A method of implanting a prosthetic component using bone density information comprises positioning a bone density reference proximate a patient, obtaining two-dimensional x-ray images of a bone of the patient including the bone density reference, determining a density of the bone from the bone density reference in the two-dimensional x-ray images, superimposing the density of the bone into a three-dimensional mean bone model to generate a patient-specific mean bone model, determining an interface between the bone and the prosthetic component based on bone density information of the patient-specific mean bone model, and implanting the prosthetic component in the bone at the interface. Determining the interface comprises evaluating bone density at the interface to place the prosthetic component, determining bone load threshold at the interface to avoid damaging the bone, and determining hardness for the prosthetic implant at the interface to avoid damaging the bone.

Patient-specific orthopedic implants and procedures using bone density

The augments, systems and methods for supporting acetabular implants described herein can include an augment () for supporting an acetabular shell () having a first portion () of a locking mechanism. The system can also include a shell having a second portion of a locking mechanism (). The first portion of the locking mechanism and the second portion of the locking mechanism can be adapted to move relative to one another from an unlocked state to a locked state to fixedly couple the augment to the shell. In some examples, the augment can be contourable to match the shape of a bone.

Augments, systems and methods for acetabular implants

An alignment plate can comprise a body having an exterior-facing surface and an implant-facing surface, at least one adjustable finger extending in a direction transverse to a plane defined by the body, and at least one patient-engaging surface positioned on the at least one adjustable finger. The adjustable finger can be adjustable to vary the distance between the patient-engaging surface and the implant-facing surface. The patient-engaging surface can be configured to engage a portion of a patient to align the alignment plate relative to the patient in a selected orientation. A method of preparing a surgical plan comprises video capturing a range of motion of an anatomic joint of a patient to obtain a range of motion video, registering the range of motion video to two-dimensional images of a skeleton of the patient, identifying potential impingement and stability issues in the anatomic joint based on the range of motion video, templating a prosthetic implant on two-dimensional images of the anatomic joint using the identified potential impingement and stability issues of the anatomic joint to obtain position and orientation data, and electronically saving the position and orientation data of the prosthetic implant for use with a surgical navigation system. A system for planning and performing a surgical procedure comprises a motion capture system, an x-ray system, an electronic modeling system, and a surgical navigation system.

Method and system for planning and performing arthroplasty procedures using motion-capture data

An alignment plate can be designed and formed based upon a known geometry of a subject, such as a human patient. The alignment plate can include various members, such as a plurality of fingers or legs, to contact the selected points of the anatomy. Based upon contact of the fingers at the selected points of the anatomy, the alignment plate can be aligned at a preselected or predetermined alignment with a portion of the anatomy, such as an acetabulum.

An acetabular prosthesis is described that includes a shell having an outer surface and an inner surface, the outer surface defining an external shape. There is at least one through bore extending from the outer surface of the shell to the inner surface of the shell. At least one augment is configured to be positioned at least partially within the at least one through bore of the shell such that, in an assembled state, the shell and the at least one augment define a modified external shape.

According to various embodiments, a trial system () and instruments can be used to assist in confirming that a planned procedure is achieved. In various embodiments, the trial or provisional portions can include markings () on a trial or provisional portion to compare to one or more implanted members to ensure an planned position is achieved.

Trial prosthesis system

A prosthesis according to the present disclosure includes a shell. A liner is disposed within the shell, and a femoral head may be disposed within the liner. A locking mechanism may assist in securing the liner within the shell. The locking mechanism may be removed when the shell, liner, and femoral head are implanted. The shell extends beyond a hemisphere of the shell, and the liner extends beyond a hemisphere of the liner.

Liner system

Disclosed is an orthopedic implant that includes an anchor, a bore, and a compressible and expandable mesh. The anchor is configured to secure the implant at an implantation site and defines a longitudinal axis. The bore is defined by the anchor and extends along the longitudinal axis. The compressible and expandable mesh is aligned along the longitudinal axis and defines a plurality of openings. The mesh is configured to compress along the longitudinal axis and expand from the longitudinal axis to engage surrounding bone or tissue at the implantation site to secure the implant at the implantation site.

Disclosed is a modular trial system to select a neck length. The system may be in a hexagonal or click embodiments. A neck member may having at least a locating step with a locating step face. A head member may have at least a first groove and a second groove in an internal bore. The head member may be rotated relative to the neck member to select various trial lengths of the neck.

Adjustable modular prosthesis

A prosthesis can have a wall portion that deforms to conform to a surface. The deformation of the wall can be plastic (i.e. permanent) or elastic (i.e. able to return to the pre-deformed configuration). The surface can be an anatomical surface.

Deforming implant-bone interface

An orthopedic device can include an intramedullary nail and an insert telescopically received in the intramedullary nail. The insert includes at least two guiding bores for corresponding bone fasteners that can be locked at an angle to the intramedullary nail. A locking set screw can be coupled to the insert and move the insert to a position that locks the bone fasteners to the nail.

Lockable intramedullary fixation device

An implantation apparatus for preparing adjacent vertebral bodies to receive an intervertebral implant including a plurality of keels. The implantation apparatus includes an elongated handle portion, and a template portion carried at a distal end of the handle portion substantially perpendicularly to the handle portion. The template portion defines a plurality of open channels corresponding in position and shape of the plurality of keels. Each channel is positioned and shaped for preparing a vertebral opening to receive a corresponding keel.
