A multifunctional recessed lighting fixture which offers a unique combination of modular parts and unit components which can be assembled in a plurality of possible variations resulting in distinctive appearance of the variants assembled, yet maintaining an appearance of continuity among the recessed lights.

An improved optics, recessed lighting fixture specially designed for easy installation into sloped ceilings is described. The improved optics are provided by a novel asymmetrical dome reflector which adapts the fixture to sloped ceilings for directing reflected light to within the natural cone of illumination emitted by a lamp in the absence of a reflector.

A lighting fixture having a simplified structure is provided with such benefits as a junction box attached either permanently or releasably to the housing, a full reflector for improved optics, and support means for installation in different ceiling structures. The reflector is positionable within the housing, whereby inexact or inaccurate mounting of the housing to the ceiling structure can be corrected by changing the orientation of the reflector. Also provided are novel junction boxes. In various embodiments, the junction box may contain an L-shaped door, to cover an L-shaped opening which allows the interior of the junction box to be inspected from the bottom after installation. Another embodiment of junction box includes side walls flexibly joined to permit installation and removal of the junction box. Preferably, this latter embodiment is installed in a fixture through the bottom opening through which the reflector, socket, bulb, and the like are installed.

Recessed lighting fixture

A lighting fixture having a simplified structure is provided with such benefits as a junction box attached directly to the housing, a full reflector for improved optics, and support means for installation in different ceiling structures. A bulb or lamp is disposed in a socket which is attached to the reflector such that the lamp is disposed entirely within the volume of the reflector. Additionally, the reflector is positionable within the housing, whereby inexact or inaccurate mounting of the housing to the ceiling structure can be corrected by changing the orientation of the reflector. Accordingly, lighting of the environment is not compromised by imprecise mounting of the housing and can be redressed by positioning the reflector as required. The invention also allows the fixture to be moved easily along the support bars connected to the joists even after the bars have been connected.

A self locking mounting bar having a notch near one end, which notch fits onto the upper edge of a main runner of a suspended ceiling. The other end of the bar slides into one end of a lighting fixture frame. The bars are generally used in pairs to provide an adjustable mounting apparatus for recessed lighting fixtures; a pair of bars mounted at the same end of the fixture frame, but on opposite sides thereof, may slide toward or away from each other to accomodate variable ceiling runner spacings. Preferably, two pairs of self locking adjustable mounting bars are used to mount a fixture, one pair at each end of the fixture frame. The bar is mounted by placing the notched portion of the bar onto the upper edge of a ceiling runner. The bar then may be locked in place by bending a tab at the end thereof underneath the upper edge of the runner.

An adjustable mounting frame, and a kit including this frame, for mounting recessed lighting fixtures, and a method therefor. The mounting frame includes a mounting ring and spring members which can hold a lighting fixture trim in place. In addition to the mounting frame, the kit may also include fastening means for mounting the frame onto the ceiling, a junction box, an electrical conduit and/or a socket cup. The mounting method generally involves the steps of installing the mounting frame in the ceiling, and mounting the trim in the frame by inserting the trim into the spring members.

A recessed incandescent ceiling light fixture is provided with a heat sensing device for interrupting current flow to an incandescent bulb mounted in the fixture. The top wall of the fixture is encompassed within a cover member which is spaced from the top wall, the cover member including a depending skirt which outwardly laps the sidewalls of the fixture and defines a circumferential slot between the fixture walls and cover member. A heat sensor is mounted on the surface of the cover member in the area between the top wall of the housing and cover member. The cover member is mounted to the housing at spaced points whereby heat transfer from the housing to the cover member is minimized.

A connector mechanism for linking the ends of successive fluorescent fixtures includes a pair of plates defining the ends of the fixtures, one said plate including a projecting hook portion which extends through the other said plate. The hook poriton includes a cam surface inclined toward the first plate, the second plate including a slide having a locking shoulder positioned to engage the cam surface. A threaded connection to the slide enables the slide to be drawn along the cam surface and accordingly to clamp the end plates tightly against each other.

An aligning and joining mechanism for coupling and forcing the abutting ends of fluorescent luminaires into intimate engagement comprises a spanning member extending from one luminaire slidably into a receiver on the other luminaire. The spanner member includes a cam surface disposed adjacent a threaded component on the receiver. When the threaded component is driven against the cam portion, the inclination of the cam causes the abutting ends of the luminaires to be tightly compressed one against the other.

The present invention relates to a lighting fixture adapted to be mounted directly to the ceiling of a room or the like. A characterizing feature of the invention lies in the provision of a frame structure adapted to seat against the upper surface of the ceiling, the frame structure including means in the nature of clips which are shiftable radially into complementary guideways formed in the frame, the clips in the course of such outward radial movement including tangs which embed themselves in the ceiling structure proper to securely mount the fixture at a desired position in the ceiling.

The present invention is directed to a universal ceiling lighting fixture and more particularly is directed to a lighting fixture adapted to be mounted above a ceiling made of gypsum board, acoustical tile or the like, the fixture being characterized by its ability to support reflectors of a variety of diameters. More particularly, the fixture includes novel mounting means which extend over the reflector receiving aperture, the mounting means being adjustable in accordance with the diameter of the reflector intended to be used with the fixture.

The present invention relates to an attachment clamp adapted to be mounted to a ceiling, such as a dry wall or acoustical tile ceiling, for structurally supporting a lighting fixture to the ceiling. The attachment clamp, which is formed of an integral resilient metal blank and a threaded adjustment member includes a foot portion adapted to be braced against the upper surface of the ceiling and a locking finger adapted to underlie the ceiling in spaced parallel relation to the foot portion, the threaded adjustment member being operable variably to space the foot and finger to clamp a thickness of ceiling between the two noted components.

The present invention is directed to a lighting fixture mount, and more particularly to a heat dissipating or distributing lighting fixture mount which minimizes the transfer of heat generated by an incandescent bulb or the like in the fixture to the junction box providing the electrical power therefor, and most particularly to the screws which fasten the fixture to the junction box and consequently are exposed within the box to possible contact with the insulation of wires within the box. By preventing overheating of the support screws, the possibility of damaging the insulation and creating a short circuit is minimized.

The present invention is directed to an improved recessed lighting fixture for flush mounting in a hung ceiling structure or the like. The fixture is characterized by its ability to be securely anchored in position, yet be readily removed from a position below the ceiling for the changing of bulbs, replacement of electrical connections, etc. The apparatus includes a frame permanently mounted above the ceiling, installation of the reflector and attached light source components being effected by simple vertical movement of the reflector assembly. Removal of the reflector assembly from the frame is accomplished by a relative rotation of the reflector and frame.
