A lock arm () is provided on the upper surface of a female housing () and can pivot about hinge pieces (). Further, an unlock arm () for releasing a locked state by the lock arm () is provided on the upper surface to pivot in the same direction with supporting legs () as a pivot point. A housing-side preventing portion () extends in forward and backward directions through a clearance between the supporting legs (). Arm-side preventing portions () project at corresponding positions of the unlock arm () while extending in forward and backward directions. The arm-side preventing portions () and the housing-side preventing portion () contact each other at positions forward or rearward of the supporting legs () when the unlock arm () is pivoted in either direction, thereby preventing excessive deformation of the unlock arm () in both directions.

Connector

An unlocking jig () is fit on a female housing () from below. As a result, a guide groove (A) on a bottom portion () of the unlocking jig () engages a convexity (C) on a lower surface of the female housing () and a guide groove (B) on an arm () engages a convexity (B) on a side surface of the female housing (). The unlocking jig () has unlocking claws (a, a) that engage short locking pieces (B,C) when the unlocking jig () is moved and unlock the short locking pieces (B,C) from locks (B,C) on the housing ().

Unlocking jig

A lock () is provided at the leading end of a resiliently deformable lock arm () on a female housing () and engages an engaging portion () on a male housing (). An unlocking arm () is provided separate from the lock arm () and is resiliently inclinable like a seesaw. Projecting pieces () are formed on opposite surfaces of the lock () and unlocking pieces () on the unlocking arm () face the backsides of the projecting pieces (). An operable portion () of the unlocking arm () is pressed to incline the unlocking arm () so that the unlocking pieces () lift the lock () of the lock arm (), thereby canceling a locked state.

Connector locking construction

A female housing () has a resiliently deformable lock arm (), whereas a male housing () is provided with an interlocking portion (). During the connection of the two housings (), the lock arm () is temporarily deformed while being held in sliding contact with the interlocking portion (). When the two housings () are properly connected, the lock arm () is restored resiliently to engage the interlocking portion (). A front surface () of the interlocking portion () to face the lock arm () during a connecting process is arcuate. Thus, only a widthwise middle () of the interlocking portion () slides in contact with the lock arm () during a connecting operation.

A male housing () includes male terminal fittings (), and a receptacle () for surrounding tabs () of the male terminal fittings (). A female housing () includes female terminal fittings () and a tubular fitting () fittable on the receptacle (). Since preventing projections (A,B,C) for preventing relative displacements of the receptacle () and the tubular fitting () by contacting the outer surface of the receptacle () are provided at the back end of the inner surface of the tubular fitting (), an abrasion between the terminal fittings () due to fine sliding movements resulting from the relative displacements of the two housings () can be prevented.

A watertight connector has a housing () with terminal fittings () therein. A busbar element () is mounted on the front of the housing () to short the terminal fittings (). The busbar element () engages engageable portions () formed by a mold removing space () in the housing (). A rubber plug () and a plug holder () are assembled with the housing () by engaging locks () on the plug holder () with the housing (). The locks () are inserted into the mold removing spaces (). The locks () and the engageable portions () overlap in width and/or height directions to miniaturize the watertight connector.

Watertight connector

A housing () has a terminal-holding part () for holding terminal fittings (). Two sidewalls () extend rearward from the terminal-holding part (), and substrate-fixing parts () project out from outer surfaces of the sidewalls (). Screws (N) are used to fix the substrate-fixing parts () to a substrate (). An alignment plate () is mounted between the sidewalls () and has opening-preventing walls () locked to the sidewalls () to prevent the side walls () from being elastically opened as the screws (N) are tightened.

A female housing () has cavities () for receiving female terminal fittings (). A lock () is provided in each cavity () and is deformed by insertion of the female terminal fitting (). However the lock () is restored resiliently to engage and lock the female terminal fitting () in the cavity (). Maneuverable recesses () are provided on the front surface of each lock () retracted from the locked terminal fitting (). A disengagement jig () can be engaged with the maneuverable recesses () to deflect the lock () so that the terminal fitting () can be removed from the cavity ().

Connector, a disengagement jig and a method

On a front end surface of a male housing, a columnar sealing projection is formed for a projected portion of each of the male terminals. A sealing member having through-holes formed thereon is formed integrally with a rear surface of a front plate of a holder. When the holder is mounted on a female housing, a contact surface of the sealing member is pressed against the front end surface of the female housing. When the female housing is connected to the male housing, the inner peripheral surfaces of the through-holes of the sealing member closely contact the peripheral surfaces of the sealing projections with the sealing projections breaking the lips of the sealing member.

Waterproof connector

A connector has a housing () with a cavity () and a resiliently deformable lock () in the cavity (). The connector further has a terminal fitting () that can be inserted into the cavity (). The insertion of the terminal fitting () deforms the lock (). However, the lock () restores when the terminal fitting () is inserted completely, and locks the terminal fitting in the cavity (). The terminal fitting () and the cavity () are formed with mutually engageable structures () for preventing inclination of the terminal fitting () in the deforming direction of the lock ().

Connector, a terminal fitting and a method for inserting a terminal fitting

A connector housing ( ) has a cavity ( ) and a resiliently deformable lock ( ) cantilevers forwardly from a wall ( ) of the cavity ( ) for engaging a locking surface ( ) of a terminal fitting ( ) inserted into the cavity ( ). A base end of the lock ( ) has a thinned portion ( ). A backward pulling force on the female terminal fitting ( ) creates a compressive force on the lock ( ) in the longitudinal direction. Thus, the lock ( ) undergoes such a resilient deformation at the thinned portion ( ) that the length (L ) of the lock ( ) becomes shorter than its natural length (L ). Buckling strength is enhanced by as much as the lock ( ) is shortened and, as a result, a force for locking the female terminal fitting ( ) is enhanced.

Connector with lock piece that longitudinally deforms

A female housing ( ) has cavities ( ) into which female terminal fittings ( ) are insertable from behind. A lock ( ) projects forward from its base end and is restorable after being temporarily resiliently deformed by the female terminal fitting ( ) being inserted, thereby engaging and locking the female terminal fitting ( ) in the cavity ( ). Maneuverable recesses ( ) maneuverable by a disengagement jig ( ) from front are provided at positions on the front surface of each lock ( ) retracted from the locked terminal fitting ( ) and within a width range of a locking surface of the lock ( ) engageable with the terminal fitting ( ) and located more toward the base end of the locking portion than the locking surface.

Selectively mounted on a mounting concavity ( ) of a switch-side connector ( ) having a switch terminal ( ) projected therefrom is a first attachment ( ) having a connector fit-on part ( ) and a terminal insertion part ( ) disposed orthogonally to the connector fit-on part ( ) or a second attachment ( ) having a connector fit-on part ( ) and a terminal insertion part ( ) disposed in an approximately straight line. By fitting a mating electric wire-side connector on the connector fit-on part ( ) of the first attachment ( ), an electric wire can be pulled out in the shape of a letter &ldquo;L&rdquo; from the switch-side connector ( ). By fitting the electric wire-side connector on the connector fit-on part ( ) of the second attachment ( ), the electric wire can be pulled out upward and straight from the switch-side connector ( ).
