An electro-hydraulic power steering apparatus in which a control device, a motor and a pump are integrated. The apparatus includes a first housing, a second housing, a control device surrounded by the first and second housings, a motor disposed on a side of the first housing and a pump disposed on a side of the second housing. The motor includes a rotor, a stator and a frame. The rotor has a first bearing supported by the first housing. The frame includes an inner circumferential face into which a stator core is press fitted and receives a second bearing of the rotor. The frame is secured to the first housing by a first clamp screw. The first housing and the second housing are secured by a second clamp screw. The first and second clamp screws are tightened from the hand of the frame.

Electro-hydraulic power steering apparatus

A vehicle electro-hydraulic power steering unit includes: a steering mechanism steering a steering wheel in a steering direction; an electro-hydraulic pump; a piston mechanism assisting the steering mechanism in a steering direction; a hydraulic circuit causing an assist force to be generated in response to the steering of the steering mechanism; and a control unit controlling a motor based on an output signal from a vehicle speed sensor, a torque sensor, and a steering angle sensor. In this power steering unit, driving the motor is started when a steering torque exceeds a set torque threshold, and the torque threshold to be set is changed depending on operating conditions. Thus, a vehicle electro-hydraulic power steering unit improved in fuel consumption is obtained.

A motor for an electric power steering assembly comprises permanent magnets constituting four or more poles secured to the inner wall of a yoke, a shaft disposed inside the yoke so as to be able to rotate freely, an armature secured to the shaft having a winding composed of wiring wound by a lap winding method into slots formed on the outer circumferential surface of a core so as to extend in the axial direction thereof, a commutator comprising a plurality of commutator segments secured to an end portion of the shaft, brushes disposed singly on the positive side and the negative side of the commutator so as to contact the surface thereof; and equalizing connectors connecting commutator segments which should have the same electric potential to each other.

A magnetic particle-type electromagnetic coupling apparatus is cooled by a plurality of heat pipes which are partially embedded in the outer periphery of a rotating coupling member near the portion of the coupling member which is in contact with magnetic particles during operation. Heat is removed from the coupling member by a working fluid which is sealed within the heat pipes and is dissipated to the atmosphere through cooling fins attached to the heat pipes.

A torque limited of permanent magnet coupling type is disclosed, in which the value of transmitted torque is varied from a near zero minimum to a maximum. The torque limiter comprises a disk of magnetic material fixed to the output cylinder, and a pair of annular members disposed on both axial sides of the disk with small gaps filled with a powder of magnetic material. The annular members are rotatably supported on the output cylinder. An annular disk-shaped permanent magnet is fixed to one of the annular members at the side surface thereof opposite to the surface facing the disk. Further, an annular disk-shaped plate of magnetic material having an outer diameter greater than that of the permanent magnet is fixed on the outer side surface of the permanent magnet projecting radially from the outer circumferential surface of the permanent magnet. A tube-shaped adjustment member is axially slidable on the outer circumferential surface of a ring of non-magnetic material fitted into the opposing steps formed on the outer circumferential surfaces of the annular members, forming small gaps between the inner circumferential surface of reduced diameter portion thereof and the outer circumferential surfaces of the pair of annular members, and between the inner circumferential surface of increased diameter portion thereof and the outer circumferential surface of the annular disk-shaped plate.

An electromagnetic coupling transmits torque between a first and a second relatively rotatable rotary member through the use of magnetically solidified magnetic particles between the air gap defined between the rotary members. The coupling comprises a plurality of cooling fins on the outer periphery of the outer rotary member opposite to the inner pole face of the member, thereby efficiently cooling undesired heat generated in the magnetic particles.
