A fine surface profile meter includes an X-Y stage, supported by a leaf spring, for supporting a sample thereon, a piezoelectric actuator for two-dimensionally scanning the X-Y stage, a positioning table, disposed below the X-Y stage, for positioning the X-Y stage at an arbitrary position, an objective lens disposed above the X-Y stage, an observation optical system for allowing an operator to observe an enlarged sample image, a measurement optical system, an optical axis of which is aligned with an optical path of the objective lens through a beam splitter, the measurement optical system for emitting a laser beam onto the sample through the objective lens and to receive the laser beam reflected by the sample, a calculator circuit for calculating height information of the sample using an output from the measurement optical system and for obtaining a two-dimensional distribution of the height information, a cover for shielding the X-Y stage, the positioning means, the objective lens, the beam splitter, the observation optical system, and the measurement optical system from an outer atmosphere, a detachable measurement unit for integrally holding the objective lens, the beam splitter, and the measurement optical system, a supporting plate supported on the X-Y stage through columns, and an arm, mounted on the supporting plate, for supporting the measurement optical system and the observation optical system.

A selective ion sensitive electrode is so constructed that an ion exchanger sensitive to a specific ion is formed on a metal electrode, an electric conductive resin electrode or a chlorinated metal electrode to which a signal wire is connected so as to maintain a stable electric connection between the signal wire and the ion exchanger over a long period of time. A layer of a silane coupling agent is used between the electrode member and ion exchanger.

Selective ion sensitive electrode and method of making it

A compound chemically sensitive element comprises a chemically sensitive assembly which is selectively sensitive to a specific ion or a specific substance in a material to be examined, and a pH sensor having an insulated gate field effect transistor structure, both of which are separately manufactured. The chemically sensitive assembly and the insulated gate of the pH sensor are electrochemically connected together by a conductive resin, thus improving the durability and the selectivity of the element. In this manner, limitations imposed upon the manufacture of MOS pH sensor is removed, permitting a wide variety of chemically sensitive films to be used.

Compound chemically sensitive element

A liquid sample analyzer comprises an open, sample determining channel in the form of a small gap, means for supplying liquid sample to the channel, means for injecting a fluid into the channel to rinse its interior, and means for determining the optical density or the ion concentration of the liquid sample supplied to the channel. In this manner, the concentration of liquid sample such as blood is automatically determined and analyzed.

In the disclosed method, ion activity is measured by placing a cup filled with a test solution to be measured on a cup receiver, lifting a cup lifting arm to engage the cup receiver with a rotary plate, rotating the rotary plate to stir the test solution in the cup, measuring a potential difference between a reference electrode and other electrodes after completion of the stirring of the solution, and indicating the ion activity as a function of the potential differences.

Method for measuring ion activity

An electrode sensitive to ions in solution comprises an outer tubular body having an opening at its one end, an inner tubular body secured to the other end of the outer tubular body and having an opening at its one end, a tip member threadingly engaged to one end of the outer tubular body and having an aperture at its one end, a first porous membrane provided between the tip member and one end of the outer tubular body to define a first reservoir together with the outer tubular body, a sealing member provided around the periphery of the first porous membrane, a second porous membrane provided at one end of the inner tubular body to define a second reservoir therein, an ion-exchanger liquid accommodated in the first reservoir and in contact with the first porous membrane directly, an internal reference solution accommodated in the second reservoir, and an inner reference electrode connected to a shielded cable extended through the other end of the outer tubular body and dipped in the internal reference solution. The tip member for holding the first porous membrane is formed by a metal tube and at least a portion of the metal tube in contact with a solution to be tested is coated with an insulating film.

Ion selective electrode

In an apparatus for measuring ion activity, a reference electrode and an at least one test electrode project through an opening in a rotating plate while a cup receiver which holds a cup filled with the test solution is lifted from a disengaged position into a position where the cup receiver engages and is rotated by the rotating plate while the electrodes project into the solution. A measuring circuit connected to the electrodes measures the ion activity with the use of a reverse logarithmic amplifier.

Apparatus for measuring ion activity

An apparatus for automatic application of blood serum to a serum bearing film for use in a cataphoretic process includes a serum supply station, a serum application station, a rinsing station and a drip station. The apparatus also comprises a guide along which a serum applicator is sequentially moved through each of these stations, as well as operation controlling microswitches and a cam assembly.
