In one aspect, the systems and methods described herein may include a first device comprising a first ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna. The first device may establish a connection with a second device having a second UWB antenna. The first device may determine an orientation of the first device relative to the second device, according to one or more UWB measurements between the first UWB antenna of the first device and the second UWB antenna of the second device. The first device may receive audio signals corresponding to the second device, and can render the audio signals into audio output to a user of the first device according to the determined orientation.

A system for recording video in a wearable device is provided. The system includes: a barrel to provide mechanical support for one or more components in the system, a camera, disposed inside the barrel, wherein the camera includes a front lens with a field of view pointed to an onlooker outside of the wearable device, a cover glass mounted on the barrel, the cover glass configured to protect the front lens and one or more components in the system, a light emitting device, disposed inside the barrel, and a light pipe configured to receive a light from the light emitting device and to transmit the light through an overlap area on the cover glass and to the onlooker, when the camera is recording a scene outside of the wearable device, within the field of view, wherein the camera field of view comprises at least a portion of the overlap area.

A method for calibrating eye tracking data for a head wearable optical device includes receiving eye tracking data from an imaging device oriented towards a combiner. The method includes determining a gaze direction of an eye of a user based on the eye tracking data. The method includes receiving calibration data from the imaging device that includes an indication of positions of one or more calibration indicators. The method includes determining the gaze direction based at least in part on the calibration data received from the imaging device (or factors adjusted by the calibration data).

The disclosed liquid lens array may include a plurality of independently operable array sections, each of which may include (1) a base layer, (2) an aperture plate overlapping the base layer, the aperture plate defining a plurality of apertures extending through the aperture plate between an inner surface of the aperture plate facing the base layer and an outer surface of the aperture plate, (3) a liquid reservoir disposed between the base layer and the aperture plate, and (4) a side wall at least partially surrounding the liquid reservoir, the side wall extending between the base layer and the aperture plate. An animatronic device includes a mechanical eyeball configured to rotate about a first rotational axis and a second rotational axis that intersect at a fixed center point. A controller is configured to generate eye movement instructions that cause the animatronic device to rotate the mechanical eyeball about at least one of the first rotational axis and the second rotational axis. The eye movement instructions are generated based on an eye tracking system used to track movement of an eye of a user. The controller maps the tracked eye movement to movement of the mechanical eyeball and generates eye movement instructions based on the mapping.

A system can include one or more processors that determine a first position of an object in view of a user of a head mounted display (HMD) and a first gaze direction towards the first position. The object can be detected by one or more sensors. The one or more processors detect that the user is gazing at the object. The disclosed liquid lens array may include a plurality of independently operable array sections, each of which may include (1) a transparent base layer, (2) an aperture plate overlapping the transparent base layer, the aperture plate defining a plurality of apertures extending through the aperture plate between an inner surface of the aperture plate facing the transparent base layer and an outer surface of the aperture plate, and (3) a liquid reservoir disposed between the base layer and the aperture plate. A mechanical eyeball includes an outer housing shaped as an ocular surface configured to rotate about a first rotational axis and a second rotational axis that intersect at a fixed center point. The outer is housing is coupled to a mechanical assembly, and the mechanical assembly is contained within a volume associated with the mechanical eyeball. The mechanical assembly can include a stationary gear train and rotatable components that rotate relative to the gear train. The rotatable components are configured to cause rotation of the outer housing about one or more rotational axes. The volume may be substantially the same volume of a human eye. The mechanical assembly is coupled to one or more drivers configured to actuate rotation of the outer housing.

A disclosed apparatus may include a line source configured to produce a line of light and a scanning device configured to scan the line of light across a scanning field in a scanning direction. The scanning field may include a receiving portion configured to receive an eye. The apparatus may also include a reflector positioned within the scanning field. During a primary period of a scan, the line of light may scan the receiving portion in a primary direction. During a secondary period of the scan, the reflector may reflect the line of light such that a reflection of the line of light scans the receiving portion in a secondary direction. The apparatus may also include a photodetector positioned to receive (1) an initial reflection during the primary period, and (2) a subsequent reflection during the secondary period.
