Method for simultaneously preventing pink bollworm and American bollworm, the method including at least: a step in which cotton seedlings are planted in a field 21-41 days after the date of occurrence of the adult stage of the pink bollworm in the case of the first generation, and 1-29 days after the date of occurrence of the adult stage in the case of second and subsequent generations; and a step in which an extended-release pheromone preparation including at least Z,Z/Z,E-7,11-hexadecadienyl acetate, which is a sexual pheromone substance for pink bollworm, and Z-11-hexadecenal, which is a sexual pheromone substance for American bollworm, is implanted in the field 2-15 days before the expected date of occurrence of the adult stage of the next generation of pink bollworm, the expected date derived from the effective integrated temperature, and the sexual pheromone substances in the extended-release pheromone preparation are released in the field.

Method for simultaneously preventing pink bollworm and American bollworm

Provided is a pink bollworm control method that controls pink bollworms by using a mating disruption method to disturb the mating of the pink bollworms. The method including at least: a step in which cotton seedlings are planted in a field 21-41 days after the appearance of adult pink bollworms if said adult pink bollworms are a first generation, or 1-21 days after the appearance of adult pink bollworms if said adult pink bollworms are a second or later generation; and a step in which a controlled-released sexual pheromone formulation including at least Z,Z/Z,E-7,11-hexadecadienyl acetate, which is a pink bollworm sexual pheromone substance, is placed in the field 2-15 days before the predicted adult appearance date for the next generation of adults of said pink bollworms, as derived from effective accumulated temperature, and the sexual pheromone substance in the controlled-release sexual pheromone formulation is released in the field.

Provided also is a pest control method for using the sex pheromone sustained release dispenser.

When a communication disruptant containing (Z)-11-tetradecen-1-yl acetate as the only active ingredient is continually used for a period of 5 to 10 years, a phenomenon has been observed in which its communication-disrupting effect on insect pests, particularly of the family Tortricidae, living in the field or the like through successive generations is reduced. Accordingly, it is eagerly desired to develop a new communication disruptant which is also effective for such fields where the communication-disrupting effect (on insect pests, particularly of the family Tortricidae, living there through successive generations) has been reduced. The present invention provides, for use in the control of insect pests having (Z)-11-tetradecen-1-yl acetate contained in their sex pheromone, a communication disruptant containing (Z)-11-tetradecen-1-yl acetate and the maximum component in the composition of the sex pheromone excepting (Z)-11-tetradecen-1-yl acetate, wherein the weight percentage of the maximum component in the communication disruptant is equal to a value obtained by multiplying the weight percentage of the maximum component in the sex pheromone by a number in the range of 2/100 to 50/100.

A method for controlling an injurious insect is herein disclosed, which comprises disturbing the copulative communication of an injurious insect to prevent proliferation of the insect by distributing a source of the sex pheromone thereof over a field to be controlled to make the sex pheromone release from the source distributed in the field, wherein a source of the sex pheromone having a high effective component-release rate per unit time is distributed over the central region of the field at a low density while a source of the sex pheromone having a low effective component-release rate per unit time is distributed over the peripheral region of the field at a high density. A sex pheromone-release agent having an effective component-release rate ranging from 0.01 to 2 g/day may be distributed over the central region of the field at a density ranging from 1 to 50 locations/ha, while a sex pheromone-release rope having an effective component-release rate ranging from 5 to 250 mg/m/day may be substantially uniformly stretched around the peripheral region of the field at a density ranging from 10 to 150 m/ha.

Herein disclosed is a sustained release dispenser capable of uniformly releasing a volatile liquid ingredient over a long time period even when the amount of the liquid ingredient remaining in a container is reduced. According to an embodiment, the sustained release dispenser comprises a plastic container 4 having a liquid and volatile ingredient-permeable outer layer 1 and a liquid-absorbable inner layer 3 having the same material as those of the outer layer 1 and a liquid and volatile ingredient 2 enclosed in the plastic container.
