Audio reproduction apparatus and method for controlling audio data reproduction in accordance with a user operation or input extracts a predetermined musical characteristic, such as a rhythm, melody, etc., from audio data and generates a time information string indicating reproduction timings. During the audio data reproduction, a user operation/input on the apparatus based on a sensor output can be detected to generate detection information indicating a user operation/input timing, and determine whether or not the user operation/input timing coincides with a corresponding one of the reproduction timings indicated by the time information string. A sound system can reproduce the audio data as is, if both timings coincide with each other. Otherwise, predetermined effects can be added to the audio data or the audio data can be manipulated during reproduction.

A portable terminal (e.g., portable telephone) is constituted using a geomagnetic sensor for detecting an azimuth, and a GPS receiver for detecting a present position thereof. A direction of a prescribed place (e.g., Mecca) is calculated based on the azimuth information and position information, so that the calculated direction is indicated by an arrow displayed on the screen of a display. In addition, a prescribed message is displayed on the screen of the display, or it is produced as preset vocalized sounds by a speaker. After the operator (or driver) of a motorcycle operates turn signals to indicate leftward or rightward turning of the traveling direction, the operator turns the traveling direction while inclining (or banking) the motorcycle. In this case, when the bearing of the motorcycle is varied by a prescribed angle (e.g., 20&deg;) or more after the operator operates the turn signals, and then, the inclination of the motorcycle is restored to the normal position substantially perpendicular to the horizontal plane because the operator completely finishes turning the motorcycle, the turn signals are automatically canceled.

A sound field effect control apparatus and and a sound field effect control method are provided, which are capable of enabling a listener to listen to reflected sounds close to initial reflected sounds generated in an actual acoustic space, by utilizing information reflecting the position of a sound source possessed by multichannel audio source signals. Sound field effects are applied to multichannel audio source signals that are input to a sound field effect control apparatus. The multichannel audio source signals cause sound generated from an imaginary sound source at a predetermined position to be heard by the listener when converted into sound and generated by a plurality of loudspeakers. Multichannel initial reflected sound signals corresponding to initial reflected sounds that will be heard by the listener when the sound is generated from said imaginary sound source at said predetermined position in a predetermined acoustic space, are generated from the multichannel audio source signals.

Sound field effect control apparatus and method

An electronic stringed instrument having a first pickup device and a second pickup device. When any one of the strings is picked at a picking position between the first pickup device and the second pickup device, vibrational waves propagate from the picking position toward both sides of the string. When the advancing waves pass the first and second pickup devices, the first and second pickup devices output electrical signals. A time difference between the electrical signals provided by the first and second pickup devices is calculated to determine the picking position. Note tone color and other tonal parameters are controlled based on the picking position.

There are provided a tone source for generating tone signals in plural channels independently and effect impartment sections, provided in corresponding relations to the channels, for imparting individual effects to the tone signals of the channels generated by the tone source. Each of the effect impartment sections, in accordance with tone control information unique to the tone signal of the corresponding channel, controls a parameter of the effect to be imparted. A music apparatus processes a number of waveforms designated by performance information to concurrently generate the designated number of voices. In the music apparatus, an input section can provide the performance information in repeatable sessions. A computing section can compute a limited number of the waveforms in one session when the performance information is provided by the input section. A memory section memorizes the waveforms computed by the computing section. A controlling section operates in a first session if the designated number exceeds the limited number for controlling the computing section to skip computation of a remaining number of the waveforms while the computed waveforms are memorized in the memory section, and further operates in a second session for controlling the computing section to compute the remaining number of the waveforms. An output section can be enabled to concurrently generate the voices based on the designated number of the waveforms which are partly computed and memorized in the first session and partly computed in the second session.

A first portion of the performance data corresponding to at least one of the plurality of parts in music is read out from the storage device in response to a trigger.
