A blood collection assembly includes a hub with a distal end, a proximal end, a hub outer surface and an internal opening extending therethrough. The assembly also includes a holder housing defining a receiving chamber and having a rearward end adapted to receive a sample collection tube within the chamber and a forward end including a receiving port extending into the chamber, where the receiving port receives a portion of the proximal end of the hub therein. An internal opening of the hub accommodates a puncturing element at the proximal end thereof for providing passage of a fluid therethrough, and the puncturing element contacts the sample collection tube. The hub and the holder housing include an interengaging structure extending substantially perimetrically therearound for axially locking the hub with the holder housing.

Blood collection assembly

A safety needle assembly has a needle hub and a needle cannula projecting from the hub. Wings project transversely from the hub to facilitate manipulation and positioning of the needle assembly. A shield is hingedly attached to the needle hub and can be rotated from a first position where the needle cannula is exposed to a second position where the needle cannula is shielded. At least one latch may be disposed on the shield for secure locked engagement with the hub, the wings and/or the tubing extending from the hub. A spring may also be provided for propelling the shield into the second position.

Blood collection device

A system and method are provided for providing information on at least one container for storing a biological sample, including: a holder configured to hold at least one biological sample container and a receiver configured to receive information relating to at least one of the container or the biological sample as well as data relating to at least one instruction for printing the information. The system and method further include a printer configured to print the information in accordance with the at least one instruction. In one embodiment, the printer is configured to print the information directly on the container. In another embodiment, the system and method further include an applicator configured to apply a label on the container and the printer is configured to print the information on the label. In another embodiment, the system and method include a detector configured to detect whether the container contains the biological sample and a processor configured to determine the manner for printing the information. In this embodiment, the determination is based, at least in part, on whether container contains the biological sample.

Label processor and method relating thereto

A blood collection assembly includes a needle cannula, a hub mounted on the needle cannula, and a spring biased pivoting shield pivotably mounted to the hub and moveable about a pivot axis between a retracted position and a shielded position encompassing a distal end of the needle cannula. A needle holder is mated at a first end with the hub, and is adapted for receiving a blood collection container such as an evacuated tube through the opposing end. A retaining member is attached to the pivoting shield and is releasably engageable with the hub to maintain the pivoting shield in the retracted position against the spring bias. Insertion of a blood collection tube into the needle holder causes the retaining member to release from engagement with the hub, thereby causing the pivoting shield to move toward the shielded position due to the spring bias.

Safety needle assembly with passive pivoting shield

The present invention is a holder assembly having a holder housing, collar and safety shield. The safety shield is pivotably attached to the collar. The collar is receiving within a recess defined by the annular skirt and needle receiving port of the holder housing. The collar and attached safety shield may thus be rotated about the holder housing and an attached needle assembly, thereby allowing a user to freely position the safety shield during needle insertion and preventing the dislocation of safety shield from the holder housing.

Safety blood collection holder

A fluid collection or infusion set is provided. The set includes flexible tubing with a fitting attached to a proximal end and a needle assembly attached to the distal end. The needle assembly includes a needle hub and a needle cannula secured in the hub. An actuator arm extends proximally and outwardly from the needle hub and has an actuator button at its free end. The needle assembly is disposed in a barrel and can move from a distal position where the needle cannula is exposed to a proximal position where the needle cannula is shielded. A spring is disposed in the barrel for propelling the needle assembly to the proximal position. The barrel includes an actuating aperture that receives the actuator button for locking the spring in a compressed condition. Depression of the actuator button enables the spring to propel the needle assembly into its proximal shielded position.

Retractable needle assembly

The present invention is directed to a container assembly and a method of manufacturing thereof. The container assembly includes an outer tube within an inner tube and a venting pathway extending between the inner surface of the outer tube and the outer surface of the inner tube. The venting pathway includes a combination of a textured surface area and a longitudinal groove for allowing air to vent to atmospheric pressure during insertion of the inner tube within the outer tube.

Container assembly and method for making assembly

The present invention is a label system and method for label alignment and placement on a container. The label system includes a first label or a container whereby the first label includes alignment symbology and a second label having an alignment area corresponding to the alignment symbology of the first label. The second label is positioned on the container whereby the alignment area of the second label is aligned with the alignment symbology of the first label. Visibility enhancement indicia may be provided adjacent the alignment area to increase the visibility of the alignment area to the user. Other indicia may be used to align the container in a holder for bar code scanning.

Label system and method for label alignment and placement

A needle assembly that is adapted for blunting of both an intravenous puncture tip and a non-patient puncture tip is provided. The needle assembly includes a hub having an opening, an intravenous puncture tip, a non-patient puncture tip, a first blunting tip in concentric relation with the intravenous puncture tip, and a second blunting tip in concentric relation with the non-patient puncture tip. An actuator extends through the opening and is in engagement with either the first and second blunting tips or the intravenous puncture tip and the non-patient puncture tip. Activation of the actuator causes blunting of the intravenous puncture tip and the non-patient puncture tip by the first and second blunting tips. The needle assembly is particularly useful in connection with a blood collection system.

Activation of dual blunting needle assembly

A safety needle assembly including a needle with an intravenous puncture tip, a shield in pivotal engagement with respect to the needle, and a hub in the form of a collar providing pivotal engagement between the needle and the shield is provided. The shield is pivotally movable between an unshielded position and a shielded position in which a portion of the shield encompasses the intravenous puncture tip for shielding the needle for safety purposes. The collar and the shield include locking structure providing locking engagement therebetween for locking the shield in the shielded position for preventing pivotal movement to the unshielded position. The collar further includes at least one collar flange extending laterally along a portion of the collar for preventing disengagement of the locking structure.
