A system () for the identification of the formation of a burning droplet () of a material of a fiber optic cable () during cable burn testing comprises a data processing device () for processing respective image data of a plurality of image samples of an image stream. The data processing device () is configured to execute at least a processing step of preprocessing each of the recorded image samples of the image stream to generate a respective preprocessed image sample for each of the recorded image samples such that areas of the recorded image samples disturbing the identification of burning droplets () are masked out in the respective preprocessed image sample, and a step of identifying a burning droplet () in each of the preprocessed image samples by evaluating a pixel color property of a pixel of each preprocessed image sample.

Identification of droplet formation during cable burn testing

An optical fiber cable comprises a cable core including at least one optical transmission element to transfer light, and a cable jacket surrounding the cable core. The cable jacket is embodied as a multilayered structure having a first sheath layer and at least a second sheath layer being surrounded by the first sheath layer. The material of the first and the second sheath layer is halogen free. The material of the first sheath layer and the material of the second sheath layer have a different flame retardant additive providing different flame retardant mechanisms.

Optical fiber cable with improved fire protection performance

A flame retardant compound is provided. The flame retardant compound includes a polymer base resin, a carbonific host compound, and a guest compound including at least one atom of a transition metal. The carbonific host compound and the guest compound form a host-guest complex, and the host-guest complex acts to inhibit at least one of smoke release and smoke formation when exposed to heat. The host-guest complex is distributed within the polymer base resin. An intumescent flame retardant compound is also provided. The intumescent flame retardant compound includes a base resin, an acid donor, a spumific agent, a cyclodextrin host compound, and a guest compound including at least one atom of molybdenum. The cyclodextrin host compound and the guest compound form a host-guest complex. The acid donor, carbonific host compound, and spumific agent react when exposed to a temperature above 280&#xb0; C. to form a foam.
