A vehicular seat, such as an aircraft seat, comprising a seat bottom portion, a seat back portion mounted for pivotal movement about a selected pivot axis and having a predetermined upright position, a tray assembly including a tray member and leg means mounted for pivotal movement about the pivot axis from a first storage position to a second in use position, the tray member mounted on the leg means and having a horizontal in use position and a storage position whereat the tray defines the rear surface of the seat back portion, the leg menas having first and second segments joined by a bend having a predetermined angle, and the leg means being selectively configured so that when the tray assembly is in the in use position the bend will be proximate the seat back and one of the segments will be substantially horizontal whereby the tray assembly will not interfere with the lateral leg movement of a user of the tray assembly.

A vehicular seat comprising a seat portion made from a sheet of aluminum or the like, including a first substantially horizontally extending portion at the front of the seat, a second rearwardly declining portion defining the rear portion of the seat, a 'V' shaped channel joining the first and second portions, and a strip of aluminum having a width selected to be wider than the opening of the 'V' shaped channel and secured to the first and second portions along either side of the channel.

A locking assembly for a seat leg of a vehicular seat which is to be releasably secured to a track member having a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings interconnected by slots in the top surface thereof and an internal channel communicating with these openings and slots, comprising a shear pin member selectively configured for substantial mating insertion into one of the spaced track openings, the shear pin member including a flange for engaging the top surface of the track when the shear pin is inserted into one of these openings, pad means selectively configured for insertion into at least one opening of the track member and for longitudinal displacement in the interior channel to a selected position beneath the track slots, control means for displacing the shear pin downwardly when the locking assembly is at the selected position until said shear pin flange engages the top surface of the track and for then displacing the pad means upwardly until the track member is forcefully clamped between the pad means and the flange.

In combination, a track member secured to the floor of a vehicle such as an airplane, the track member having a longitudinally extending slot communicating with an interior channel, a cover member including a top portion and a pair of downwardly projecting ribs having means at the bottom thereof for latchingly engaging the bottom edge of the slot and a vehicular seat which is to be releasably secured to the track member comprising a leg and a locking assembly secured thereto including a pivotally mounted control lever selectively displaceable from an elevated release position to a lowered locking position, the lever, when at the locking position, having a portion projecting upwardly above the track member having a width and height of elevation selected so that the upwardly projecting portion will fit within the volume defined by the top and downwardly projecting ribs of the cover member, the cover member comprising means for containing and concealing from view the upwardly projecting lever portion.

Track fitting for anchoring seats or cargo to a slotted floor track in an aircraft includes a plurality of spaced lobe portions which are adapted to be positioned so as to underlie retaining portions of the track to restrict upward movement of the fitting. Forward movement is restricted by shear pin means positioned so as to engage the track immediately adjacent one of the lobe portions. In a preferred embodiment, the shear pin is slidably movable vertically into and out of engagement with the floor track. An angled slot in the shear pin body is engaged by a pin which is movable fore and aft by rotation of a threaded member to cause the shear pin to be completely removed from the floor track or forced against it so as to pre-load the fitting and prevent it from rattling.

A tilting, adjustable passenger seat back is provided with an angularly adjustable upper headrest section which has tilting linkage and a hinge connection to the upper part of the seat back such that when the back is in a generally upright position, the headrest section is back and out of the way of a passenger's head and shoulders; however, when the seat back is moved to a recline position, the headrest section will rotate forward to provide support for the head while the passenger is in the recline position. A modified construction also has additional linkage which provides for a lumbar support that moves along with recline movement to be primarily effective to adjust seat back cushioning for upright positioning of the seat back and out of the way for the recline position.
