The surfactant of this invention is a compound of general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl group containing 6 to 18 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl group containing 6 to 18 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 is a hydrogen atom or a propenyl group; A is an unsubstituted or substituted alkylene group of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; n is an integer of 1 to 200; M means an alkali metal, an ammonium ion or an alkanolamine residue.

Surfactant

The surfactant of this invention is a compound of general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl group containing 6 to 18 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl group containing 6 to 18 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 is a hydrogen atom or a propenyl group; A is an alkylene group of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; n is an integer of 1 to 200.

A composite, molded article is prepared by forming a W/O emulsion containing a vinyl monomer, water, a cement, a polymerization initiator and an emulsifier, followed by molding and hardening. A process for forming a gel by gelling an aqueous solution of a water-soluble polymer with a chromium compound as a gelling agent, in which a copolymer of acrylamide, 0.5 to 40% by mole of an unsaturated sulfonic acid or its salt, and optionally an unsaturated carboxylic acid or its salt having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 10 in 1N-NaNO.sub.3 at 30.degree. C., is used as the water-soluble polymer, and which is availably applied to improvement of water-oil ratio in oil production and to civil engineering for preventing leakage of underground water.
