A battery capable of improving high-temperature characteristics is provided. The battery includes a cathode, an anode and an electrolytic solution. A separator provided between the cathode and the anode is impregnated with the electrolytic solution. A solvent of the electrolytic solution includes a main solvent such as a cyclic carbonate which includes halogen and a sub solvent such as carbonate dimer.

A secondary battery capable of improving high-temperature characteristics is provided. The secondary battery includes a cathode, an anode and an electrolytic solution. A separator provided between the cathode and the anode is impregnated with the electrolytic solution. A solvent of the electrolytic solution includes a main solvent such as a cyclic carbonate which includes halogen and a sub solvent such as carbonate dimer.

An electrolytic solution for a secondary battery is provided. The electrolyte solution includes an electrolyte salt; and a solvent including a first solvent and a second solvent; wherein the first solvent includes 4-fluoro-1,3-dioxolane-2-one; and wherein the second solvent includes at least one of Chemical Formula No. 23, Chemical Formula No. 24, or Chemical Formula No. 25.

A cathode active material capable of obtaining a high capacity and capable of improving stability or low-temperature characteristics, a method of manufacturing the same, and a battery are provided. A cathode () includes a cathode active material including a lithium complex oxide including Li and at least one kind selected from the group consisting of Co, Ni and Mn, and P and at least one kind selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co, Mn, Fe, Al, Mg and Zn as coating elements on a surface of the lithium complex oxide. Preferably, the contents of the coating elements are higher on the surface of the cathode active material than those in the interior thereof, and decrease from the surface to the interior.

Further, x is designated by an expression of 0.9&#x2266;x&#x3c;1, y is indicated by an expression of 0.001&#x2266;y&#x2266;0.5, z is indicated by an expression of 0&#x2266;z&#x2266;0.5, and m is indicated by an expression of 0.5&#x2266;m) and lithium manganese oxide expressed by a general formula LiMnMaO(here, the value of s is expressed by 0.9&#x2266;s, the value of t is located within a range expressed by 0.01&#x2266;t&#x2266;0.5, and Ma indicates one or a plurality of elements between Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Al, Sn, Cr, V, Ti, Mg, Ca, Sr, B, Ga, In, Si and Ge) are included, so that both a large capacity and the suppression of the rise of temperature of a battery upon overcharging operation are achieved.
