A finish of a preform and a container formed from the preform. The finish has a brim defining an opening of the finish. The brim is configured to provide a sealing surface with a forming and filling head for forming the container from the preform and filling the container with a product. A support flange extends from an outer side surface of the finish. The support flange includes an undersurface having an inner portion that is directly opposite to the brim. The inner portion of the undersurface of the support flange is closer to an axial center of the finish than an innermost portion of the outer side surface.

Finish of a preform and a container formed from the preform

A system for simultaneously forming a container and filling the container with a product. The system includes a thermoplastic preform and a nozzle. The preform is configured to be molded into the container. The nozzle is for a forming/filling head configured to inject the product into the preform sealed to the nozzle for simultaneously forming the container from the preform and filling the container with the product. Upon insertion of a finish of the preform between an outer flange and an inner flange of the nozzle, the finish seals to the nozzle through cooperation between: a brim of the preform and an upper sealing surface of the nozzle between the outer flange and the inner flange; a sealing ledge of the finish and a lower sealing surface of the inner flange; and an inner sealing sidewall of the finish and an outer sealing surface of the inner flange.

Methods and systems for simultaneously forming and filling a container from a preform with fluid, adjusting a fill point of the fluid, and removing air and/or foam from within the container. One of the methods includes injecting fluid from a fill source into the preform through a nozzle passage defined between the nozzle and a seal pin of the forming and filling system to simultaneously form the container from the preform and fill the container. After the container is formed and filled, the seal pin is actuated to close the nozzle passage and prevent fluid and air from exiting the container through the nozzle passage, thereby trapping fluid and air within the container under pressure. Air, fluid, and/or foam is extracted out from within the container through a passageway defined within a stretch rod to adjust a fill point of the container.

A container including a finish defining an opening at a first end of the container that provides access to an internal volume defined by the container. A base portion of the container includes a diaphragm that is concave relative to an exterior of the container. The diaphragm extends from a standing surface of the container to a center push-up portion of the base portion. The standing surface is at a second end of the container opposite to the first end. The diaphragm is configured to move from an as-blown first configuration to a second configuration in which the diaphragm is closer to the first end as compared to the first configuration in order to reduce residual vacuum within the container. The diaphragm is generally hemispherical in cross-section when in the second configuration.

A container including a finish at a first end of the container defining an opening. A base is at a second end of the container that is opposite to the first end. A shoulder extends from the finish. A body defines an internal volume and extends from the shoulder to the base. A single layer material portion of the container extends from the first end to form at least a portion of the finish. A multi-layer material portion of the container extends from the single layer material portion to the second end of the container and across the base. A transition area is spaced apart from the first end where the single layer material portion transitions to the multi-layer material portion.

A liquid forming and filling system for filling a container with a liquid. The liquid forming and filling system having a motor, a gear box operably coupled to the motor configured to receive a driving output from the motor and outputting a gear box driving force, a linear screw operably coupled to the gear box configured to produce linear movement in response to rotational movement from the gear box, a forming cylinder configured to output pressurized liquid for forming and filling the container, the forming cylinder being in an inverted orientation, a top manifold plate and end cap vent valve assembly coupled to the forming cylinder for receiving the pressurize liquid, and a vent valve operably coupled to the top manifold plate and end cap vent valve assembly configured to vent air entrapped within the pressurized liquid.

A method of inspecting a blow molded container having a finish, a base, a body between the finish and base, and etching at the base. The method includes identifying where on the base the etching is located, designating the base as accurately blow molded if the etching is located at a predetermined location of the base, and designating the base as not accurately blow molded if the etching is not located at the predetermined location of the base.

A controlled release container including a base. The base has a flexible diaphragm movable between a relaxed position and a depressed position. In the depressed position the flexible diaphragm reduces an interior volume of the container to dispense a dosage amount of material stored within the container. The dosage amount directly corresponds to an internal volume of the container displaced by moving the flexible diaphragm to the depressed position.

A method and molding system for hydraulic blow molding of a container from a preform. The method precharges the molding medium within a fill head unit to a precharge pressure. During the injecting of the molding medium into the preform, the method further increases the pressure of the molding medium to a pressure greater than the precharge pressure.

Method and system for molding of a container

A blow molding machine assembly configured to be mounted to a blow molding machine to move a mold base configured to form a container base. The blow molding machine assembly includes an over-stroke cylinder and a counter-stretch rod. The over-stroke cylinder is configured to move the mold base between an extended base position and a retracted base position. The counter-stretch rod is movable between a retracted rod position in which the counter-stretch rod does not extend out from within the mold base, and an extended rod position in which the counter-stretch rod extends out from within the mold base.

A blow-molded container including a finish and a base. The finish defines an opening at a first end of the container that provides access to an internal volume. The base includes a diaphragm and a standing surface. The diaphragm extends radially outward from a central push-up portion. The standing surface of the container is at a second end of the container. In response to an internal vacuum caused by hot-filling and closing the container, the diaphragm is configured to move passively from an as-blown first configuration to a second configuration in which the diaphragm is closer to the first end of the container as compared to the as-blown first configuration. The diaphragm is configured to move from the second configuration to an activated third configuration in which the diaphragm is closer to the first end of the container in response to the diaphragm being externally actuated by a tool.

Method of molding a container

An apparatus and method for forming a plastic container is provided. The method includes disposing a preform into a primary mold cavity and applying pressurized air to urge the preform to conform to the shape of the primary mold cavity to form a primary article. The primary article is then permitted to shrink to a predetermined volume. The method can further include exposing the primary article to an internal vacuum to facilitate shrinking to a predetermined volume. The method further includes disposing the primary article into a second mold cavity and applying pressurized air to urge the primary article to conform to the second mold cavity to form an intermediate article. Finally, at least a portion of the intermediate article is trimmed off to form a final container.

Method of forming a container

A method and system for hydraulic blow molding a container from a preform. A molding medium is injected into the preform from a nozzleduring a first molding stage. In the first molding stage, the molding medium is injected so as to be specifically directed at a closed end of the preform. During the first molding stage, the preform is axially stretched in response to the force exerted on the preform by the molding medium. The molding medium is also injected into the preform during a second molding stage, where the molding medium is injected at a flow rate greater than a flow rate during the first molding stage. During the second molding stage, the preform is radially expanded into the shape of the container.
