Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques relate to improved methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses that support modulation schemes for nonbinary polar coding. For example, the described techniques may enable a transmitting device to perform a modulation of a set of symbols (e.g., bit pairs) that are encoded using a nonbinary polar encoding scheme. For example, the transmitting device may map each symbol of a set of encoded symbols to a constellation point. Additionally, or alternatively, the transmitting device may convert the encoded symbols into strings of bits. The transmitting device may accordingly perform bit-to-constellation mapping of the resulting bitstring using an existing mapping scheme or by defining a new mapping scheme. A receiving device may demodulate a received message by performing a demodulation of the set of modulated symbols or bits (e.g., and by converting the bitstring into the set of information symbols).

Modulation schemes for nonbinary polar coding

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a receiver device may receive encoded symbols, encoded using nonbinary polar coding, that include a set of information symbols, a set of partially frozen symbols, and a set of frozen symbols, where the set of information symbols and the set of partially frozen symbols indicate information bits, and where the set of information symbols indicate values in a set of values, and the set of partially frozen symbols indicate values in a proper subset of the set of values. The receiver device may decode the information bits from the encoded symbols. Numerous other aspects are described.

Nonbinary polar coding with partially frozen symbols

Dynamic frozen polar codes for probabilistic shaping are described. An apparatus is configured to map transmission bits to an EC-polar code. The transmission bits include first data bits, second data bits, EC bits, and shaping bits. The first data bits correspond to frozen bit locations of the EC-polar code, the shaping bits correspond to information bit locations of the EC-polar code, and the EC bits and the second bits both correspond to remaining locations of the EC-polar code. The apparatus is configured to shape the transmission bits to shaped transmission bits based on the mapping, the EC-polar code, and an addition operation on the transmission bits including the EC bits and the second data bits. The apparatus is configured to transmit, to a receiver network device, the shaped transmission bits.

Dynamic frozen polar codes for probabilistic shaping

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some examples, a transmitting device, such as a user equipment (UE) or a network entity, may encode an information bit vector into multiple code blocks using a polar code partitioned into multiple sub-blocks having a same block length in accordance with a polar transformation associated with a modulation scheme. In some examples, each code block of the multiple code blocks may be encoded using a respective sub-block of the multiple sub-blocks. Additionally, the transmitting device may interleave respective bits of each code block of the multiple code blocks using a respective interleaver of multiple interleavers. As such, the transmitting device may transmit the respective interleaved bits of each code block of the multiple code blocks over a respective bit channel of multiple bit channels, where each bit channel of the multiple bit channels is associated with a respective reliability.
