housing.

Apparatus for mixing steam or bleaching agents with a pulp suspension is disclosed, including a chamber for receiving the flow of pulp suspension from an input line, the chamber including a jacket surrounding the flow of pulp suspension through the chamber, the inlet to the chamber defined by an inlet flange having a diameter which is smaller than the diameter of the input line, and the jacket including a supply orifice for supplying the steam or bleaching fluid to the flow of pulp suspension in the chamber.

Screening apparatus is disclosed for separating fiber suspensions comprising a housing having an inlet for the fiber suspension, a stationary tubular screen dividing the interior of the housing into a central chamber for receiving the fiber suspension from the inlet and an outer accept chamber for receiving an accept portion of the fiber suspension which has passed through the stationary tubular screen, a rotor journalled on the housing for rotation within the central chamber coaxially with the stationary tubular screen, the rotor including a rotationally symmetrical element, a reject chamber for receiving a reject portion of the fiber suspension at one end of the stationary tubular screen, and an annular passage for dilution liquid including a stationary annular wall portion juxtaposed with the rotationally symmetrical element of the rotor.

Methods for oxygen delignification of chemical pulps are disclosed including contacting the chemical pulp with oxygen first in an upstream reactor vessel and then in a downstream reactor vessel. The upstream reactor vessel is maintained at pressures of greater than about 3 bar, and the downstream reactor vessel is maintained at temperatures of between about 90 and 120&deg; C. and corresponding predetermined pressures. Heating of the partially delignified chemical pulp between the upstream and downstream reactors is accomplished by contacting the partially delignified chemical pulp with low pressure steam.

Apparatus for treating an aqueous medium with a treatment fluid including a housing forming a treatment chamber, a rotatable rotor arranged in the treatment chamber, and including a number of rotor rings carried by the rotatable rotor and coaxially arranged at the periphery of the rotatable rotor, a number of stationary stator rings coaxially inserted between the rotor rings thus forming a number of annular axial treatment slots which have a radial size between the rotor rings and the stationary stator rings, the radial size of these slots increasing with increasing distance from the axis of the rotatable rotor, an inlet for delivering the working medium and the treatment fluid to one side of the annular axial treatment slots and an outlet for the treated working media disposed at the other side of the annular axial treatment slots, whereby the working medium is sheared in the treatment slots during operation so that substantially homogeneous shearing velocities are achieved in each of these slots.

Screening apparatus is disclosed for separating fiber suspensions including a housing having an inlet for the fiber suspension, a stationary tubular screen having an inlet end adjacent to the housing inlet and an outlet end, and dividing the interior of the housing into a central chamber for receiving the fiber suspension from the inlet, and an outer accept chamber for receiving an accept fraction of the fiber suspension, a rotor journalled on the housing for rotation within the central chamber coaxially with the stationary tubular screen, a reject passage for receiving a reject portion of the fiber suspension at the outlet end of the stationary tubular screen, and an annular reject passage which has a radial width and a cross-sectional area at the outlet end of the stationary tubular screen for discharging the reject portion of the fiber suspension from the central chamber to the reject passage, the annular reject passage including an annular flange attached to the inner wall of the passage, resilient tubing disposed in the annular groove connectable to a source of pressure whereby the resilient tubing can be extended and contracted and an elastic ring surrounding the resilient tubing.
