A method of and apparatus for reducing smoke emitted from a diesel engine are disclosed. The apparatus comprises: a trap for trapping black smoke particles which is disposed within the exhaust system of the engine, the trap including a ceramic trap assembly having a honeycomb structure in which a catalyst which enables lowering of the combustion temperature of black smoke is carried on internal passage walls; a pressure sensor provided at the inlet of the trap; an engine speed sensor; a butterfly valve provided in the intake system of the engine; and a combination of a controller and an actuator for the butterfly valve. In this apparatus and method the controller obtains a specified exhaust pressure range in the trap on the basis of a signal from the engine speed sensor, compares an exhaust pressure signal from the pressure sensor with the specified exhaust pressure range, and controls the actuator so that the actuator controls the degree of opening of the butterfly valve so that the exhaust pressure inside the trap is maintained within the specified exhaust pressure range. By this means, black smoke particles can be controllably burned by means of exhaust gas without causing any engine trouble. Since the trap can be regenerated with the ceramic trap assembly left in place in, for example, a construction machine, it is possible to provide a diesel engine smoke reducing apparatus which is superior in both serviceability and durability.

Method of and apparatus for reducing engine smoke emissions

A blade device composed of a support frame mounted on the front end of an earth moving machine, a pair of blade members, whose each inside end is pivotably connected to the center of the front portion of said support frame and a pair of cylinder mechanisms interposed between said pair of blade members and said support frame. A bucket assembly for earthmoving machines which is capable of side dumping as well, and comprises a bucket, a bucket support and a hydraulic cylinder mechanism having a cylinder and a rod and interposed between the bucket and the bucket support. The bucket includes a bucket body, a first receiving portion and a second receiving portion provided at opposite upper side portions of the rear surface of the bucket body, and a first support portion and a second support portion provided at opposite lower side portions of the rear surface of the bucket body and having a first pivot pin and a second pivot pin extending nearly at right angles to the widthwise direction of the bucket body. The bucket support comprises a support body to be mounted on lift arms and tilt links of an earthmoving machine, a first supporting portion and a second supporting portion provided in the support body for receiving the first and second support portions of the bucket respectively from above and supporting them therein. The support further utilizing first and second pivotable hook members movable by power transmission members between operative and inoperative positions. The power transmissions members being pivotably connected selectively at one end to either the second or first receiving portion of the bucket and at the other end to a pivot member mounted on the support body.
