An apparatus and method for driving a motor with a reduced current flowing in the motor, as well as reduced vibrations of the motor at a start-up is provided. The motor driving apparatus has a position detector for detecting a position of a rotor of a brushless DC motor, a DC/AC converter for converting a DC voltage derived from a DC power supply into an AC voltage, and a controller for controlling the DC/AC converter to control the conduction of a stator winding of the motor. For a start-up of the motor, the controller positions the rotor by supplying a current to a first conduction phase of the stator winding, and then once turns off the conduction. After that, the controller controls the DC/AC converter to rotate the rotor by supplying current to a second conduction phase of the stator winding, and to start a position detecting operation after a specified time elapses since the rotor starts rotation.

Apparatus and method for driving motor

An outdoor unit of a separate type air conditioner has suction ports and a blow-out port which can be disposed freely on the same side of the unit. Also, an outdoor unit of a one-side suction and exhaust type is excellent in static pressure characteristic, sufficient in air flow rate using only one blower, and is easy to install. Suction ports (8) are disposed at both sides in the front side of an outdoor unit main body (outer case 7), and a blow-out port (6a) is disposed in the center of the front side. A heat exchanger (3), an orifice (5), and one centripetal fan (1) are sequentially disposed behind the blow-out port (6a), thereby forming a draft circuit for sucking air from the suction ports (8) at the outer circumference of blades (1a) of the centripetal fan (1). The air is blown out ahead of the blades (1a) through the orifice (5) and heat exchanger (3). Therefore, since suction space is not required, the outdoor unit can be installed close to a wall. In addition, by the use of the centripetal fan (1), a sufficient air flow rate is obtained with only one blower, and the size of the outdoor unit for producing a same capacity may be kept to a minimum.

A scroll compressor includes a stationary scroll member accommodated in a closed housing and having a stationary end plate and a stationary scroll wrap protruding axially from the stationary end plate, and also includes an orbiting scroll member accommodated in the closed housing and having an orbiting end plate and an orbiting scroll wrap protruding axially from the orbiting end plate so as to engage with the stationary scroll wrap to define a plurality of working pockets therebetween. A volume ratio indicating a ratio of the volume of the working pockets at an end of suction to that at an end of compression is set to be smaller than a value corresponding to a compression ratio determined by an evaporation pressure and a condensation pressure at a performance half a rated performance during heating.

Scroll compressor

A scroll compressor has a check valve assembly for selectively opening and closing a discharge port and allowing a fluid to flow only from the discharge port towards a discharge chamber. A stationary end plate mounted in the scroll compressor has a plurality of bypass holes defined therein at locations symmetrical in terms of pressure. The plurality of bypass holes are open to compression chambers closest to the discharge port and communicate with the discharge chamber. The stationary end plate also has at least one bypass valve for selectively opening and closing the bypass holes and allowing the fluid to flow only from the compression chambers towards the discharge chamber through the bypass holes. The bypass holes are serviceable to prevent an excessive compression and are positioned so as not to be closed by an orbiting scroll wrap immediately after the compression chambers closest to the discharge port have communicated with the discharge port.

A scroll compressor includes a stationary scroll member accommodated in a closed housing and having a stationary end plate and a stationary scroll wrap protruding axially from the stationary end plate, and also includes an orbiting scroll member accommodated in the closed housing and having an orbiting end plate and an orbiting scroll wrap protruding axially from the orbiting end plate so as to engage with the stationary scroll wrap to define a plurality of working pockets therebetween. A crankshaft is provided to drive the orbiting scroll member, and the crankshaft includes a main shaft and an auxiliary shaft on opposite sides thereof. A main bearing supports the main shaft of the crankshaft. A bearing frame is secured to an inner surface of the closed housing, and an auxiliary bearing is mounted to the bearing frame to support the auxiliary shaft of the crankshaft. The closed housing has an oil sump formed therein to accommodate lubricating oil, and an oil passage is formed in the bearing frame so as to extend into the oil sump. An oil feed device is mounted on the bearing frame and engages with one end of the auxiliary shaft to feed the lubricating oil from the oil sump through the oil passage.

A scroll compressor comprises a generally cylindrical casing and stationary and orbiting scrolls both accommodated in the casing. The stationary and orbiting scrolls engage with each other to define a plurality of compression chambers therebetween. The orbiting scroll is driven by a drive shaft which is in turn supported by a frame having a thrust bearing formed thereon. One of an orbiting end plate of the orbiting scroll and the thrust bearing has an annular groove defined therein in which an annular seal member is received. The orbiting scroll is disposed between the stationary scroll and the frame with an axial gap defined therebetween. First, second, and third back chambers are formed on the opposite side of the compression chambers with respect to the orbiting end plate. The first and second back chambers are partitioned by the annular seal member. The second back chamber is provided radially outwardly of the first back chamber and between the orbiting end plate and the thrust bearing, while the third back chamber is provided radially outwardly of the second back chamber. Oil passages are provided to introduce lubricating oil accommodated in the casing into the first chamber in which a discharge pressure acts. The oil passages act to supply part of the lubricating oil to the second chamber and then to the third chamber while reducing the pressure of the lubricating oil until the lubricating oil is eventually introduced into the suction chamber.

A blower includes a plurality of rotatable impeller vanes operable to impel air. The impeller vanes create an air pressure differential thereacross when rotated, and each of the impeller vanes has a porous central portion made of sintered resin material. The porous central portion has a plurality of pores therein which permit a portion of air to pass through the porous central portion from a relatively high air pressure side to a relatively low air pressure side of the impeller vanes. Each of the impeller vanes also has a non-porous portion surrounding the porous central portion. The non-porous portion is made of a solid resin material which prevents air from passing therethrough.

An impeller of a multiblade blower having at least two circular end plates or partition plates spaced apart from each other, and a plurality of blades disposed between the peripheral portions of the partition plates. Each of the blades is formed with a cylindrical portion having a uniform cross-sectional area, at the outer peripheral end thereof on the outer peripheral side of the impeller. The cylindrical portion has a diameter which is larger than the thickness of the blade at the outer peripheral end thereof so that the cylindrical portion is projected from both front and rear surfaces of the blade at the outer peripheral end of the latter.

An airfoil blade for a fan impeller, includes one blade surface portion formed by extrusion molding. A plurality of ribs are integrally formed with the one blade surface portion to extend upwardlyf rom it in generally a vertical direction and having heights as will provide a curve line for the other curved blade surface portion when end faces of the ribs are connected to each other. A sheet material is applied onto the ribs along their end faces to provide the other curved blade surface portion so as to form a blade configuration of the airfoil blade having a leading edge and a trailing edge and including hollow portions in it.

Airfoil blade for impeller fan and manufacturing method thereof

A compressor has a hermetic shell defining a compression chamber for compressing a fluid such as refrigerant gas supplied therein. The compressed gas is discharged from the compression chamber through a discharge port. A valve arrangement is provided at the discharge port for permitting the flow of the gas only in one direction from the inside to the outside of the compression chamber. The valve arrangement comprises first and second resilient elongated plates each having first and second ends. The first ends of the first and second elongated plates are rigidly connected to the hermetic shell and the second ends are placed one on top of the other over the discharge port. The second end of the first elongated plate on the discharged port is formed with at least one opening so that the pressurized gas discharged from the discharge port hits partly on the first plate and partly on the second plate through the opening. Accordingly, the vibration of discharge valves caused by the rapid change of amount of flow of refrigerant gas produced from the discharge port can be suppressed, resulting in a quiet running of compressor.

The disclosure is directed to an improved rotary compressor of a closed type which is provided with a pressure introducing passage communicated at its one end, with a compression space within a cylinder, and at its other end, with a small volume space formed in the cylinder portion for reducing high frequency component in the cylinder inner pressure so as to reduce undesirable noises during operation of the compressor.
