A system and method of using a tool assembly is provided. The system includes a body, a first camera and a second camera fixed to the body, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive data indicative of images of a reference feature from the first camera, determine data indicative of a first spatial position of the first camera based at least in part on the received data indicative of the images of the reference feature, and determine data indicative of a second spatial position of the second camera based on the first spatial position, a known spatial relationship between the first location and the second location, or both. Further, the controller may be configured to receive data indicative of images of a target feature using the second camera, derive dimensions of the target feature based on the images, and generate a three-dimensional representation of the target feature.

System and method of using a tool assembly

A tool stabilization mechanism is disclosed including a stabilizing device connected to a tool and movable between a deployed position and a non-deployed position, and an actuator for actuating the stabilizing device to move between the deployed position and the non-deployed position. In some forms the tool stabilization mechanism is integrated into a borescope unit, while in other forms it may be an accessory attachable to conventional borescope units. Related methods to the above are also disclosed herein.

Tool stabilization mechanism and related methods

A ducted fan engine is deiced using a ground support deicing apparatus having a support structure, a plurality of sonic wave transmitters, an imaging device, and a controller that controls the sonic wave transmitters to emit sonic waves at varying frequencies. A deicing program causes the controller to control (a) providing imaging signals to obtain image data from imaging sensors, (b) receiving image data provided by each of the imaging sensors, and generates images of at least one component part of the engine, (c) detecting a presence or an absence of ice on the at least one component part of the engine, and (d) controlling the plurality of sonic wave transmitters to emit sonic waves in a given frequency range so as to remove the ice from the component part of the engine.

Apparatus for and a method of deicing a ducted fan engine

Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture corresponding to a fan blade with intrinsic damping characteristics are disclosed. An example fan blade comprises an exterior body including a first side and a second side; a first hairpin structure in contact with (a) the first side of the exterior body and (b) the second side of the exterior body; and a second hairpin structure in contact with (a) the first side and (b) the second side, wherein the first hairpin structure corresponds to a first stiffness and the second hairpin structure corresponds to a second stiffness different than the first stiffness.

Fan blade with intrinsic damping characteristics

An airfoil for gas turbine engines is generally provided. The airfoil defines a span extending between a root and a tip, the airfoil further defines a chord at each point along the span extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge. Further, the airfoil includes at least one frangible airfoil portion, a residual airfoil portion adjacent to the at least one frangible airfoil portion, and one or more zones. The one or more zones may include a plurality of cavities, where at least one or more cavities of the plurality of cavities include inclusions, with the inclusions having one or more materials.
