A method comprises using a first directional transceiver (A) to determine a first angle (&#x3b1;) between a first vector (V) from the first directional transceiver to a second directional transceiver (B) and a second vector (V) from the first directional transceiver to a third directional transceiver (C), using the second directional transceiver to determine a second angle (&#x3b1;) between a third vector (V) from the second directional transceiver to the first directional transceiver and a fourth vector (V) from the second directional transceiver to the third directional transceiver, calculating a location, relative to a local coordinate system, of the third directional transceiver using the first and second angles and locations in the local coordinate system of the first and second directional transceivers, the local coordinate system being defined relative to the locations of the first, second, and third directional transceivers, and calculating an orientation relative to the local coordinate system of the first directional transceiver using directions of the first and second vectors relative to the first directional transceiver and the locations in the local coordinate system of the first, second and third directional transceivers.

Otherwise, the directional transceiver () may forward the measured characteristics to a buffer (). If determined to be known, the transmitting apparatus () may include the calculator identifier information in the signal () for positioning. Otherwise, the other apparatus may transmit the signal () for positioning without any calculator identifier information.

System and methods for direction finding using a handheld device

The performance may be improved through device management, and may include the collection of information from one or more sensors installed within the WCD. The sensor information may initially be used to determine an appropriate configuration for the device.
