A fluid scroll machine whose movable scroll is balanced with a simple construction to decrease the weight and cost of the machine. Counterweights are attached to the peripheral portion of the movable scroll, and the thickness of the engaged portion of the scroll is reduced at the part of the portion, which does not participate in the compression of gas in the machine, so that the scroll is balanced with regard to the rotation thereof. The counterweights are attached to the movable scroll to increase the total mass thereof to balance the scroll. The thickness of the part of the engaged portion of the scroll is reduced to decrease the total mass thereof to balance the scroll. Therefore, the counterweights can be made relatively small.

A sealing device for an oil rotary vacuum pump of the type which includes a rotor, a cylinder for accommodating the rotor, the cylinder having a suction port and a discharge port, an end cover provided at one end of the cylinder, a rotary shaft of the rotor passing the end cover, an oil casing attached to the end cover such that it encloses the cylinder, the oil casing containing oil, an interior of the oil casing above the oil forming a space portion, and a bearing provided in the end cover so as to rotatably support the rotary shaft of the rotor. The sealing device includes: a pair of sealing members mounted on a rotary shaft of the rotor and provided in the end cover, the sealing members being disposed separately from each other so as to form a gap portion therebetween, the pair of sealing members being located on the side of the bearing which is remote from the rotor; an oil reservoir portion formed between the bearing and the sealing member closer to the rotor in the pair of sealing members; a first passage for connecting the oil reservoir portion with the interior of the cylinder which is in the vicinity of the discharge port thereof; a lubricant disposed in the gap portion between the pair of sealing members; and a second passage for connecting the gap portion between the pair of sealing members and the space portion in the oil casing.

A liquid-seal type motor comprising a cylindrical frame, a stator fixed inside the frame, a can placed at the inner circumferential side of the stator, a pair of end plates placed at both ends of and between the frame and the can to be sealingly connected thereto to thereby form an insulating oil enclosing part in which the stator is confined, a pair of brackets connected to the pair of the end plates respectively and a rotor placed in the can to be journaled by the brackets. The can, the brackets and the rotor define a lubricating oil enclosing part. A pressure adjusting means has a flexible member for sealingly defines the insulating oil enclosing part into two parts and an oil volume reducing member is provided in the insulating oil enclosing part.

A liquid-seal type motor comprising a cylindrical frame, a stator fixed inside the frame, a can placed at the inner circumferential side of the stator, a pair of end plates placed at both ends of and between the frame and a can to be sealingly connected thereto to thereby form an insulating oil enclosing part in which the stator is confined, a pair of brackets connected to the pair of the end plates respectively and a rotor placed in the can to be journaled by the brackets, a lubricating oil enclosing part being defined by the can, brackets and rotor wherein a flexible pressure adjusting means is placed in the insulating oil enclosing part to sealingly define the interior of the part into two chambers.

In an encased electric motor within a casing, an electrically insulating varnish is applied by vacuum impregnation to the inside surfaces of the casing and to the outer surface of the stator of the motor. The remaining empty space within the casing is filled with a heat conducting gas mixture comprising approximately 60-90% by volume of helium, with the remaining percentage being an electrically insulating gas having better electrically insulating properties than helium, such as sulphur hexafluoride. This encased motor is much lighter than conventional encased motors in which the stator enclosure is filled with a heat conducting resin potting compound and avoids warping damage which frequently occurs in conventional encased motors due to thermal expansion of the heat conducting resin potting compound.

A shaft seal device for a submersible motor, comprising a seal box which is provided at an end part of a case of the motor; a pair of lip type shaft sealing members which are disposed between an inner surface of said seal box and a rotary shaft of the motor and whose lips are arranged so as to inwardly face each other with a spacing therebetween; a lubricant which is stored in an interspace defined between said shaft sealing member; an auxiliary refuse remover which adjoins an outer side of one of said shaft sealing members and which is snugly inserted between the inner surface of an end part of said seal box and the rotary shaft of the motor, said auxiliary refuse remover being composed of a fitting and a soft material member which is received in said fitting and which is snugly positioned on the rotary shaft of the motor; and another refuse remover which is disposed so as to adjoin an outer side of said auxiliary refuse remover.
