A child seat mount assembly, a seat for mounting a child seat, and a passenger vehicle having a stowable child seat are provided. A seat back is connected to the body for closing an access opening to a storage compartment and seating an occupant in an upright position, and for opening the access opening in a collapsed position. A child seat mounting plate is connected to the seat back such that the mounting plate and child seat extend into the storage compartment in the upright position of the seat back, and such that the child seat is in a seating position in the collapsed position of the seat back. A method is provided for converting a vehicle seat for receiving and storing a child seat in the storage compartment, and for deploying a child seat in the collapsed position of the seat back.

A storage compartment within an automotive vehicle rear body closure, such as a hatch or trunk, is accessed through a door that serves as a license plate attachment panel. The door may be part of a tub hinged along its lower edge and that occupies the storage compartment when the door is closed.

An improved access and retention system for sedans includes a protective cover for safeguarding a lower peripheral region of a rear cargo region while loading, unloading, and transporting cargo. The protective cover can conveniently and remotely stow within the cargo region. An integral tie-down assembly, exposed by deploying the protective cover, secures cargo loaded in the rear cargo region and cargo placed along the protective cover. The system also includes a double hinging rear closure member which has a rear facing portion which can be locked in open and closed positions. Arranging the rear facing portion in the open position is particularly advantageous for hauling oversized cargo articles which may extend from the rear of the vehicle.

In one embodiment, an automotive vehicle is disclosed having a vehicle body with a first pillar, a second pillar, a roof member and a floor member defining a door opening therebetween. A lateral side entry door is pivotally connected to the vehicle body for enclosing the door opening. The side entry door moves along an operating path having a closed position and an open position. The vehicle has a motor and a lead screw mounted in the side entry door and connected to the motor to be driven by the motor. The vehicle has a link connected to the lead screw and connected to the vehicle body adjacent to the door opening. The motor drives the lead screw to translate the link to open and close the side entry door.

A releasable brake pedal system for a vehicle includes a pedal assembly operatively engageable by the driver of the vehicle and a hydraulic actuator assembly for generating pressurized hydraulic fluid for actuating one or more brakes A- D. The pedal system further includes a pressure release valve or &prime; coupled in fluid communication with the pressurized hydraulic fluid. The pressure release valve or &prime; is operative to reduce the amount of pressure applied to the brakes A- D during a detected vehicle deceleration indicative of a collision event. The pressure release valve is responsive to a deceleration sensor according to one embodiment, and valve &prime; employs a deceleration sensitive inertial mass according to another embodiment. Accordingly, the pedal system reduces forces that may otherwise be transferred to the pedal assembly during a collision.

A releasable brake pedal system for a vehicle includes a pedal assembly operatively engageable by the driver of the vehicle and a hydraulic actuator assembly for generating pressurized hydraulic fluid for actuating one or more brakes A- D. A sunroof assembly (20) of an automotive vehicle employs dual sunroof panes, a pair of movable sunshades and a control system for operating the function thereof. In one aspect of the present invention, a sunroof assembly provides a substantially transparent front pane (22) which is slidable from a covering position to a retracted position and a substantially transparent rear pane (24) movable from a covering position to an open position. In another aspect of the present invention, a sunroof assembly (20) provides a pair of substantially transparent panes in combination with a front sunshade (26) and a rear sunshade (28). The sunshades are movable from a functional position to a stowed position. In a further aspect of the present invention, a control system (32) provides an electric switch assembly (30), electrical circuit and software for operating the panes and sunshades.
