An irrigation/aspiration apparatus for supplying an irrigation fluid from an irrigation source to a surgical site through a surgical instrument to remove the irrigation fluid with residual tissue by aspiration, the apparatus including, a first cassette provided with a first fluid line for supplying the irrigation fluid and a second fluid line for removing the residual tissue by aspiration, and a second cassette attachable to, and detachable from, the first cassette, the second cassette being provided with a connecting fluid line and a coupling member for connecting at least either the first fluid line or the second fluid line to the surgical instrument.

A surgical apparatus for removing a vitreous in an eyeball, comprises a cylinder, a piston disposed in the cylinder so as to be capable of moving, a moving device for reciprocating the piston in the cylinder, and a vitreous cutter. The vitreous cutter comprises a first gas chamber which connects with a second has chamber in the cylinder via a tube, an outer tubular blade having a hole, an inner tubular blade, a moving body which is capable of moving in a longitudinal axial direction of the outer tubular blade with holding the inner tubular blade, and an energisation device which causes the moving body to perform a backward movement toward the opposite side of the hole relative to the outer tubular blade. Where the inner tubular blade and the moving body are caused to perform a forward movement toward the hole relative to the outer tubular blade by a pressure rise in the first gas chamber, the pressure rise being caused by the forward movement of the piston, and to perform the backward movement relative to the outer tubular blade, which is accelerated by a negative pressure by a pressure fall in a second gas chamber connected to the first gas chamber via the tube, the pressure fall being caused by the backward movement of the piston.

Surgical apparatus for a vitreous

An irrigation/aspiration apparatus for aspirating and discharging drainage from a surgical site by a surgical device to which an aspiration tube is being connected, the apparatus comprising, a suction pump which produces suction pressure through the aspiration tube, a chamber provided between the surgical device and the suction pump in communication with the aspiration tube, and an expansible and contractible gaseous-filed bag which is filled with gas and provided within the chamber.

Irrigation/aspiration apparatus

An irrigating fluid from irrigating bottle (10) is supplied to the eye under operation through the tip of US handpiece (2) and sucked in through flexible aspirating tube (16) together with the residue in the eye. Peristaltic pump (20) sucks in the liquefied residue in the eye by means of rollers (21) which compress the aspirating tube (16) to collapse as they rotate. Block (28) is provided just prior to the point where the rollers (21) start compressing the aspirating tube (16) to collapse, such that the aspirating tube (16) is flattened while securing the aspirating path in the tube (16) as it is held between the block (28) and tube receptacle (25). The change in the capacity of the aspirating tube (16) which occurs when the rollers (21) compress the aspirating tube (16) is limited so that only a small volume of the liquefied residue will flow back. Thus, it is possible to reduce the pulsation from aspiration, thereby ensuring consistent rate of inflow.
