A fiber-reinforced polymer composition containing resin components including (a) 30-90 weight % of a polyamide resin, and (b) 10-70 weight % of polyolefin+unsaturated carboxylic acid-modified polyolefin, based on the resin components; and, per 100 parts by weight of the total components, (c) 5-50 parts by weight of glass fibers, and (d) additives including the following set of additives: 0.1-1 parts by weight of N,N'-hexamethylene-bis (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxy-hydrocinnamide); 0.1-1 parts by weight of triethylene glycol-bis [3-(3-tert-butyl-5-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate]; and 0.1-1 parts by weight of pentaerythrityl-tetrakis [3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate]. An alternative set of additives are 0.1-2 parts by weight of N,N'-bis [3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionyl] hydrazine; 0.05-0.5 parts by weight of pentaerythrityl-tetrakis [3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate]; 0.05-0.5 parts by weight of distearyl-pentaerythritol diphosphite; and 0.15-1 parts by weight of distearyl-3,3'-thiodipropionate.

Fiber-reinforced polymer composition

Fiber-reinforced polymer compositions containing resin components including (a) 30-90 weight % of polyamide resins, and (b) 10-70 weight % of polyolefins+unsaturated carboxylic acid-modified polyolefins, based on the resin components; and (c) 5-50 parts by weight of glass fibers per 100 parts by weight of the total compositions, a molar ratio of end amino groups in the polyamide resins to carboxyl groups in the modified polyolefins being 10-1000. The compositions have a morphology in which polyolefin domains having an average size of 0.5-5 .mu.m are uniformly dispersed in polyamide matrix phases. They are produced by a double-screw extruder having a length/inner diameter (L/D) ratio of 25 or more and having a first hopper for introducing the resin components, a second hopper for introducing the glass fibers, a vent and a die exit in this order, and further having at least one first kneading zone for strongly kneading the resin components, and at least one second kneading zone disposed between the second hopper and the vent for strongly kneading the resin components and the glass fibers.

Method of and apparatus for making fiber-reinforced polymer compositions

A thermoplastic resin composition having well-balanced properties which comprises 95-5 weight % of polycarbonate, 5-95 weight % of polyolefin and a particular combination of additional components selected from a styrene-ethylene.propylene copolymer, a styrene-ethylene. butyrene-styrene block copolymer, an AES resin, a styrene-olefin block copolymer, an unsaturated carboxylic acid-modified polyolefin, polybutylene terephthalate, a styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer, an oxazoline ring-containing styrene copolymer a saponified olefin-vinyl ester copolymer and an epoxy group-containing styrene copolymer.

Thermoplastic polyolefin-polycarbonate composition

Fiber-reinforced polymer composition and method of producing same

A two-step process for production of thermoplastic elastomer, which comprises dynamically vulcanizing polypropylene and olefinic rubber in the presence of peroxide (1st step), and dynamically vulcanizing the vulcanized mixture, polypropylene and halogenated butyl rubber in the presence of zinc oxide (2nd step). In another method (a) polyolefin and olefin rubber are dynamically cross-linked in the presence of an organic peroxide and (b) in a separate second operation a dynamically vulcanized blend comprising polyolefin and halogenated butyl rubber is prepared and mixed with (a) to disperse (a) and (b) in one another. The thermoplastic elastomer composition is useful in materials for parts of automobiles. In an example, pp 9 wt. % parts, EPDM 21 wt. % parts, peroxide 0.3 wt. % part and divinylbenzene 0.5 wt. % part were blended and supplied to the first hopper (1) of biaxial extruder as shown in a figure. In the first blending zone (2), temperature and residence time are 200.degree. C. and 60 seconds respectively. And then, to the second hopper (3) of the extruder, pp 50 parts and the vulcanized product (EPDM+chlorinated butyl rubber) 20 parts were supplied and extruded in the heat blending zone (4) above mentioned mixture for 30 seconds of residence time. The physical properties of the composition are MFR: 18, Flex. Mod.: 3,300 (23.degree. C.) and 1,150 (80.degree. C.), Tens. at break: 105, Elong.: 420%, Izod.: No break (room temperature) and 25 (-40.degree. C.) Shore-D: 58, Flow marks: good and paintability: 100/100.

Method for preparation of thermoplastic resin composition

A polyolefin composition comprising (a) polyolefin, (b) vegetable fibers mainly composed of cellulose fibers, and (c) a deodorizer selected from the group consisting of a combination of a metallic soap and an amine antioxidant, activated carbon, zeolite and a phosphorus compound. Because of the deodorizer, the polyolefin composition has substantially no odor without sacrificing mechanical properties thereof. Accordingly, it may be used suitably for car parts required to have high mechanical strength with substantially no odor, such as unit cases of air conditioners.
