A control method and a wind turbine for adaptively adjusting the operation of the wind turbine to maintain maximum power production during degraded conditions. The control system has an estimator module that determines a scaling factor based on the current set of control signals and at least the current set of measurement of the operating parameters. The scaling factor is transmitted to a control module which scales at least one aerodynamic property of the rotor based on this scaling factor. The control module further determines the ideal settings for the control signals based on the scaled aerodynamic properties. The present control method scales the aerodynamic properties to provide a better representation of the actual degraded aerodynamic properties.

Method for operating a wind turbine based on degradation of wind turbine blade

An Adaptive Stochastic Queueing device comprises a process that maintains a plurality of queues defined around the known and changing resource usage history of an ensemble of customers, customers seeking access to a resource. Applying a stochastic approach that reflects the history of each customer in reference to the ensemble history, the queues intercept and sort customers. A stochastic sequencer sequences customers from the queues to the resource in a manner that selectively promotes customers in a manner attuned to the application using the device.

Adaptive stochastic queueing

A spatial correlation system and method is disclosed to infer and anticipate the environmental and other conditions of an energy park from individual energy collector information. Individual collector information is acquired and formatted into a pixelized image according to the spatial location of the collector. Image processing and other spatial correlating algorithms are applied to generate spatially correlated descriptions of the energy park. The descriptions are of the current and anticipated conditions. The collectors are made to respond to the descriptions in order to maximize energy collection, avoid disruptive conditions, and reduce stress loading. The system combines locally acquired collection information in a manner that replaces costly collector instrumentation.

Spatial information correlation for control of an energy park

The present invention relates to a stereoscopic three dimensional visualization system, and particularly to a stereoscopic three dimensional visualization system for microdentistry, microsurgery, or industrial applications. In one exemplary embodiment, the present invention provides a plurality of cameras configured to provide a first stereoscopic image to a dentist or other professional and a second stereoscopic image to an assistant that has approximately the same focal point, but that is rotated by a predetermined angle from the first stereoscopic image. In one exemplary embodiment three cameras are utilized to create the stereoscopic images.

A system for tracking a structure relative to the sun using an azimuth motor and an elevation motor, the system including an ephemeris calculator configured to output an anticipated azimuth angle and an anticipated zenith angle of the sun relative to the structure geographic location at a given time, a command calculator configured to generate an azimuth motor shaft position command corresponding to the anticipated azimuth angle and an elevation motor shaft position command corresponding to the anticipated zenith angle, an azimuth control loop configured to minimize a difference between the azimuth motor shaft position command and the actual azimuth motor shaft position, and an elevation control loop configured to minimize a difference between the elevation motor shaft position command and the actual elevation motor shaft position.

Object detection and recognition system

A metabolism monitoring system, data analyzer, and method is disclosed for processing data to very quickly estimate metabolic parameters. The analyzer of the invention uses a dynamic observer state estimator to estimate the parameters and tracks their values as they change with alterations in the patient metabolism or testing conditions. The state estimator does not use the conventional steady state solutions. The observer predicts the patient consumption of oxygen and exhalation of carbon dioxide at a subsequent point in time, corrects these values using measurements of air flow rate and chamber levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide taken at that subsequent time, and repeats for the next time. The corrected values are used for estimation of the metabolic parameters.

Dynamic metabolism monitoring system

A turbine control system for a variable speed electrical generator in a wind turbine mounted atop a support tower. The wind turbine converts wind energy into a driving torque applied to the generator. The control system includes a turbine support tower position sensor and may also include other tower acceleration and velocity sensors. A wind flow estimator uses the measured motion, generator rotation rate and blade pitch angle to predict wind flow over the swept area of the turbine's rotor, and the tower motion. The predicted wind flow and motion is used in the turbine control system to properly adjust its operating point, to tune the controller, to control the rotor rotation rate, and to damp tower oscillations.

Wind flow estimation and tracking using tower dynamics

Energy for in-tire use is generated from the load induced reciprocating deflection of the tire inner walls above the tire-to-road contact patch adjacent to the shoulder of the tire. This energy is used to power in-tire monitoring electronics. For pulsatile energy generation with capacitive capture, the capacitor is optimally selected in real-time as a function of pulse width to maximize energy capture, or as a function of the pulse-captured energy. The resulting energy pulses are also used to measure the time duration of the contact patch from which the contact patch length is determined thus providing real-time tire geometry and, with tire pressure, real time tire load and, with temperature, tire air molar content. The loads on all tires provide real time vehicle mass and mass distribution. For electrical energy generation, magnet-coil, piezo-electric, and other power conversions are applicable. For non-electric energy generation, fluid bellows, rotary pump, and other power conversions are applicable. Further, run flat tires are designed with a cutout to accommodate and protect electronic devices mounted on an inner surface when running flat.

Apparatus and method for energy generation within a tire

Noninvasive in vivo real time analyte measurement uses a multitude of sensors binding reversibly to the analyte whereby the response of the sensors to a noninvasive stimulus is altered by their bound versus unbound state. The stimulus and responses are electromagnetic, magnetic or any other suitable forms. The sensors are bound to a blood component providing transport through the body fluids and sensor elimination. A sensor is constructed from proteins or as a nanodevice. A noninvasive device generates the stimulus, senses the responses, determines the measurement, and controls a medication infusion pump. A non-contact device is used for population screening, and one form of such a device is a nuclear magnetic resonance imager. Measurement in fluids other than blood uses a blood component flowing out of blood and into the desired fluid.

Apparatus and method for noninvasive monitoring of analytes in body fluids

A music system including a musical instrument, such as a keyboard strummer, in which the musical notes produced by the playing of the instrument are controlled by musical assistance data mapped unto the instrument keys and strum vanes from tracks specially prepared and synchronized with a prior performance of the piece. Modified mass media, such as CD ROM, TV signals and video cassettes are provided including synchronized note assist data and additional media, such as ROM packs or tone encoded audio cassettes or CDs, are provided with synchronizable note assist data for use with unmodified mass media.

Note assisted musical instrument system and method of operation

A novel method and apparatus utilizing conventional photo-reactive and reflective layers of a recording medium for optically recording and reading both digital and variable length, analog pulses of data, in an exacting manner to eliminate excess energy absorption by the medium and for reducing latent recording errors due to defects in the recording medium as well as due to the recording process itself. With this precise recording and reading technique, analog variable-length pulse recording, with its inherent wide bandwidth, as well as coded digital pulse recording, with its inherent narrow bandwidth, can be accommodated. The system monitors the optical transmissivity and reflectivity of the recording medium during the recording process in real time to accurately determine initial and terminal inflection points denoting inception and end of a recorded pulse in an exacting manner and to pinpoint and make allowances for recording defects which may yet yield errors on playback. A residual error reduction technique complements the variable pulse recording process by detecting and temporarily storing data and respective address at which data could not be accurately recorded due to chemical or physical anomalies in the recording medium.

Null inflection detection and pulse expand latch in an optical recording

A cell feeder/harvester assembly including a primary platform with at least one recessed culture vessel holding area whereon two pipet tip racks, one for holding sterile pipet tips and the other rack for collecting used pipet tips, and an array of culture vessels are supported. An X assembly extends transversely across the primary platform and is driven longitudinally thereover, the X assembly having a Y assembly, including a secondary platform, disposed thereon which is adapted to be driven transversely over the X assembly, wherein both the X assembly and the Y assembly move so as to position a Z assembly, which is attached to a top of the secondary platform, over a select pair of culture vessels on opposite sides of the secondary platform. The Z assembly is adapted to service all culture vessels on the primary platform, without the need for manual or individualized directing, by removing waste products and adding necessary chemicals to the individual culture vessels. The Z assembly includes a cover remover and nurturing assembly which is adapted to remove the cover from the culture vessel which is being serviced and subsequently distribute chemicals to the uncovered culture vessel, via a sterile pipet tip. After servicing the particular culture vessel, the used pipet tip is disposed of in the collecting rack and a new, sterile pipet tip is replaced on the nurturing assembly. The functioning of the servicing procedures being completely computer controlled such that all culture vessels are given their necessary specialized servicing.

Cell feeder/harvester assembly

An automated multi-purpose utility water meter readout system. The disclosed system obtains water usage information from an existing water meter without any modifications or attachments to the meter. The device needs only to be located in proximity to the water meter and obtains water flow information by sensing the magnetic flux lines generated by the internal rotating coupling magnets of the water meter. The varying magnetic flux is converted to a periodic electrical signal whose frequency is proportional to the flow rate. The instantaneous flow is continually totalized and stored in a solid-state counter, from which the totalized flow information is periodically transmitted to a remote receiver by a standard, well-proven radio frequency telemetry link. The remote receiver stores data from multiple meters (up to 10,000) and periodically sends the data to the data processing office by means of telephone lines, CATV cable, or RF link. As an option, the system offers a feature that can provide direct benefits to the water user, i.e. an interface unit located in the user's residence receives water use data from the meter and displays this data to aid in water conservation and provide warnings of water leaks. The disclosed system is optionally powered by a novel solid-state thermoelectric generator which converts ambient thermal energy to electrical energy and provides an operational life that far exceeds the economic life of the device.

Automated remote water meter readout system

A system for optically recording information on a recording medium, such as a video disk, by pulse-code modulation (PCM). The medium includes a reflective and radiation-sensitive recordable stratum which changes optically in accordance with the signal being recorded. The signal is recorded on the medium by a slaved coherent light light beam whose intensity is controlled by the recording medium itself. The recording medium controls the recording beam power in a manner to reduce dropouts to a minimum and to assure fidelity in the recorded signal throughout a predetermined range of surface speeds of the medium despite irregularities in the recording stratum.
