A method of producing riboflavin by culturing riboflavin-producing microbes in a culture medium using a plant oil or an animal oil as a carbon source, forming and accumulating riboflavin therein and collecting riboflavin therefrom, wherein a carrier of a clay mineral having oil-adsorbing property, a chemically treated product thereof or a calcium compound is made present in the culture medium. The riboflavin is produced maintaining a high yield and at an increased production rate at a low cost without requiring cumbersome operations for concentrating and recovering the riboflavin. It is further allowed to recover the riboflavin by effectively utilizing the waste plant oil or the waste animal oil that is to be disposed of.

A card connector for an IC card according to the present invention is provided with a preventive wall of an anti-floating mechanism in an ejector mechanism on a substrate, for suppressing the floating-up of the inserted IC card. Also, projections of an erroneous insert prevention mechanism for inhibiting the opposite insert of the card are provided with a sheet metal cover to prevent the IC card from floating up or being erroneously inserted, so that the IC card is not damaged and no short-circuit accident occurs. The card connector for an IC card is constructed into a hollow flat housing formed of a substrate and a metal sheet cover combined therewith, having the anti-floating mechanism for suppressing the floating-up of the IC card and the erroneous insert prevention mechanism for preventing the IC card from being inserted in such a manner that the rear end is directed forward.

A card connector including a base and a sheet metal cover combined with the base to form a flat hollow housing. Also, a plurality of pin-like elongate terminal members extend from an end and lateral walls of the sheet metal cover to be integral with the base, whereby a structure durable against an impact imposed when the housing falls is obtainable as well as the height of the card connector becomes smaller as the market requires.

The present invention provides a card connector which prevents the retainer fitting from coming off even when the molded base plate is deformed during reflow soldering and which can be reduced in size, height and weight. The card connector includes a shell body and a molded base plate. The molded base plate includes at least a card eject mechanism incorporating a compression coil spring for inserting/ejecting a card and a retainer fitting for holding the card eject mechanism pushed by the compression coil spring. The shell body is formed with at least one engagement hole for engagement with at least one hook portion of the retainer fitting. The retainer fitting includes a horizontal member and a vertical member rising vertically from the horizontal member. The horizontal member and/or vertical member have at least one pair of press-fit projections and one hook portion.

One end of the coil spring is held by the support pin of the ejecting member, and the other end of the coil spring is held by the inner surface of the spring seat portion of the metallic cover member.

The base plate of the connector housing is provided with the raised portion that fits into one of the recessed portions in the card for the contact pads when the card is inserted. The raised portion is made to function as a stopper to block the card from being inserted further when the card is wrongly inserted back to front, thereby preventing a possible deformation of the contact terminals on the connector side in the event that the card is wrongly inserted.

One of each pair of metal pieces making up each of the switches SW , SW is formed in the metal upper housing to reduce the number of parts of the switches arranged in the connector and to efficiently arrange these switches in a small space.

The present invention provides a card connector whose molded base plate is not deformed during reflow soldering, thus allowing reductions in size, height and weight of the card connector. The card connector of the invention has a shell body and a molded base plate. The molded base plate includes at least a card eject mechanism having a compression coil spring and adapted to insert and eject a card and a stopper for holding the card eject mechanism pushed by the compression coil spring. The shell body includes at least one bent piece for fixing and supporting the stopper in three-dimensional directions.

A method of directly precipitating a spherical amorphous silica in a high yield by adding a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as a coagulation growing agent in a step of neutralizing the alkali silicate with an acid. The CMC having a particular etherification degree and a particular polymerization degree is added in an amount of from 1 to 100% by weight reckoned as SiO.sub.2 with respect to silica in the alkali silicate, whereby the whole silica particles turn into spherical amorphous silica particles having high sphericalness. There can be obtained spherical amorphous silica particles having a BET specific surface area of from 25 to 800 m.sup.2 /g, an apparent specific gravity of from 0.1 to 0.8 and a particle diameter of from 0.2 to 50 .mu.m cheaply and in a high yield.

Method of producing granular amorphous silica

Disclosed are amorphous silica or silica-alumina spherical particles composed of X-ray diffractometrically substantially amorphous silica or silica-alumina, wherein individual particles have a definite spherical shape and a notched surface, the circularity (A) represented by the following formula: ##EQU1## wherein r1 stands for the radius of the circumcircle of the profile of the particle in an electron microscope photo thereof and r2 stands for the radius of the inscribed circle of the profile of the particle in the electron microscope photo, is in the range of from 0.90 to 1, the notching degree (B) represented by the formula: ##EQU2## wherein .DELTA.t stands for the depth between the peak and trough in the radial direction of notches on the profile of the particle in the electron microscope photo and r1 is as defined above, is in the range of from 1 to 10%, and the primary particle size (2r1) determined by the electron microscope method is in the range of from 0.1 to 20 .mu.m.

The amorphous silica has a large apparent specific gravity despite of its BET specific surface area of 200 to 500 m.sup.2 /g, has an oil absorption amount of as small as 50 to 120 ml/100 g, has an agglomeration degree (D1/D0=DA) defined by the ratio of silica elementary particle diameter D0 to primary particle diameter D1 of from 10 to 50, and has nearly a spherical particulate structure which is quite different from that of the conventional gelation method silica (DA=OO). The amorphous silica-type filler exhibits excellent properties in regard to handling, processability, dispersion property and abrasion-resistant property and, when added as, for example, an anti-blocking agent, makes it possible to obtain resin films having transparency and scratch-resistant property without fisheyes or voids. Owing to the above properties, the amorphous silica that is used as a filler for the heat-sensitive recording papers suppresses ground fogging, improves the image concentration, makes it possible to apply a highly viscous coating solution since the filler dispersed in an aqueous solution creates very small viscosity, and imparts excellent abrasion resistance to the apparatus during the step of coating.

A porous and spherical silica is recovered in high yields from a neutralized product of an alkali silicate obtained by using an acrylamide type polymer as a coagulation growing agent, and the above silica is reacted as a precursor with a metal compound of the Group II of periodic table in an aqueous medium to obtain amorphous or fine, laminar and crystalline porous and spherical silica or silicate granules having a high degree of true sphericality, a symmetrical grain size distribution and a refractive index over a range of from 1.4 to 1.7. The porous and spherical granules have a primary grain diameter of 0.3 to 30 .mu.m as observed through an electron microscope, have an apparent specific gravity of from 0.05 to 0.5 g/ml, and are cheaply obtained in high yields, and can hence be used as a filler for various paints and resins. In particularly, the granules excellently disperse in the resins, have a refractive index close to those of the resins, are not crushed during the kneading with resins or extrusion, or do not damage the apparatus. The films obtained by using these granules exhibit very excellent transparency, anti-blocking property and scar resistance. Moreover, the porous and spherical zinc phyllosilicate type granules having fine grain sizes and symmetrical grain size distributions, are excellent in their odor scavenging property and sweat controlling property.

Disclosed is an alumina-silica resin additive consisting of amorphous alumina-silica particles in which a definite cubic or spherical shape is retained in primary particles and the particle sizes of both the primary particles and the secondary particles are controlled to very small values. This additive is excellent in dispersibility in a resin, non-blowing property, slip characteristic and anti-blocking property. A product obtained by surface-treating the amorphous alumina-silica particles with a certain amount of an organic lubricant is very valuable as a filler.
