A computer-implemented method for managing memory operations includes reading a first memory page from a storage device responsive to a request for the first memory page. The first memory page is stored to a system memory. Based on a pre-established set of association rules, one or more associated memory pages are identified that are related to the first memory page. The associated memory pages are read from the storage device and compressed to generate corresponding compressed associated memory pages. The compressed associated memory pages are also stored to the system memory to enable memory access to the associated memory pages during processing of the first memory page. The compressed associated memory pages are individually decompressed in response to the particular page being required for use during processing.

Efficient management of computer memory using memory page associations and memory compression

A system and a computer program product manages memory operations in a data processing system. The system includes a processor executing instructions that causes the processor to read a first memory page from a storage device responsive to a request for the first memory page. The first memory page is stored to a system memory. One or more associated memory pages are identified that are related to the first memory page by the set of association rules. The associated memory pages are read from the storage device and compressed to generate a corresponding compressed associated memory page. The compressed associated memory pages are stored to the system memory to enable memory access to the associated memory pages during processing involving the first memory page. The compressed associated memory pages are individually decompressed in response to the particular page being required for use during processing.

Efficient management of computer memory using memory page associations and memory

A computer implemented method optimizes memory page sizes during runtime. A process is identified from a policy file. The policy file contains at least one policy based threshold. A resource usage profiler monitors the process during runtime. The resource usage profiler determines whether the process exceeds the set of stated desired policies from the at least one policy based threshold. If the process exceeds the set of stated desired policies from the set of policy based thresholds, a performance projection for the process is executed to determine whether the process would experience a performance benefit from a different page size. Responsive to determining that the process would experience the performance benefit from the different page size, the page size for the process is changed.
