According to an aspect, there is provided a structure comprising an absorbing layer for absorbing incident infrared radiation received via a receiving surface of the absorbing layer and a plurality of mushroom-shaped plasmonic elements for enhancing absorption of the incident infrared radiation into the absorbing layer. Said plurality of mushroom-shaped plasmonic elements have sub-wavelength dimensions and sub-wavelength spacings and are arranged along the receiving surface. Each of said plurality of mushroom-shaped plasmonic elements project out relative to the receiving surface.

Infrared absorption and detection enhancement using plasmonics

An absorber structure for a thermal detector, the absorber structure including edges defining a basic form, a plurality of first legs of electrically conducting material joined in an electrically conductive manner to form, between the edges of the absorber structure, a grid having openings, the first legs forming at least one continuous connection between the edges of the absorber structure; and a plurality of second legs of electrically conducting material joined in an electrically conductive manner to the first legs, wherein the second legs protrude from the first legs into the openings of the grid and terminate at points of termination located at a distance from adjacent first legs.

Absorber structure for thermal detectors

A sample plate () and an analyzing method, wherein the sample plate () comprises a substrate (), at least one sensor site () on a first surface () of the substrate () and at least one optical element () on a second surface () of the substrate (). The sample plate () is further provided with a waveguide () on the second surface () for guiding an excitation signal to interact with the at least one sensor site (). The method comprises bringing the sample in contact with at least one sensor site (), exciting the sensor site () in order to obtain an emitted signal, and selectively collecting the emitted signal by means of at least one optical element () and utilizing a supercritical angle fluorescence method; and detecting the collected emitted signals by a detector. In the method, the sensor site () is excited by means of an evanescent field generated by the excitation signal propagating in a waveguide ().

Sample plate and analyzing method

The present invention relates to a micromechanical sensor for analyzing liquid samples and an array of such sensors. The invention also concerns a method for sensing liquid samples and the use of longitudinal bulk acoustic waves for analyzing liquid phase samples micromechanically. The sensor comprises a body and a planar wave guide portion spaced from the body. At least one electro-mechanical transducer element are used for excitation of longitudinal bulk acoustic waves to the wave guide portion in response to electrical actuation and for converting acoustic waves into electrical signals. The wave guide portion is provided with a sample-receiving zone onto which the sample can be introduced. By means of the invention, the sensitivity of micromechanical liquid sensors can be improved.

Micromechanical sensor, sensor array and method
