The present application provides hydrogel microcapsules, particularly, canonized hydrogel microcapsules having improved substantivity. This application further relates to the use of hydrogel microcapsules for delivering encapsulated actives in a wide range of industries and applications including: agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics industry, personal care products, laundering detergents, homecare & cleaning products, dish washing detergents, oral care, dental care, textiles, paper, mining, oil industry, water treatment, adhesives, coatings, plastics, sealants, construction, paints, inks and dyes onto different substrate surfaces such as skin, hair, textiles.

Hydrogel microcapsules

The present application describes a microcapsule comprising: (i) a lipophilic core material, and (ii) a microcapsule shell, wherein microcapsule shell formed from oil-in-water emulsion polymerisation of monomer mixture consisting essentially of: (a) greater than 70 to about 99% by weight of at least one polyfunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomer, (b) about 1 to about 30% by weight of at least one unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer or its ester, and (c) about 0 to about 30% by weight of at least one vinyl monomer. Also provides process for preparing the same and its method of use in various applications.

Polymeric particles comprising a polymeric matrix that has been formed from a blend of monomers comprising a first monomer which is an ethylenically unsaturated ionic monomer and a second monomer which is an ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer which is capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 50&#xb0; C., wherein secondary particles are distributed throughout the matrix, in which the secondary particles comprise a hydrophobic polymer that has been formed from an ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer which is capable of forming a homopolymer of glass transition temperature in excess of 50&#xb0; C. and optionally other monomers, which hydrophobic polymer is different from the polymeric matrix. Also claimed is a process for preparing particles. The particles have improved shatter resistance. Preferably the polymeric particles comprise an active ingredient, especially a colorant. Such particles combine improved shatter resistance with the ability to retain the active ingredient. The particles of the invention can be used in a variety of industrial applications, for instance in the manufacture of inks, paper and cosmetics.

Polymeric particles

The present invention related to (micro-or nano-) capsules that have two different functional groups on the outer shell of the particles that allow deposition onto the textile surfaces (i.e. exhibit substantivity) and subsequent covalent bonding of the particles onto the textile (i.e. are reactive towards the fiber).

Capsules

A microcapsule comprising a core containing a hydrophobic liquid or wax within a polymeric shell, in which solid particles insoluble in the hydrophobic liquid or wax are distributed throughout the core, wherein an oil soluble dispersant polymer is adhered to the surface of the solid insoluble particles. Processes of obtaining the microcapsules and dispersions of microcapsules in a liquid are claimed. The microcapsules can be used in a variety of applications particularly in the field of thermal energy storage. Suitably the microcapsules can be designed to have a particular density and can be used in the transfer fluids where the density of the microcapsules are the same as the carrier fluid.

Microcapsules, their use and processes for their manufacture

The invention relates to an electrophoretic display, comprising electrodes and cells containing at least one kind of ionic, monochrome particles, a non-polar liquid and a dispersant, wherein the ionic, monochrome particles of at least one kind are essentially aggregates consisting of a carbon containing pigment and a cationic pigment orcationic pigment derivative, and the dispersantis selected from the group consisting of polyacrylates, polyesters, polyurethanes and copolymers, with the proviso that the cationic pigment or cationic pigment derivative is not a reaction product of carbonblack with diazotated procaine hydrochloride. The present invention relates to personal care or cosmetic compositions that contain a shatter-resistant blend of microencapsulated colorants that can produce a natural, textured tone effect. A method for cosmetic treatment comprises application of such personal care or cosmetic compositions onto at least a part of the body.

A particulate composition comprising particles which consist of a shell wall surrounding a hydrophilic core, wherein the shell wall is formed from a polymeric coacervate and wherein the particles comprise a polymeric amphipathic stabiliser. Also claimed is a process of producing a particulate composition comprising particles which consist of a shell wall surrounding a hydrophilic core, comprising the steps of a) forming an aqueous liquid that contains a wall building material that is capable of forming the shell wall by coacervation, b) dispersing the aqueous liquid into a water immiscible liquid, which comprises a stabilising substance to form a dispersion that comprises aqueous droplets dispersed in a continuous phase of water immiscible liquid, c) subjecting the dispersion to coacervation conditions, such that the wall building material coacervates at the surface of the aqueous doplets, characterised in that the stabilising substance comprises a polymeric amphipathic stabiliser. Preferably the particulate composition obtainable by the process contains an active ingredient and is used in a detergent composition. The active ingredient preferably comprises any of detergency building ingredients, a buffering system and/or a sequesterant and/or detergent builder. Citric acid is a particularly preferred active ingredient.

Process for making polymeric particles

Disclosed are methods and related compositions for altering the physical and chemical properties of a substrate used in hydrocarbon exploitation, such as in downhole drilling operations. In a preferred embodiment a method involves formulating a fluid, tailored to the specific drilling conditions, that contains one or more inactivated enzymes. Preferably the enzyme is inactivated by encapsulation in a pH responsive material. After the fluid has been introduced into the well bore, one or more triggering signals, such as a change in pH, is applied to the fluid that will activate or reactivate the inactivated enzyme, preferably by causing it to be released by the encapsulation material. The reactivated enzyme is capable of selectively acting upon a substrate located downhole to bring about the desired change in the chemical or physical properties of the substrate.

Particles

Particles have a hydrophilic core, for instance including an enzyme and a polymer, surrounded by a shell formed by interfacial condensation polymerisation in the presence of a polymeric stabilizer. Preferably the polymeric stabilizer is a random copolymer which will concentrate at the interface between oil and water and association by ionic interaction, condensation or otherwise is achieved between the stabilizer and one of the reactants before reaction with the other reactant. Dispersions of aqueous capsules in an aqueous medium are also disclosed.

Particles having a polymeric shell and their production

A polymeric amphipathic stabiliser is formed of hydrophobic monomer units and hydrophilic monomer units which comprise carboxylic free acid or acid salt units and glycidyl or anhydride units. The glycidyl or anhydride units react onto reactive groups on polymer particles when dispersed in non-aqueous liquid and provide improved stability when the particles are subsequently dispersed in liquid electrolyte.
