A method of manufacturing a shadow mask assembly, in which a shadow mask is fastened to a support frame in a tensioned state, includes applying a preliminary tension force with a magnitude of 9.8 to 490 N to the four corners of the shadow mask outwardly aslant with respect to sides of the shadow mask. A main tension force is then applied to each of at least a pair of mutually opposite sides of the shadow mask outwardly perpendicularly to the sides. Thereafter, the shadow mask to which the main tension forces have been applied is fastened to the frame side of the support frame.

A welding route of welding a color selecting electrode to a frame is as follows: first of all, a welding head moves down onto one end portion of a long frame side (Step I), welding is conducted from the end portion toward a center portion of the long frame side (Step II). Then, after moving up once (Step III), the welding head moves horizontally toward the other end portion of the long frame side (Step IV) and moves down onto the long frame side (Step V), and welding is conducted from the other end portion toward a center portion of the long frame side (Step VI). Finally, the welding head retracts (Step VII). With this welding route, the generation of wrinkles in the vicinity of the end portions of the long sides of the color selecting electrode can be suppressed.

Method of securing shadow mask and frame in the manufacture of a cathode ray tube

A vibration damping member penetrates through two mounting apertures provided in a shadow mask with tension applied thereto, so as to be attached to the shadow mask in a freely movable state. The vibration damping member has two penetrating portions each passing loosely through one of the two mounting apertures and a bridge portion linking these portions. A protrusion protruding toward the shadow mask is provided in the bridge portion of the vibration damping member. This configuration regulates a tilted angle of the vibration damping member with respect to the face of the shadow mask, thus preventing a phenomenon in which a bending portion is caught by the edge of the mounting aperture so that the vibration damping member is pinned by the shadow mask. As a result, the freely movable state of the vibration damping member can be kept always, and therefore vibrations of the shadow mask can be dampened effectively and a color cathode ray tube with reduced color displacement can be provided.

An electrophotographic apparatus capable of editing a copy picture image includes a document table for mounting a document thereon and a document irradiator for irradiating a surface of the document, and an optical system for focusing the reflected image from the surface of the document onto a photosensitive body so as to produce a latent image thereon. A photosensitive body irradiator is further provided for directly and selectively irradiating at least a part of the photosensitive body to erase a part of the latent image on the irradiated part of the photosensitive body. The resultant latent image is then developed in the usual fashion to form a visible image on a plain sheet. A position and function selector is provided separately from the document table and includes a tablet for first mounting the document thereon prior to the document being mounted on the document table and further includes a pen arranged such that a position on the tablet is detected by an access of the pen. The tablet is divided into a position selecting area and a function selecting area. Lastly, a controller is provided for controlling the document irradiator and the photosensitive body irradiator in accordance with signals from the position and function.
