Disclosed is an ink composition including: (1) a pigment; (2) a polymerization initiator having a content of 2% by mass or more with respect to a total amount of the composition and having a solubility with respect to pure water at 25&#xb0; C. of 5 to 8 g/l; (3) a compound A that is at least one selected from the group consisting of dimethylacrylamide, diethylacrylamide, N-isopropylacrylamide, dimethylacetamide, N-ethylpyrrolidone, 1-cyclohexyl-2-pyrrolidone, 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-pyrrolidone, 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone, tetramethylurea and gamma-valerolactone; (4) a polymerizable compound having two or more ethylenically unsaturated double bonds; and (5) water having a content of 50% by mass or more with respect to the total amount of the composition.

An ink composition includes: a pigment; water; a polymerizable monomer that is capable of being polymerized by an active energy ray; and an initiator that is capable of initiating polymerization of the polymerizable monomer by the active energy ray, wherein a number of particles contained in the ink composition having a particle diameter of 0.8 &#x3bc;m or more is 20,000 particles/&#x3bc;l or less.

Ink composition, ink set and inkjet recording method

In a matting agent coating device, a matting agent within a supplying section is supplied to a metering section. A supplied amount of matting agent at a surface of a metering roller is metered by a metering blade, and an excess amount is filtered at a slit portion. Matting agent is supplied to an application roller that is provided directly beneath. For example, a closed-cell sponge rubber is used as a material of the metering roller, and a size of closed cells is around 5 to 100 times an average particle diameter of the matting agent. The matting agent that has been supplied to a surface of the application roller is transferred and applied onto a recording medium. The matting agent is transferred from the application roller onto image portions of the recording medium due to tackiness of an ink film forming an image.

The present invention provides an image forming method including ejecting an ink composition, using an ink jet apparatus, onto a recording medium thereby forming an image, the ink composition comprising a pigment, a water-soluble polymerizable monomer which is polymerized by actinic energy rays, and water, and the recording medium being composed of a base paper, a first layer including a binder, and a second layer including a white pigment and an acidic substance, which are disposed in this order, wherein a surface of the first layer is disposed on the base paper and has a Cobb water absorption capacity of 2.0 g/mor less at a contact time of 120 seconds as measured by a water-absorbing capacity test according to JIS P8140, a surface of the second layer has a water absorption of from 2 ml/mto 8 ml/mat a contact time of 0.5 seconds as measured by the Bristow's method, and the surface of the second layer has a pH of 5.5 or less.

A particle dispersion supply apparatus includes a roller, an ejection device and a particle dispersion permeation member. The roller rotates in a prescribed direction and touches an image formation face of a recording medium being conveyed by a conveyance body. The ejection device is disposed to oppose the roller at a roller rotation direction upstream side relative to the position at which the roller touches the image formation face of the recording medium, and ejects a particle dispersion in which numerous particles are dispersed in a liquid. The particle dispersion permeation member is disposed so as to be interposed between the ejection device and the roller and so as to contact the roller. The particle dispersion permeation member retains the particle dispersion and the particle dispersion can permeate therethrough.

A matting liquid coating section supplies a matting liquid to an outer peripheral surface of a pressing roller. At the matting liquid coating section, a web, that is a non-woven fabric or the like and in which is seeped a matting liquid formed from a liquid (silicon oil or the like) in which matting agent particles are dispersed at a predetermined concentration, is trained around a first rod and a second rod, and is made to abut an outer peripheral surface of the pressing roller while running along the outer peripheral surface. The matting liquid is transferred once to the outer peripheral surface of the pressing roller, and the matting agent particles that adhere to the roller surface are again transferred onto a surface of a recording medium.

Provided is an image forming method including applying an ink that forms an image by inkjetting an ink composition containing coloring particles, a water-soluble polymerizable compound, a polymerization initiator and water onto a recording medium in which a base paper, a first layer containing a binder, and a second layer containing a white pigment are layered in this order, and a Cobb water absorption degree on a surface of the first layer placed on the base paper is 5.0 g/mor less as measured by a water absorption degree test according to JIS P8140 with a contact time of 15 seconds, and a water absorption amount on a surface of the second layer is 2 mL/mto 8 mL/mas measured by a Bristow method with a contact time of 0.5 seconds.

The present invention provides an ink composition including: a pigment, a water-soluble polymerizable compound (A) having an acrylamide structure in a molecule thereof, a water-soluble solvent (B), and water, in which a mass ratio of the polymerizable compound (A) and the water-soluble solvent (B) satisfies 1/10&#x2266;B/A&#x2266;2/3.

An image forming method includes: applying an ink composition including a pigment having a volume average particle diameter of 70 nm to 130 nm, a polymerizable compound, and water, onto a recording medium using an inkjet under a condition that a maximum application amount of the ink composition is 15 ml/mor less; applying, onto the recording medium, a treatment liquid including an aggregating agent that is capable of aggregating components in the ink composition; removing at least a part of the water contained in the ink composition that has been applied onto the recording medium, under a drying condition such that 60% by mass to 80% by mass of the water contained in the ink composition applied at the maximum application amount is removed, thereby performing drying; and irradiating, with an active energy ray, the ink composition from which water has been removed, thereby performing polymerization.

An inkjet image forming method includes: applying, onto a recording medium which is held by suction on a support base, an ink composition including a pigment and a polymerizable compound using an inkjet; applying, onto the recording medium, a treatment liquid that includes an aggregating agent that is capable of aggregating components in the ink composition and that has a viscosity of 2 mPa&#xb7;s to 5 mPa&#xb7;s at 20&#xb0; C. and a surface tension of 25 mN/m to 45 mN/m at 25&#xb0; C.; and irradiating the ink composition applied to the recording medium with an active energy ray, thereby performing polymerization.

Inkjet image forming method

An inkjet recording method includes: a treatment liquid application process in which a treatment liquid containing an acidic compound is coated on a recording medium by roller coating at a coating speed of 300 mm/sec or higher; and an ink application process in which an ink composition containing self-dispersing polymer particles having an acid value of from 30 mgKOH/g to 80 mgKOH/g, a pigment, and an aqueous medium is ejected, by an inkjet process, onto the recording medium coated with the treatment liquid to record an image.

The present invention provides an ink set including: an ink composition including a pigment, polymer particles having an ethylene oxide chain in a side chain of the polymer, and a water-soluble polymerizable compound that has an ethylene oxide chain and that is polymerized by active energy rays; and a treating liquid including an aggregating agent that aggregates ingredients in the ink composition.
