A self-venting spool valve assembly includes a novel mechanism for retention of a rotatable spool within a longitudinally disposed valve body. The spool contains first and second flanges at opposed ends thereof, wherein the first flange is adapted to bear against the longitudinal body of the valve assembly. The second flange, however, is spaced from the valve body by a groove, and a biasing retainer is disposed within the groove for frictional engagement between the second flange and the valve body in order to sealingly retain the spool within the valve body. In the preferred form, the spool and associated bore are tapered, and contain fluid drain and air vent apertures for selective communication with fluid drain and air vent passages extending through the longitudinal body of the valve assembly.

Self-venting spool valve assembly

A filter device comprising a cannister container of impervious material having therewithin a pleated filter with at least one of the side edges of each of the individual pleats being sealed. Appropriate inlet/outlet structure is provided with the cannister body, as well as an appropriate support base for holding same. In one embodiment, the pleated filter material has both side edges of the individual pleats sealed and large spaced flow passageways between the respective edges are provided by a plurality of seals between the edges. Another embodiment has only one side edge of the individual pleats sealed with the other side edge being open for collectively sealing same by the structure of the cannister body itself. In this embodiment, a larger plurality of fluid flow passageways are provided by multiple sealed portions between the respective side edges of the individual pleats. After the pleated material is formed and sealed, the overall structure is formed in the shape of a torus for appropriate mounting in one of the various cannisters.

Filter body having closely adjacent filter material

An air filter for filtering particulate matter from air flowing therethrough to a point of use requiring clean air, includes an imperforate front wall, a perforate back wall and opposite, imperforate side walls. The front wall is smaller in height than the back wall and a pair of pleated filter elements extend from the top of the front wall to the top of the back wall and from the bottom of the front wall to the bottom of the back wall, respectively, defining a wedge-shaped outlet space between the filter elements extending from the front wall to the back wall and being larger toward the back wall. A plurality of the filters are adapted to be stacked one on top of the other to define a plurality of inlet spaces therebetween and a plurality of outlet spaces. Reinforcing members are interposed between the filter elements in each filter, whereby the filter is enabled to support the weight of a man thereon. The filter is thus simple and rugged in construction and provides a large filtration area in a minimum amount of space.

Dual element air filter

A universal filter mounting attachment for engine oil filters comprises a base having valved apertures therethrough and a threaded member selected for connection to a cooperating threaded member on a particular engine. The base carries a latch which cooperates with corresponding structure on the filter to latch the filter to the base and thus to the engine for circulation through the filter of oil from the engine. The base is normally left attached to the engine and the filter is unlatched therefrom for replacement or the like. The latch and the cooperating structure on the filter are designed such that filters may be manufactured in a single configuration and attached to all engines.

Universal filter mounting attachment

A filter for use with different size attaching structures includes multiple attachment members individually and independently cooperable with different ones of the different size attaching structures, whereby a single filter configuration may be manufactured and stocked for desired use with any one of the different size attaching structures.
