Apparatus and method of producing a thin metal ribbon by pouring a molten metal onto the surface of a quench roll rotating at a high speed so as to rapidly cool and solidify the metal to form the ribbon, separating the ribbon from the quench roll and conveying the same to a take-up device. A compressed gas is blown tangent to the quench roll to separate the ribbon from the quench roll. The separated ribbon is sucked and caught by a suction conveyor which runs at a velocity greater than the speed of production of the thin meal ribbon thereby imparting tension to the ribbon.

Method and apparatus for producing thin ribbon

A continuous thin metal strip formed by quenching on a single quenching roll is separated from the quenching roll and conveyed along a fly path to a coiling system directly or via pinch rolls. The path along which the thin metal strip flies is stabilized by a jet of a fluid jetted from a slit and biased to flow along a convex curved surface, whereby the time until the strip is taken up or nipped by the pinch rolls is shortened.

Apparatus separates a thin metal strip produced from a molten metal from a surface of a cooling roll by rapidly solidifying using a single roll method and conveys and guides the separated thin strip downstream. A method of producing amorphous alloy thin strip suitable for use in commercial frequency band transformers utilizes a high-quality molten steel suitable for electromagnetic silicon steel plates but containing insufficient silicon and boron. The molten steel is divided when tapped out of a converter or after a vacuum degasifying steel making process, and silicon and boron are added with heating to create the desired composition. The molten steel is formed into thin amorphous alloy strip by quenching.

A pressure type automatic pouring furnace is formed with a molten metal outlet which has an opening end opening at a lower elevation than the general portion of the floor of a molten metal chamber. A method of guiding and transferring a rapidly quenched metallic tape includes steps of peeling the rapidly quenched metallic tape produced by solidification through rapid quenching on a circumferential surface of a single cooling roll rotating at a high speed, introducing the metallic tape into a cylindrical transfer guide to a pinch roll unit arranged at a terminal end of the transfer guide to catch the metallic tape by the pinch roll unit, and moving the pinch roll unit to a winder for the metal tape. The metallic tape is fed in the transfer guide substantially without being in contact with the transfer guide. An apparatus for guiding and transferring a rapidly quenched metallic tape includes a cylindrical transfer guide arranged on a normal line of a single cooling roll for introducing and guiding the metallic tape, a pinch roll unit arranged at a terminal end of the transfer guide for catching the metallic tape, and a transfer trolley for transferring the pinch roll unit to a winder for the metallic tape.

An ink for heat-sensitive recording which comprises, as color developing components, an aromatic or heterocyclic isocyanate compound and an imino compound which are dispersed and/or dissolved in an organic solvent and, as a binder, (1) a copolymer of a mixture of component (a) which is an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and component (b) which is at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid esters, methacrylic acid esters and aromatic vinyl compounds and/or (2) a three-component- or more component-copolymer, the fundamental skeleton of which is composed of isobutylene and maleic anhydride. The present invention provides a thermal transfer recording sheet which can form a matte and glossless image high in quality on an image receiving sheet. This thermal transfer recording sheet comprises a support and an undercoating layer comprising a heat-meltable olefin resin and a heat-meltable ink layer laminated in succession on one side of said support wherein difference in melting point of the undercoating layer and that of the heat-meltable ink layer is 20.degree. C. or less and the undercoating layer and the heat-meltable ink layer mix with each other and melt in the vicinity of interface therebetween after coating of these layers. The thickness of the under coating layer is preferably 0.5-5.0 .mu.m.

An apparatus for transferring a rapidly quenched metallic tape, which is produced by solidification through rapid quenching on a circumferential surface of a single cooling roll rotating at a high speed, from the cooling roll into a winder, comprises a transfer means provided with a pinch roll unit for catching and feeding out the peeled metallic tape, a fan for breaking and discharging the metallic tape fed out from the pinch roll unit, and a dust device for recovering metallic pieces and powder generated in the breakage of the metallic tape by the fan.

A method and an apparatus for transporting a rapidly quenched ribbon from a cooling roll to a winding reel by a pinch roll are disclosed. The pinch roll comprises a brush roll and a solid roll for transporting the ribbon such as to maintain an adequate tension in the ribbon without any transversal displacement and breakdown of ribbon. The tension is controlled within a range of 2.about.8 kgf by adjusting at least one of an amount of pressing of the brush roll against the solid roll, a pressing force on the brush roll and a ratio between circumferential speeds of the pinch roll and the cooling roll.

A method and apparatus for producing a rapidly solidified microcrystalline metallic tape. The method provides for molten metal to be continuously poured through a nozzle onto surfaces of cooling members to form a rapidly solidified metallic tape and then coiling the tape on a reel. According to this method, the metallic tape is secondarily cooled and rolled before the coiling. The apparatus includes a device for cutting out a non-steadly portion of the metallic tape, a device for measuring tape thickness, a secondary cooling member, and a device for controlling the tension of the metallic tape.

Pressure is exerted on the interior of casting rolls with a negative crown so that the rolls may maintain a true cylindrical surface without any crown when the continuous casting operation is initiated. A process and an apparatus for producing rapidly solidified metallic tapes by a double-roll system are disclosed, wherein molten metal is poured into a kissing region defined between a fixed cooling roll and a movable cooling roll through a nozzle located thereabove and rapidly solidified at the kissing region to form a metallic tape.
