A waveform memory WM stores fast decay waveform data representative of fast decay waveforms of different levels of strength and slow decay waveform data representative of a slow decay waveform of a strong strength. A CPUcontrols a tone generatorto select at least a waveform data according to the level of strength of a touch from among the plurality of fast decay waveform data to read out the selected waveform data from the top address of the waveform data. In addition, the CPUalso controls the tone generatorto read out the slow decay waveform data, starting at an address placed further away from the top of the slow decay waveform data as the level of strength of the touch decreases. The read fast decay waveform data and the read slow decay waveform data is mixed together to be output.

Apparatus for generating musical tone signals based on mixing different decay waveform data

An electronic musical instrument has a waveform memory, a CPU, a tone generator and a keyboard. The waveform memory stores a plurality of waveforms corresponding to musical parameters such as tone colors. The CPU controls the tone generator to generate musical tone signals in response to key-on and key-off events detected from the keyboard. The CPU detects legato performance when a plurality of keys of the keyboard are consecutively depressed and a key-on event is detected prior to a key-off event of the other key which has been previously depressed. When the legato performance is detected, under the control of the CPU, the waveform data except for the attack portion of the waveform are read out from the waveform memory in response to the key-on events which follow the first key-on event, and the musical tone signals are generated by the tone generator based on the read out waveform data.

Electronic musical instrument capable of legato performance

A waveform generating device applicable to musical tone generating circuitry employed in electronic musical instruments is disclosed. The device digitally stores sampled waveform data. The data is read out and the musical tone having a different pitch is generated according to a pitch-sampling rate asynchronous system. The device includes a storing device which stores sampled waveform data, pitch designation device which outputs a signal indicating the pitch of a musical tone to be generated, readout device which successively reads out the waveform data at a speed which is determined based on the signal, an interpolation device which creates intermediate data, corresponding to a value which exists between two continuous sample data which are read out by device of the readout device, by means of interpolation calculation, and outputs the intermediate data at a fixed sampling cycle, a beginning readout designation device which designates beginning of readout in the readout device, and a readout speed control device, which sets readout speed of the readout device to a faster speed than the speed determined based on the pitch signal for a predetermined period following the designation of the beginning of readout by the beginning readout designation device.

Asynchronous waveform generating device for use in an electronic musical

In a wave form signal generating apparatus designed to memorize a desired wave form in the form of a floating point representation for generating a wave form signal based on the memorized wave form, a mantissa and an exponent of a sampling data of the desired wave form are memorized in a predetermined number of digits as a compressed information, and a digit number of the memorized exponent allotted in the predetermined number of digits are further momorized. The memorized exponent is extracted on a basis of the memorized digit number so that the wave form signal is reproduced on a basis of the extracted exponent and the mantissa allotted in the remaining portion of the predetermined number of digits.

Wave form signal generating apparatus

A data transmission system comprises a transmitter and a plurality of serially connected receivers. The transmitter, when energized, outputs an initialization signal to all of the receivers and also outputs a data of a predetermined value to the first receiver. In response to the initialization signal, the first receiver stores the received data in a register and modifies the received data to output a modified data to the second receiver. The second to last receivers operate in the same manner, so that different data are stored in the respective registers of the receivers. To transmit a given data to a selected one of the receivers, the transmitter outputs the given data with an identification code equal to the data stored in the register of the selected receiver. Although each of the receivers compares the received identification code with the contents of the register, only the selected receiver outputs a coincidence signal and stores the received data into a data utilization circuit thereof. A transmitter of a modified data transmission system outputs a given data together with an identification code which includes a bit of '1' at a bit position corresponding to the position of the selected receiver. Each receiver determines whether the received identification code has a '1' bit at a predetermined bit position, and if the determination is 'YES' the receiver stores the received data in the data utilization circuit thereof. Each receiver also shifts the received identification code and outputs to the next receiver the shifted codes together with the received data.
